I bent a prop once, it vibrated terribly. I brought it into a shop, and he just set it down on a fixture that matched the shape of the propeller. Then, a few whacks with a rubber mallet, and it was nice a straight again. Ran smooth.
Well, it's good to know in the off season those Johnson V4 90s make a great woodchipper! 😄 Hit some stumps with mine and thought I ripped the bottom of the boat apart. Then added a rocky bank for good measure! 😬 Needless to say, I need to do a little grinding on mine! A previous owner replaced the original lower unit with the large driveshaft (15 spline) and a 14.8 x 17 pitch prop. I'm thinking of going back to an original 20 inch standard shaft lower unit.
Prop’s can be rebuilt. I had a Johnson 90 and ran it through the muddy shallows of a channel. Took the bent prop to an omc dealer and they sent it to a rebuilder. In the 1990’s it cost 80 US dollars and a brand new prop was $110 months. Happy boating!
A friend of mine is going to have a 1978 Banshee MkII that's in good condition for sale later this month (June '22). The boat will be at Shuswap Lake in BC. Contact me if you know anyone who might be interested in purchasing it.
I hope the speed is the same as before.Even little dents in the propeller can influence the speed! But i agree with william riley, take it ot a repair shop.A propeller is a precision instrument!
Stuff Happens... You need to take your prop to a professional prop shop and have it Reconditioned & Re-Cupped...! That's not a safety Pin... It's a "Cotter Pin"... Now go have it done right...!
Seems like a good repair so you can use it as a spare prop. I'd grab a new one when you can though since they're so cheap. You could upgrade to a stainless one too if you wanted, although they're a bit more expensive.
Most people would have ditched the dented prop. Love how you use bush mechanics to get moving again. We all have made mistakes except yours is on film. I had a good laugh at this one.
What did everyone think of the video? Make sure to like and comment!

Thanks Peter! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Replace or send off to a prop shop. Don’t be grinding on it.
Yah that prop will never be used again 🤣 Thanks for watching!
@@Bansheeboat I like watching your video man. There’s no one that ever had a boat that didn’t hit the prop on something at one time or another.
Beautiful Georgian Bay...❤❤
No offense but that prop needs to go to a prop shop. Better yet get a stainless steel one👍🏻
Definitely will be getting a new prop soon. Thanks for watching!
@@Bansheeboat Stainless steel props are very expensive...
