    I'm not sure whether these are the right categories, but it's clear that tennis is a game of counters, and having a grid of interpretation that's approximate beats having none hands down.

    given you previous explanation of the big 3 dominant styles, why do you think djokovic came out on top in his 1-1 with federer? it look like fed should have had a great advantage novak

      There are many more concepts to stack before discussing the "meta" of today's game but almost no player, unless insanely skilled as Federer, can even stay on tour with dive as a predominant play style. Since 2000, the players have struck the ball increasingly harder yet the average shot per rally at grand slams went up dramatically with the hard courts just above and grass close to par with clay. Since dive has never won on clay, even the players with the dive skills today only use dive as a secondary style.
