- In this video I introduce you to the new long term car for the channel. It's a stock E88 1 Series convertible with a 6 speed manual and the N54 engine.
The plan is to turn this into a 1M convertible and potentially a track car that can be used on the street.
In this video I give you a tour of the 135i and restore the interior. That includes redyeing the seats and center arm rest along with upgrading the steering wheel and shift knob.
This car is loaded and is really fun to drive. I'll revisit some N54 mods that I had done in the past but with better production quality and we'll turn this into a fun drop top.
Here is a link to the seller where I bought the steering wheel:

I have the same car. I can't get it to break. 88K miles, and once you fix the oil leaks, which appear gradually over time, it is a terrific car.
I believe "year one of one" means that was the first year of the 1 Series when it launched
Cool thanks, is this supposed to be a collector car or something one day? Lol
I’m excited for the rest of this. Love to see you work on N54 cars.
1m convertible conversion gonna be so good!
I got the same car a year ago and went FBO stage 2+ and she is a frickin ripper. throw some e85 and a MHD v5 e40 tune and it won't be beat on the street. that much power in such a small package is such a fun car to throw around. and you can cruise all day on the freeway at 90 getting 22mpg. so glad you are showing people what a fun and capable car this is. the smoking tire just bought one to build for giveaway not a cabrio though.
Lol I feel like it gets better MPG at 90 compared to 80 😭
Yeah I'm thinking MHD stage 2 will be plenty of power for this car for now.
No LSD and you can be easily best while your wheels are spinning.
I use that same dye on all my BMW's (E46, E39, F15 & E34) It does a great job. I also removed the "soft paint" on the center console drink holder & used the dye on it & it turned out great. I also used their Black BMW dye on many steering wheels & Shift knobs & made them look & feel new. Great stuff.
The guy who remanufactures those steering wheels lives right by me! I gotta check him out in person.
Very happy with his work.
finally more n54 content🎉
Hey that's my car's cute sister! Very Nice! I have an '09 135i coupe with a very similar setup. Mine is extremely well maintained and has a few tasteful upgrades and modifications (many of which are thanks to some of your earlier videos). I mainly steered towards better reliability and drivability, but for the most part, it's very original. I'm thrilled with this new project! Btw 'Year One of the 1" means your car was actually manufactured during the first production year of the 1-Series (up to 03/2009). Since my 135i was built in January 2009 I also have the special Start button ring.
All North American 2008s were adorned with "Year One of the 1" as 2008 was the first year it was available in NA.
YESSIR I HAVE A 135i N54, time to learn everything
that thing is crazy fast, and because it's so small, you'll feel like you're fliying
The modifications sounds sick, can't wait for more 🙂
Nice! Seems like the hot project car now. Makes me want to build an n54 again!
cool man. looking forward to this one.
I love seeing n54 vids! Can’t wait for the many more videos!
You love the E82
I love mine thing handles great and is a blast to drive
Can’t wait!!!
Just got a coupe myself. Will be following in your steps, can't wait.
Your videos are Awesome!!!!!
I had a 125i from 2009 with a N54 manual, I did got it converted into a 1M with full spec and even improved a bunch of tings. Ended up with mounting some garrets and giving it 680 hp. Had to change the diff for an m3 but it worked perfectly. Love your channel btw!. Now days I working on a 2012 xdrive 550i will be trying to convert it into an m5. I just hope everything goes well.
wow what a perfect fun car
That was no amateur shift knob change. Salute my brother
these 135s r so fkn sick
got to drive a tastefully chip-tuned (pop pop bang bang), short shifter, too low (tires rubbing fenders over certain bumps) one a few times a couple yrs ago
just so sick
the rotation on turnin feels so crazy - esp considering how front-heavy these cars r
excited to c where this goes !
love yr videos thx 4 sharing !
so gr8 that they kept the amazing hydraulic steering in the 135's even while most of the cars coming off bmw's lines were getting the terrible first gen electric steering setup !
N54 is back!!!
