Max Performance Takeoff London City Airport - Swiss Airbus A220

- Making a maximum performance takeoff out of London City Airport on a cloudy day bound for Zurich. The CS100 is the largest aircraft that can operate into City Airport due to the short runway (1,508 m). Notice the engines throttle up full before brakes are released, and the aircraft is rotated after a very short takeoff roll and makes a steep climb out. Of course it helped we had ~15 kts of headwind.
Airline: #SWISS
Aircraft: Bombardier CSeries #CS100 / Airbus #A220-100
Airport: London City Airport, United Kingdom - #LCY / #EGLC
Registration: HB-JBB - Авто/Мото
Even at full power it doesn't seem very loud. I bet the rotation was exhilarating.
The GTFs make a nice hum spooling up, but then air rushes in and any more sound is just muffled out. You don't believe the engines are really revving much, but the push is massive and you realize they are more powerful than you imagined. There's some exhaust noise behind the engine, but ahead, all is eeroly quiet with just a small hum that you quickly stop noticing. You can converse quietly even at full throttle. Incredible!
@@srinitaaigaura It was the same when I went on an A320NEO recently.
The a321neo is loud, you prob had Pratt Whitney engines, but you can’t hear the whale as much as you can in the a220
That climb is insane
Airborne in ~2,300 feet. Just incredible for a 125 passenger airliner. Wonder what the actual load was like that day...
Awesome catch! Would you be okay with me featuring this in my series Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description. Thanks!
That's some climb!!
those GTFs really workin!
crazy climb!
I thought the hydraulic sounds on A320s were annoying.
This 0:43 changed my mind.
I experienced an A220 takeoff at LCY that felt even faster than this - the pilot spooled up the engine with the brakes still engaged, and upon release the whole plane leaned back. A few seconds later, the engines spooled up even more and created a secondary push of power. The plane felt like it was in the air in 10 seconds - it was the most powerful take off I have experienced.
How do u know the brakes were on
@@Airyt12 you can feel it, the engines were spooled up but the plane did not move until the brakes were released
Thats one fast and steep tame off! Beautiful east London views too!
Soo beautiful. I love the A220 with its awesome sound❤. Thank you for sharing.
I fly often from LCY despite having a huge fear of flying. Every e-190 takeoff from there is similar as this too. It gets up to speed so quickly, then during rotation its like a never ending push into your seat and if the weather is bad it feels as though the engines are idling as soon as it powers down as you're rocking back and forth in the fog.
This was some serious takeoff :D
Is there a cellist practicing behind you? Surprised a flight attendant didn’t ask them to put it away until the captain turned off the seatbelt sign. 😜
Stunning capture! May I feature this takeoff in one of my next episodes? Of course with a link back to your original video. Cheers!
yes sure! great channel
Great job at showcasing how steep that take off was - do you mind if I use part of this clip for a vid, with a full link back to this vid/channel? Cheers
Amazing climb rate
Bro Reached Cruising Altitude Before The River Around The Water Ended Dang Thats Steep💀💀
Great video. Liked and subscribed.
Very nice 👍❤️
I know lift is described as suck the wing up from above and push from below, but here I can actually see it!
jesus christ this is one STEEP takeoff, and I thought that taking off from Rio de Janeiro was crazy steep and short.
That is a steep clim . I was expecting it though.
Steep takeoff angle.
Wow almost into a Vertical
Now that's a climb haha
Why is the plane making groany noises?
That's always the point I think I'm going to die 😂🤷♂️
It's the window
Totally normal for the A220, it's the hydraulics / PTU (Power Transfer Unit). Because the cabin is so quiet it does come through really loud. It goes away once the flaps are up. Even the A320 has a noisy PTU - it sounds like a dog barking, and often happens after engine start and after hard braking on landing.
Bloody hell
What do you mean by "max performance" ? dont you need max performance to lift off??
No you don't. Max performance in this case means full thrust which virtually all aircraft need to do at this particular airport because of the short runway. It burns up a lot more fuel and causes a lot more noise pollution, which is why it doesn't happen all the time.
Funny sound 0:45
I think its the GTF engines, I wonder what it is too
@@brandonflores3330 Power Transfer Unit, builds up pressure for the hydraulic lines
@@insertnamehere5660 and ur sure ur not confusing that with the a320
@@brandonflores3330 yes, all airbus have this as they run purely hydraulic flight controls and surfaces
Steep take off angle
PTU be crying like crazy😂
