I almost hung myself. School was crap. Home was crap. I always heard negative comments growing up. I'm 34. I came out at 28 ish. Took 2 bottles of wine on the second attempt. I finally attended Pride for the first time last June. I finally got my first Pride flag that I proudly display outside of my house.

MissV, Because people are stupid. If the whole world were heterosexual, stupid people would STILL rise up and hate and bash whatever else. There is no end.
Also, gay hate/bashing mainly comes from the very ignorant and very religious. (stupid people)

God bless you all for this. When one of you described what he would wish some one would have said to him when he wasfourteen year old, I actually burst into tears and sobbed. I was one of those fourteen year olds who never heard those words. I was one of those who did try to end it all. No one ever told me those words. Thank God the world is so different today.

My nine year old son is 100% certain he is gay. I told him ...okay and?!? I told him NOT to even THINK that he needs to worry about who he is because HE is a perfects human being. I am SO thankful for people like Google to put such a positive message on the Internet to PROVE to children that labels do not matter...my son could be 1/2 Martian and I would not think any differently and he knows this. I want the HOLE entire population to be happy with themselves. I am bipolar but I refuse to label myself because everyone is their own person. If somebody doesn't like my "crazy" then whatever. My nine year old says he is gay and I told him... I'm why do you feel the need to label yourself because anyone who loves you doesn't care who you are... I told him that I was literally crazy and he told me "no you aren't mommy!" And I said "see in just labeling myself!!" I'm an unwed Asian female with mental problems...but I normally don't tell everyone that...I informed my sweet sweet child if he acts like he is different then he is labeling himself as I could and being "gay" does not define him (like being bipolar does NOT define me) being his BADASS true self defines him And I want him to have 200% confidence about who he is. Thank you all again for showing children that thy need to have confidence and a high self esteem because they are worth it. I wish someone could have told me the same thing!!!!! You are amazing and so is this message. I can't help but to say "I loves U!!!" Please make a suicide agreement parents. Because a seminar taught me that if a promise is In writing then a teen or child is more likely to keep their word. I was 17 when I signed an agreement that I promised I wouldn't commit suicide and though I sometimes think that my life isn't worth anything, I remember the promissory note I made my family that I would never take my own life ......I hope my gibberish make sense u love u all!!!!!

      I actually disliked it.
I think it gets better from the straight community , though straight people today are becoming far more tolerant and open about gays today than gays are about gays (except for Lesbians who prove one more time that women are smarter) .
It will get better when you grow up and then if you want a love life or a sex life or even a social life, you will start getting into the scenes (whether it is the real one , bars and clubs and gay associations, or the internet one) and then it'll get worse . The discrimination within the gay so called community is far worse and far more brutal . Whether you're ethnic, or regarding your body type, your age, your wealth, your social background and status , who you know and what circles you're in, even your religious beliefs .
I think when you're a white , young, handsome, rich, fit, masculine guy, things not only get better , they get great .
If you're fat or skinny, ugly, ethnic , with not much money to your name , effeminate (and not interested in drag), things get , well things get a bit like "out of the frying pan and into the fire".
Today's statistics show that there are far more gays attempting suicide from rejection by the gay so called fucking community than there are gay attempting to it due to rejection from the so called straight world .
I was lucky growing up , things were never really bad . I knew how to fight and needed half a reason so nobody tried to come for me about my sexuality , i come from a rather wealthy family but importantly i was raised by smart parents who couldn't careless if i was gay as long as i was not going to turn into a utter dick or asshole (you are what you eat) . I am also Scandinavian and was never really called ugly by anyone so i had it easy before and after i came out of Narnia .
But my husband is Japanese , and before him i was in a long relationship with a great guy from the Middle East and before him with a fabulous black drag queen who taught me everything there is to know to stay alive and navigate that jungle that is the gay so fucking called community . And they all had different story . It didn't get better for them . It got harder , they were already exhausted facing prejudice from their family, their so called friends, their school , their country even for being gay and black, gay and asian, gay and fem or a queen , gay and and Arab or muslim and now they had to face discrimination from within the gay world for everything else beside being gay . They had to fight even harder , and still have to , for some of them .
I think for some gay people , it has to get better twice , and the second time is so much harder than the first . Being a minority that is look down at within the gay community is far more vicious and painful than being a minority outside this community . Because being rejected by a community you try to belong in, is far more cruel than being rejected by a community you don't really want to be a member of .
If you have 30 minutes to spare in your life do this simple test . Get the picture of a fit white man , then a picture of a skinny or fat one and create a profile for each of them on a dating or fucking gay site and see how many hits they get . Now open three more profiles with an average looking black guy, an asian one and a middle eastern one (choose a name like Mohammad) , and another account with a drag photo in the profile and check out how many hits your get within the first hour and then within a week . Except in real life these are not made up profiles, these are real people , So try to put yourself in the shoes of the ones who get 3 hits in a week and twenty hate comments , and then i dare you to tell those people that it gets better .
Nice video but i think it lacks a bit of accuracy . It doesn't get better for everyone , for some it gets worse . And all the guys who work at google seem to be a little too attractive to really be an exhaustive panel of candidates to really tell how it really gets .
So no kids, it only gets better if you are smart and toughen up , get thick skinned , and more importantly pick up the crowd or tribe you really belong with, the one that really appreciates you for who and what you are and doesn't judge you with just one look and leaves you on the bench . You don't have to become a Ken doll and if you have half a brain and don't suffer from Stockholm syndrome , you shouldn't want to belong to a clique that looks down at you . Find your own tribe and if you can't find it , create your own, that's how it gets better (regardless of the gay or straight community, it works with both ).

