• Just Whisky: Re-review...
With the same ABV, the extra years in the oak may have picked up some extra "spice" notes. The "burn" could be from the wood like some that have a ginger note. I just saw the 2020 and debate whether to try it, and sipped on a 2019 and tonight and it made my eyes water. Not sure why my mouth was extra sensitive tonight, but I really picked up the bite. I wonder if the ageing pallett can be a bit more numb some days. Thanks for the review--cheers!
My 2020 was the June bottling. Others could be different??
Check out my re-review of these 2 from last week
I have the 2020 version too, and i can agree that i'd also pick it over the 2019. The 2020 was tastier and smoother straight from the get go.
I had a 2016 18 yr old, and the nose was super gentle. I believe as they neared the 2020 they became less attractive to the drinkers. I still own one 2016, and now a 2019. As far as price. I bought one around $115 online, and then $140.
That’s online prices. Locally they go for $220!!
Great comparison. Does a little water change either of these?
I plan on Re- reviewing both of these... with and without water...now that they’ve had more time to “ open up”
John, I've heard some say they prefer the 15 to the 18. Agree or disagree?
Heard that as well however I have not tried it....
I had the old 15 and the 18. They are both similar but the 18 has a bit more complexity and more of the dusty cocoa and coffee taste . The 15 is just a blast ! Although it needs time to rest in the glass after pouring. Ironically when I mixed both at equal amounts, the 18 dominated the taste. In retrospect I’d prefer the old 15 for it’s more robust flavor. It’s a beast.
Btw. The 15 yr old I had was a 2013 bottle. The 18 year old I had along side it was a 2016 bottle , for those who want to know.
@@SaltyCuban great info! Thanks for sharing
@@justwhisky My pleasure. I can relate with you btw on your comment about not having anyone around you that shares your enthusiasm for scotch whisky. All these guys online seem to have lots of people outside of RUclips that share in their hobby. I do not. Not that I don’t have friends that drink. They just wouldn’t know a sherry scotch from a bourbon cask. Much less collect any bottles. Anyhow I subscribed. Cheers.
@@SaltyCuban thanks for subscribing. Sounds like we’re in the same boat... or as Willie Nelson sings... Whiskey River take me home...
Greetings from London thanks for your opinion not a sherry finish fan myself but buying a birthday present for one . could only get the 2020 release he enjoyed the macallen Sherry cask so wondered if you had tried it any thoughts appreciated
Not much significant difference but I think the 2020 is more enjoyable... having said that I would recommend the Glenallachie 10 yrcask strength batch 3 or 4 over the Glendronach... and better value as well... or the Glenallachie 12
I have not tried the Macallen. Sorry if I got confused there... I was referring to the 2019 vs 2020 Glendronachs
These whisky’ are not ‘finished’ in sherry. They have been matured for all 18 years in sherry casks.
@@drambler4756 yes... a blooper on my part as I don’t edit... always one take live.
@@drambler4756 thanks my brother in law loved it and I could definitely tell the difference between finished and matured
2019 has 24 yo whisky in the bottle 2020 has 18 yo,the oxidation helps a lot in every Glendronach i tried, can you do a review in a few weeks?
I did a Re-review of this recently with link in description.
You choose interesting topics
Thanks for the support bro!
thanks for your share
Try both again in 3 months after bottle been opened, the 2019 will be much better.
@Maester Gryphon I can't tell you which will get better, but a bit of oxidization opens up the smell and changes the whiskies.
I believe the distillery reopened in May 2002 so depending on the bottle code on your 2020 bottle, it might be possible it is 24 year old whisky, just a thought since the colour is nearly identical
Wasn’t aware there could be different codes/releases for the 2020 bottles.
@@justwhisky just check the laser etched code in the glass near the bottom edge, my 2019 bottle is 2019/10/16
@@MadScientist7 yes I am aware of that hence my review is specific to the 2019 release vs 2020 release... I thought you were saying there are multiple codes/ batches per specific year.
The 2019 supposedly has 24 yr juice as opposed to 2020 which is just 18 yr.
@@justwhisky yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying, there are multiple batches per year, you may have an early 2020 release that still has the older juice
@@MadScientist7 thanks for the info! Interesting
