    Considering the amount of boats and capabilities the PLAN has they are definitely a force to be reckon with. Rather curious about the new subs, especially the SSBN. By the way , The Chinese are very special in this regard
      The Chinese have a tremendously rapid-growing technological base in submarine-related areas ( compared to for example air defense , missile , aviation ( except for combat aviation engines ) , land forces and surface combatants in which the PLA has achieved maturity ) and hence after each series the new achieved technologies vastly date ( or maybe even outdate ) the older , available , currently deployed technologies . Consider that even now they're not fully on par with other nations , especially in nuclear subs . Also the experiences gained , and the mistakes of previous designs considered and the ways and requirements of the future learned , all lead to the development of new generations . Don't get me wrong , some of these technologies may eventually find their way to older hulls in service in modernizations or refits , but mainly the technologies are meant for the future not the past .

Your best chance is commerce raiding by the SSNs from only a few possible bases that are vulnerable themselves. The worst thing by far is the long term prospects. It takes American shipyards years to build a sub, and you have serious recruitment issues. It would be catastrophic for US Navy to engage PLAN because they can actually take losses and replace them.

    I have recently started watching your episodes, yet been reading your articles for years. And use them to help me on my drawings. (I like to draw (2D) cutaways in my spare time.) On one of your cutaways, how tall is the deck inside the Scorpène-class/Kalvari-class and A26 submarines? (Pressure Hull is 20ft diameter, which means 1 deck/2 levels. 10ft decks seems a bit large.) Been trying to draw a small diesel-electric/AIP, yet couldn't figure out deck height.

T boats had an interesting bow shape to them not really copied by any other navies. I think it may have been to accommodate 2 external forward torpedo tubes if memory serves. Was a max bow salvo 6, 8, or 10 tubes on a T? Were they able to enter course data to these 2 tubes, or were they just straight-ahead beefy bow salvos? Some submarines, especially diesel electric coastals use "swim-out" electric torpedoes, which don't need a pressurized air "push-out", which is the classic method and yes, it's very loud.

    • @piotrgrzelak2613
      @piotrgrzelak2613 2 года назад

      Also, regarding sound of torpedoes, because someone liked my comment and I got reminded about it. Electric motors are quieter, I know earlier Otto-fuel weapons (combustion engine) can be heard by the sound of their engine and not just propeller. In combat its normal that a launched torpedo will only get heard once it approaches the target due to a range of reasons - attacking submarine will try to position itself in a different layer, the dead zone behind the sub not covered by the high performance sonar, etc. But eventually every torpedo will be heard approaching due to the spinning propeller, and towed sonars universally used today.

The 093 and 094 are basically the same ship, with the difference being the SLBM module plopped in the middle. This is also why some 093s have been seen with the Chinese UVLS installed where the SLBM section is found in 094. Some people said the Russians and the Chinese were about to cooperate on a joint diesel-electric sub , presumably the Amur class ( not sure which variant ) and finally finish this project after more than a decade . Do you have anything solid on it or is it just rumors ? Personally I see it beneficial and logical for both sides but the Russians usually don't seem to think about benefit while pride makes them blind -_-
    This also adds new dimensions to their warfare since the Russians actually first implemented VLS on the Amur ( which was said to have AIP ) but was never completed -- and some sources also say the South Koreans received Russian technical support for the integration of VLS on KSS-III ( as once before they helped the Koreans with their KM-SAM air defense systems ) -- and increases the firepowers and options of these navies .

      Biggest advantage of lada/amur is its conformal sonar suite. Why would Russians want to just sell the tech to China, I'm not sure. If they bought several boats, sure. But there's really nothing to cooperate on. Second and third lada boats are being finished after their project changed mid-production. Boats 4 and 5 were ordered, which tells me the r&d is finalized.

    If China can fit HGV onto their future JL-3 SLBMs, does it mean their 096 SSBNs can operate in a bastion extremely close to shore along any part of the China coast since with HGVs there is no longer a range consideration. Hence no need to breach the first island chain choke points to avoid enemy ASW assets.

      That was never a plan to my knowledge. Shallow water like the bohai sea would be a pretty bad place to hide an ssbn. All of the jin class are stationed on Hainan Island and would hang out in relatively deeper south China sea.

    The Chinese can design and build ten submarines in the time America wonders if we can still build a submarine.

    I have some bad news.
    If your surface fleet can't operate outside the umbrella of your land based missiles,
    IT IS NOT A NAVY.
    Bring your sailors out to meet us in mid-Pacific.
    The sharks are hungry.