It does get better. I was beaten up in middle school almost every day. Kept me up throughout my middle school years. Things started to get better in high school. As a teenager, I tried to hang myself on my living room chandelier but was interceded by a visitor. Do not despair, the boat is filled to the brim with gay teenagers. I am now a lecturer and library celebrity. If you are thinking of a way out, don't do it, there's a beautiful horizon waiting for you filled with joy and success. You are just five minutes from the miracle.

Commenters of the world! Please! Let's keep our mouths CLOSED if we don't know what we are talking about! Being gay is nothing abnormal, or terrible, or a sin. I believe it is just the way some people were born. And I prefer these people, who unite us in differences, than bigoted and homophobic idiots with nothing to say but actual crap. Stop this! There are still people out there committing suicide, and if you think that is funny, or the right thing, and you feel liberated from these "horrible sinners", you are no humans, but cold machines with no heart and feelings. We are still talking about human beings! And to he "pro" commenters, I think the Gay community is thanking you right now for how you defend them... US. But stop feeding the trolls. It is not worth it. Don't lose your time, they will just continue attacking. So please. Let them stay in their own shady dark corner with their thoughts of: "We are right!"

Being gay is no different than being left-handed, or having red hair, or green eyes, or being very tall or quite short. We're all different, yet we're all the same. Let's work at accepting one another and getting along, rather than fearing one another.

Google should explain it's hypocrisy in posting this video yet also agreeing to run advertisements from the "Church" of Scientology. The "Church" of Scientology is vehemently anti-gay. What if Westboro Baptist Church had the resources to purchase RUclips advertising, is this a business relationship Google would be willing to enter into?

I am so glad to live in Québec. My brother didn't have to fear the ''small town'' thing and actually moved back and bought a house in our small town with his boyfriend. His neighbors seem nice, -crime rate? what crime rate.- and those that might not be okay with it mind their own buisness because they or the rest of the family never hear any snark. The only exception was a religious nut, who, ironically, was from the city and got such cold stares for his hateful BS he learned to watch his manners.

If your family is physically, or emotionally abusing you there is a way out. Don't run away though. But please ask for help. You'd be surprised how different it becomes in a caring environment. Good luck.

I wish the Trevor Project was around when I was a teen. I lived in a small town and every day in school was pure hell for me. I feel like I barely made it through life then. I'm almost 30 now and recently moved to an even smaller town of about 800. I can't say this is a story with a happy ending, I feel even more alone now but I'm not being put through pure hell from everyone around me every single day as I was back in high school. I can say though, things will get better. Hang in there.

I don't think that many people feel depressed that they are gay.I don't treat anyone with bias.
What Google is trying to say is in the end, always be yourself. If someone doesn't like me then chances are i don't fancy them either.Long story short, don't let other people that have less wisdom, dictate how you feel about yourself. They don't know you like you know yourself.
    That's good advise.
I'm straight by the way,and have many opportunities to be depressed about something.
Then you have to remember how lucky we truly are as a whole, for us all to be here.

I am 14l, I am a closeted lesbian. Just thinking about hugging a guy has always felt weird, and for so long, I stopped myself when I was looking at girls, I kept telling myself that kissing my boyfriend was nice, though it just felt wrong. It got better as soon as I accepted myself. Like every other gay, I have questioned myself, I have been depressed, I have felt like nobody would ever understand, one night I even considered suicide
but then I remembered, that it gets better.
    Thank You, IGBP.

@consult81 I know it probably seems really hard, especially now, but your family can never really hate you. You are a part of them and no matter what hurtful things they may say now, they will come around and realize that you are the same person they have always loved. And even if they don't come around, there are so many other people out there in this world who will love you for who you are, not what society dictates as being right or wrong. I used to always think I would be alone

i recently came out to myself as bisexual and i talked to a counselor who helped me come to terms with who i am. i was taught you either had to be gay or straight, that bisexuality was wrong on both sides. now i know better, and i now know myself! i haven't told my family but a few friends know and i'm thinking of starting a GLBT society help group in my college!

@josiahgobert I'm so sorry to hear about your mum, dad, and grandma. Yes, people will hate you. They'll judge you and tease you, but they're so small. Once you're out of high school, you never have to see them again. "Always say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."
