I work for the UN and we are always exlporing platforms to create awareness on our programmes , most often we host workshops or print materials, I’ve realized playforms such as bumplove are a great modern way of creating awareness. This is a disruptive and innovative way of collaboration between traditional institutions with digital content. I enjoyed the episode provided by USAID the other day. My ladies, this is great work! Next host topics on malaria , malnutrition in children, gig economy, innovation etc , well done to the geustspeaker.

Unfortunately what you’re saying is right but society has been conditioned and formulated for and by men to lead. You only forgot that around the globe all National constitutions are laid by men. Laws are made by men and not women. Mostly Men propose and not women. Abakulu bebika basajja sibakazi. Children belong to men’s clan by default unless the mother is unsure of where they belong or who’s actually responsible for their children. Cooking, looking after children are basically related after all men don’t be pregnant. Name it. There’s a lot to think about and there’s a lot that’s impossible to change but can be amended to accommodate gender equality. As a woman who has lived both in and outside Uganda, I feel that ignorance, bullying, financial dependence, lack of training self esteem when children grow, culture and religion have and will continue to shape gender roles and or influence what women do and how we’re treated by society. Even women themselves believe men should be in power. Thank you so much for the talk and I hope my submission makes any sense.

One can never overstate the influence of norms and culture on GBV. I used to work for a Norwegian crisis center which dealt witn cases of GBV, and almost 90% of the cases were from African and Arab immigrants! It was clear that cultural norms and religious beliefs had alot to do with it.
So, many thanks to the guest for clearly atticulating and bringing awareness around the correlation there. So grateful for you all hosts of Bump Love. You're doing an invaluable job.

In my opinion as we strive on making this better, equal awareness should be emphasised on the boy child as well.Coz one shall not raise their girls well as manuela quoted and sends them out to men who are literally ignorant about the dynamics.
The roots have to be uprooted by providing necessary information to the male as well.

Religion does not give men power. [Read James 1:27] Society does. The root cause is power and control, which is very present in every relationship. The very giving of gifts that seem so innocuous is an element of power and control. The root cause is that humans have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. God admonishes men to love and care for their wives as Christ loves the church. Christ does not abuse the church.

Thank you ladies for this one. Imagine being here feeling really smart and then we find out we have all abused and have been abused unknowingly and knowingly. I will never be quiet when it comes to violence, I will do my part and then the choice is yours. I am sorry to everyone who has had to endure violence. Power is good but its misuse is the issue.

My say on why most women go back even after being beaten i think it’s coz women our love is more of emotions. We’re meant to be taken care of, loved and pampered which at times land is in troubles. We get so much attached and forget ourselves that you feel you can’t live without that sheep buh hun i promise you, you can thrive without one mistreating you. Women let’s learn self love banange, moment you learn it eeeh that man won’t have all that much power over you coz he really knows you ain’t settling for no sense.

Just sit home and take care of the kids." Then poor woman stops working only for the man to start the violence in the name of you're because of my money 😢😢

Power dynamics also change depending in the situation. Some children have power over their elderly parents because they support them. Money can change that dynamic, unfortunately.
Reminds me of the story of Joseph and his brothers and shift in power dynamic. The only difference is that he did not misuse his power. He instead used it as a blessing. Lord, teach me to be like Joseph.

Thank you ladies for the episode. It has reminded me of some violence that's not sexually based but denial of girls education in the name of girls shouldn't go anywhere beyond a certain class or level of improvement. So sometimes that violence comes from relatives that sell them off for marriage including women. Then also don't we have room for improvement. For behavioral change for the men and for the women. Apart from leaving options, maybe we should have organisations talking to the men about how to treat mother's, women, children better. We do appreciate this effort put in to the advocacy in these 16 days. You outdid yourselves.

The Bump Love ladies have done it again!, thank you ladies kudos to the guest speaker Zaitun for the insights and well elaborated ways of GBV. I hope our brothers from the west are listening in(not to point a finger) but these men have no regard for women at all but again like the ladies pointed out, information and teachings should be put out their even to the most remote areas of our countries and yes working with church leaders can be very effective. With love from kigali.

But there's nothing wrong with societies having norms that dictate their conduct. There's no race or society without norms.
We should uphold the good in culture and denigrate the bad, but not throw out everything or blanketly label society as bad!!!
Basically we should not throw away the baby with the birth water. Rather analyse the toxic power dynamics.