Welcome to the 1 (st) World, this will be fun 👍 😉
1M conversion less go!!
I’m biased since I own a 1er but you chose a great project car! I’m looking forward updates.
yippeee new project hoorayyyy
im exited about this project its exactly like my car 08 135i manual vert mine its Just Black
so glad to see you doing one of these. i bought a low mileage n55 vert in late 2020. yours appears to have the same issue as mine - delaminating rear glass. I didn't even realize it until someone pointed it out to me. yours looks the same - you can almost certainly get a finger between the glass and the top at the bottom rear of the glass. Interested to see how you handle it.
I'll take a look at it, thanks!
Great car Musa. I love that you took a convertible this time. Maybe an e93 too, in the near future? Dutch regards, Nico.
Look in the background... my black E93 is getting ready for sale, new headlight lenses, paint correction and a few other bits before sale
@@igotaction 🤗🥳
Thanks! Yeah looking forward to trying out the convertible in the California sun.
@@VehicularDIY (biased e64 owner here but) exx verts r fkn sick !
enjoy !
'08 N54 for the win! :D
so sweet. love my e90 i found unmodified with 18k in toronto
dudeeeee a 1m kit would be so unique and sick, if you do it i might takle it aswell eventually
I love the content and love the 1 series I can’t wait to see how this turns out. Did you notice that the steering wheel is more of a matte finish than the oem? I find the Re trimmed wheels although good quality don’t always match the oem In colour.
Thanks, I would say the factory steering wheels are pretty matte gray and turn black with time. My G20 and G80 had identical color/finish from new.
Have myself a 128i and that is a blast to drive I can’t imagine what a 135i is like
I Have three 128i m-sport. Bought them before the price for used cars sky rocket. The N52 engine is more reliable then the N54 and easier to work on. In my opinion, it's still a lot of fun to drive.
@@AnthonyStromDesign the 128 lacks the power and modification potential that comes with the 135.
cant wait..what's next
Loved my 1 series. Those vents always fade and the dash bubbles
Good to know.
Hard to find a none convertible 135i with a 6 speed.
Looks like a fun project
Love the new car! I need to use some of the leather rejuvenating cream on my car ! Where you purchase it online? The m4 rims look insane on the 135!!
Thanks! I linked it in the description.
paint restore, then wrap it in a mean color. make it a really mean little beast
heck yea 1 series for the win. want them to get more attention online so they go up in value lol
Thats nice!! Please do a n62/e66 06-09.
Thanks, I had an N62 in my E70. Some older videos on the channel.
@@VehicularDIY can i use the info to do work on my 07 e66 post facelift?
Mind sharing what tire sizes you have on the m4 wheels? They look a tad stretched, but it could just be an illusion of the camera.
Hey Musa, I imagine you already have a solid plan for the 1M conversion, but in case your taking requests... I would be very interested in seeing you swap in a proper LSD for this E88. Out of my own interests I'd be curious to know what you'd choose (MFactory, OE, other?) and how to go about it. I remember you made some videos covering a swap in your E90, but an updated revisit covering currently available parts would be welcome content for this project. Speaking from my own experience, an open diff on a tuned 135i leaves ya wanting more grip!
MFactory works great on my E92 335is. I would have added it to my 135i if I had kept it. The suspension and brakes needs to be totally redone unless it is just used as a lightweight but extremely quick daily driver.
VFSR pipes, bv boost pipes kit.
tune
Intercooler last
Can you fix cas fault 1 with programing and electrical know how or cas need to be purchased?
Sick! I also got an E82 Coupe. Any idea how expensive it is to swap an N54 in it? XD
Thanks! I'd say at least 5K.
what did you end up doing for the sun faded vents? i have the same problem
just an fyi you dont need too much of the adhesive spray, little bit on both surfaces and it sticks permananty in 10 second tho for a long lasting adhesion you wanna use some good contact cement as opposed to a spray can
Good to know, thanks. Seemed to tack up really quickly.
