  • BRITISH RAILWAYS IN THE 1980's
BESCOT STATION on 18th December 1987
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of Nescot taken on 18/12/1987. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. Many thanks for all subscriptions and all of those viewers who have kindly shown an interest in my material.

I live in USA, have done since 1995. Very impressed how uk rail travel has improved over the years especially compared to Amtrak Garbage.USA freight trains are very impressive though.

Bescot was still a cracking place in the 90s. The old Albright & Wilson green tanks were stored there.

Can't thank you enough for these videos you are putting out. I did my detonator training for BR at Bescot yard around this time, and this brought back memories of just how busy Bescot was. Enjoyed seeing the old 304's plying their trade on the Waslall services. I grew up in Coventry, so would be particularly interested if you have anything from there.....

Bescot station looks like a good vantage point, but a miserable place if you're a passenger waiting for a train.
Love your videos, the era I grew up in train spotting. You certainly got around. Great that you filmed what in those days to many was just the mundane day to day rail movements, but which we now look back on with nostalgia and fond memories. If only there was that variety of traffic and traction around today.

Many thanks for this, loved this video! - brought back some great memories. Being in the NorthWest I used love a trip to Bescot, it never disappointed, always plenty of movement. The 304 brought it all back! proper little work horses with their bouncy seats and nightmare door handles!! The pulling power of Bescot for us though were the 58's. Many thanks

I used to love chilling at Bescot on a Sunday afternoon in the late 90s after visiting the Sunday Market across the road, it was cool to see the InterCity trains pass through.

Such a nostalgic trip back in time when the railways were full of proper engines and rolling stock with the likes of 47s,58s,86s etc unlike today's railways no beauty o glamour always my favourite livery blue and grey rolling stock and all over blue engines

The background thrum of choppers with the dink donk, dink donk, dink donk of a passing MGR hopper train takes me back to my childhood. Thanks for these films.

I'm guessing the 85 was pulling some kind of ECS working with the GUV and BG in the middle of the train?

i would have money on it being ECS to Oxley. Most used to leave from the north end of BNS and then swing a right at soho junction, you would see quite a few ECS going through bescot back in the day as Oxley was always busy

Bescot was best place to see Class 58s in the 1980s... They also had a lot of 40,44,45 and 46s stabled on the back roads awaiting scrapping.... I used to catch the Class 304 and 310s every day between Walsall-Birminghan.
