- This video begins alongside the canal at Lock Street, then onto Wolverhampton Station, and finally a short clip of a derelict Wolverhampton
Low Level Station where main line through services ceased in 1967 a wonderful place which holds so many fond memories from my firing days at Stafford Road and Oxley Sheds.
Enjoy.
Just watched and enjoyed your videos. I worked at New Street 1989-2001 and they bring back memories of proper locos and rolling stock. I made countless trips between New Street/Wolves/Stafford during those years.
I was a shunter at Wolves High Level during the time this video was made. The guy "hooking on" at 13.03 mins is Billy I. I won't give his full name, unless he's still around to give me the nod. Good guy and a brilliant shunter.
Great vid thanks. The short time of Crewe ICDA sector 47/4's on the Shrewsburys, the last remaining pool of inter-city diesels without long-range conversion (47/8) until 1991 i think! 47456, 47471 and 47555 seen here, splendid memories cheers :D
Thanks for taking the time to view and comment much appreciated. Regards...Bill
Many thanks for looking, glad you enjoyed watching, unfortunately the days seeing proper loco's on a daily basis have almost gone, we are now stuck with units galore, Voyagers, and Pendolino's, giving us very little variety. It's also nice to think that this video bought back some nice memories for you, cheers...Bill
Jamie once again thanks for your kind words, and for looking, much appreciated, cheers...Bill
@001ttg Dave thanks again for your comment glad you enjoyed watching.Cheers...Bill
The last decade of real trains and locos.
Watching this makes me feel so old :(. I seem to have emerged from a sort of coma after missing at least 10 years of my life; I thought the date of this was wrong but....my true bus nut ear heard the roar of a DAF DKDL11 engine as fitted to WM Travel single decker leyland Nationals of that era. 2 and a bit years shy of 30 since this was filmed; daunting.
Francis, many thanks for taking the time to view and comment, much appreciated. And yes definitely filmed in 1990 I hadn't long bought this particular video camera and use to use it most days to begin with. Regards...Bill
Hello Javier, I believe the 47 hauled train you mention with the DVT at the rear, was in fact a Euston to Shrewsbury Service, unfortunately this through service from London no longer runs, cheers...Bill
Many diesel Loco's worked in and out of Wolverhampton on various services even though Wolverhampton was electrified during the mid 60s, cheers...Bill
@jazzyjaxroadshow Thanks for your comment,I wish I did have a timetable for that period.Cheers...Bill
@doodlecheesebug2 Yes you are right Richard, regarding the 47s, they were serviced at Bescot, stabled at Wolverhampton to work to Shrewsbury and back on the Euston Shrewsbury service. Thanks for your comment...Bill
Bescot aswell blimey! I seem to remember the IC 47's serviced at Saltley depot in 1990 :)
Yes i just seen a clip from '90 with 47586 ICDA CD on Bescot depot haha!
@beanyzxr Thanks for your comment, I was unable to reply earlier as the reply button on RUclips was not working. Cheers...Bill
Hello Javier, I know Virgin run an hourly service to London Euston, 45 minutes past the hour and Cross Country run an hourly service to Manchester 15 minutes past the hour, I have travelled on both and other Cross Country services to the South and South West, I live in Wolverhampton and know all the services that run from there, cheers...Bill
@howarth004