1M rims yes, M4 rims don't seem right yet. cool build
Hey, this maybe sounds weird but i watched your video about the rgb angel eyes on the e90 and i want to buy/install it on my bmw, could you please give me the link to the website or maybe the brand of the leds
What spray you used to repair the door panels ?
Following this. I’m looking for something like it - small convertible, but never really considered a 1 before. Interesting….🤔
That black 335i E93 will be for sale soon. Getting new headlight lenses and paint correction.
Sounds like you need a Z4 sDrive 35i
@@shawzymusic Problem with those is they do not have room for the pony radiator on the PPK2. E82 drives better by far.
Can you test ebay chinese index 12 fuel injectors see how long they last and if they work just as fine? The original/used index 12 injectors are super expensive so I'm sure we all like to know our alternatives.
Stick cabriolet is rare. Rare color.
Looks like show car. Careful with n54
it's not a coupe.
Did you forget to show the big brakes on that thing? That might be the best part.
You could always Google them if it's the best part to you
@@boarders5 or I can just walk up to those ones on that 135
Just a quick mention but yeah they're pretty sweet.
Tested couple 135is paddle coupes. Faster than my e93 2013 335is, however less stable...short wheelbase
$20k carmax 50k mi
135is coupe dtc
I think this car won't be any faster than my E90 as they weight a similar amount.
2008 was the first year for the E82 and E88. The under chassis reinforcements might be a little challenging to convert to a full M3 suspension.
Please, no drift car. That is like turning down a date because it is your circle jerk club night.
E88 with V8 twin turbo, DCT and full M suspension and LSD is absolutely fanfuckingtastic, fingers crossed this goes full send!
Single turbo incoming 💀
I’m having some issues with my car is there a way I can explain what happens or and email for contact
Ebay steering wheel , Alcantara
Do you know if the N54 engines have ceramic catalysts or metall ones?
Kind regards
I'd imagine they are ceramic but would have to look into it.
@@VehicularDIY thank you ✌️ and have fun with your new car
Brushed aluminum wrap the trim
I got my e93 like this but auto only had 1 owner bone stock
Nice, I like how the E93s are hard tops.
Do you have the link to the shift knob?
Sure www.amazon.com/dp/B09KRPZ2MN?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1
Black gloss grill
CF don't pop on blue.
Black gloss mirrors
Spoilers
I had one exactly this color but a 2010 but sold it cuz there were so many annoying interior rattles! Just bad build quality
Yeah lets hope the top rattling won't drive me crazy.
Lemans blue??? My DTC 13 335is conv w coral red.
The color is called Montego Blue Metallic
Csl rims
Would you consider doing a DIY custom tuning series? I have recently jumped into custom tuning my own n54 and have learned soo much however there really isnt much of a well defined guide or knowledge base when it comes to learning how to tune these cars. i would love to see a series like that explaining the in depth tuning for both a stock turbo and upgraded turbo car!
That could be interesting, I have done custom tuning on my cars in the past with stand alone but they were basic non VVTI.
There is a wealth of custom tuning knowledge for the N54 in its many configurations.
@@machtschnell7452 This is true however when i was learning from not knowing anything, just getting started was a painful process of trial and error and there was no clearly defined guide on how to easily start tuning. There is alot of information out there but you really have to dig around multiple places to find what your looking for.
@@VehicularDIY Well you have the perfect platform to start with here! Unmodified engine and show steps of custom tuning from stock as you go through more mods to the engine.
You can nuke the useless nav screen and replace it with a storage compartment.
Wood trim isn't sports
First
Can't find a non convertible fml
I specifically wanted a convertible.
Not hardtop bummer
Oh we have a hardtop for sale, 500+/500+ hp/tq, just putting new headlight lenses and paint correction.
They mad hard tops ?
No 335 convertible
@@Rockardo_ no hardtops, just regular or convertible
It probably would have weighed the car down too much, it's already much heavier than the coupe.
shame it's convertible though..
I was actually looking for a convertible for something different. I understand there will be tradeoffs
Its a convertible 😴
