It would be very brave to do so, but could we see some questions about Hoekstra's view on Dutch journalists in part II? The day Dutch journalists relentlessly grilled Hoekstra about mr. Voetberg's comment above was basically the last day they did their work properly.

A Dutch couple we accidentally met in Jackson Hole, Wyoming recognized my dad's Gelderland accent. Up to that point, dad had never been there. It was the language he grew up with in the United States before he started school.

Is it me or is it weird to live and work in a country but don't really know the language? Some people could hardly introduce theirselves.
Really depends on the situation I think. Some diplomatic personnel might have a posting in the Netherlands for 3 months, go home for a couple weeks, then have a 6 month posting in Germany, go home for 2 months, then have a 2 month posting in South Korea etc. And they might mostly live in their diplomatic bubbles, meaning that they mostly interact with people from their native country, whether that be other diplomats, government officials back home, or people visiting the home country who are in need of assistance.

U H89 that’s how Dutch ambassadors work, I believe the us handles it differently. They hand-pick their ambassadors (the government/president does I believe) and they’re just set there
Pete heeft sowieso erg weinig kennis, laat staan van de Nederlandse taal. Maar ja, Amerikaanse ambassadeurs worden ook niet gekozen voor hun kwaliteiten, maar hun band met de regering.
I'm getting married to a Dutchie in a couple months and have been slowly learning Dutch over the last 4 years. I guess i feel a bit better that our own people in the embassy in the Netherlands aren't much better at speaking Dutch than I am....

Wel Hoekstra spreekt Nederlands beter dan heel veel ambassadeurs voor hem. Nu nog wat meer ' alignment met Nederland' qua politiek. Says Huawei-fan.
Niet zo gek aangezien hij hier geboren is en meerdere jaren heeft gewoond. Die eerste paar jaar zijn toch bepalend voor welke klanken je kan maken als volwassene.
