You are absolutely correct on the dramatic increase in quality and execution in the basic range. I have been collecting hot wheels my whole life, and still have my childhood ones. That being said, the ones from the late 70’s through the 90’s can’t even touch the level of the current releases. (Don’t even get me started on the premium and RLC releases) I don’t know if I could even figure out my top 5 basics without changing my list a hundred times in the process. Great video! Made me think hard on that one.
Some that instantly come to mind for me are the Papaya McLaren F1 Road Car, the Neptune Maserati MC12, the red Ferrari 250 GTO, the pearlescent Honda Prelude from DG, the Carbon Zonda R, and the Casino Royale Aston Martin DBS. Especially surprised to see the F1 and Zonda omitted. But I agree with most of his choices.
Unreal i literally have that 180sx sitting on my desk because i had pulled it out of my random box in order to put it in a clam shell protector along with the red forza version.....was just thinking how i love it so much i want to preserve it and hang it up!!!! Totally love the list great taste LAMLEY!!
i love, Love, LOVE the 180 SX. Sadly mine was not salvagable after i tried to mold and cast it in parts as resin casts because i wanted to fleet build and paint them as customs. Lessons learned when customizing
No way just checked and I have the exact same r34 color and everything in pristine condition and i'm only 14 and am already a collector. Thanks Lamley for persuading me and motivating me to be a good person and a collector.
I have that mercedes and it looks amazing. I was really surprised when i saw it at a small grocery store near me and instantly took it. One of the most precious hot wheel that I have
I couldn't get enough of the 180 when I dropped, literally picked up every one I came across. Been sitting on a full case of them ever since. Can't agree more.
I love these show cases John and you’re always such a non biased opinion. I love it, the respect, the understanding and appreciation for all things hot wheels and diecast. The way in which you explain and interpret your thoughts and opinions on your choices are so down to earth and realistic. We don’t have to agree with your opinions but I can’t help but respect and appreciate your thoughts. Great choice and enjoyed seeing some of the other potential candidates
Definitely agree with majority of your selections. My favourite being the R34 & Prelude in second place. EK9 Civic, R33 & Datsun 510 would complete my top 5.
Hello! Nice selection for your top 5. I've been collecting these for over 40 years. It's tough to come up with just 5, since I've been doing this for so long. I would have to pick at least 20 of my favorites. Without looking through my whole collection, I would have to say that my favorite is the 1973 Ford Falcon XB. Too many to pick from.
One car nobody talk about is the C2 corvette in top for the Batman 5 pack. Full gloss black with chrome wheel and chrome floor. With the cognac interior, the combinaison is awesome!😊
Agreed: the technology post 2005 makes them 'the best' and yet...and yet... 1) the 68 Custom Continental just slays me. 2) The 96 Chevy Impala. 3) The 58 Edsel. 4) The 62 Mustang Concept. 5) The VW SP2. (Honorables: 56 Merc, 55 Corvette, Classic 66 TV Batmobile, 70 Honda N600, 63 Studebaker Champ, Volvo P220, Mattel Dream Car, VW Brasilia.) 🏆
Recently we had the white and yellow HW LBWK Super Silhouette Nissan S15 Silvia which was in the original LBWK deco. It was amazing as a HW basic model. I recently got one and I was blown away by the quality.
Thank you for showcasing the red 180SX! You reposted my instagram story a while ago about that Model and it's still one of my absolute favorite mainlines to date! I have a loose wheelswapped one, two short cards sealed (a third one coming soon to me) and a sealed long card! I love that model
I love the 180sx casting and also the newer s13 coupe, I would love to see HW do a s13 vert (convertible) with the top down or up like how matchbox did the MR2 with pop up lights up and down. Hopefully we get an RLC S13 soon.
Favorite "Basic" castings (not specific issues of them) 1) La Fasta (DeTomaso Pantera: my #1 favorite car) 2) Classic Cobra/Shelby Cobra 427 3) '32 Ford Delivery 4) '69 Ford Mustang Boss 302 5) Classic '36 Ford Coupe (redline)/Neet Streeter (still own a redline from when it was brand new in 1968)
Sorry missed the boat completely on your five! There are so many you left out I don’t know where to begin. I have my garage walls covered with them have many that would be in my top 5 that weren’t even in the video
Thank you. I just opened that same Honda Prelude 2 days ago. The color on it is just the most amazing color and I am the look out to see a car that color in full size.
Nice choices… now after making a hw basic top 5 vid and a car culture top 10 vid previously….Can you please do a matchbox top5( or 10) for a matchbox Monday episode. Cheers !
I absolutely agree with the 180sx as number one. It’s such a perfect casting and a car that for some very odd reason, so many great brands are not making. Mini GT, Tarmac Works, Inno64, etc are absolutely missing out on how popular the 180sx/240sx is.
It's very difficult to pick my all-time favorite mainline since they're so many to choose from. However, there's two new castings in particular that really stick out to me that ironically came out in the same year as each other (2021) It's the '98 Honda Prelude and '94 Audi Avant RS2. These two were superbly done and so well executed for mainlines. I've always been a fan of those two! If I had to choose another one to say I have a top three, it would be another car that came out that year which was the Mercedes-Benz 500E. Another casting that was so well executed and looked phenomenal for a mainline! Nothing else really comes to mind except for those three. When it comes to brand new stuff, that upcoming Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG is gonna be a smash hit! I sure can't wait for that one! That's probably the best new casting this year and within the last five years!
The S13 was fantastic when it dropped...NOW with the SA3Rs wheels, that combo would be the perfect S13 hatch. I love the 55th Anni one, but I will definitly be doing a wheel swap onto the CRP S13. The Z32 and S13 coupe also are in my top 5. surprised they didn't make a runner up since you loved the Z32 soo much when it came out
My top 5 would be 1- Porsche 993 GT2 2-95 Mazda RX-7 3-Ford Shelby GT350R 4-the new Porsche Carrera RS 5-Ken Block’s Ford Fiesta, the co-molded base was sweet! 5.1- Aston Martin DBS (i know it is cheating but i couldn’t leave it out)
I have to agree since about 2005 the hotwheels have been hot!!! since i seen the 240z and the Datsun 510 i was hooked! i really got into the Nissan stuff and then it just blew up for me.
5:43 the car that made me almost cry, man good old times. Mid 2000s had the best Hotwheels cars both fantasy and real licensed. Yet Hotwheels refuses to releases these again into basics and stick to overhyped jokes. Also half of the cars you showed are actually in my top 10 list lmao, actually happy that you had put the new 911 on this list it's such a good car.
I can't be completely sure but here're my top 6 favorite basic cars (couldn't pick only 5!): 1. Ferrari P24 (2001, red color)- man what a cool-looking car. I think it represents the hot wheels brand well, just cool looking, futuristic fast cars. 2. Nissan Skyline GTR (2011, blue)- loved this model so much. It's so well sculpted, with the sharp edges, the black, detailed backlights plus the gear wheels, uff. 3. Back to the Future Time Machine (2011, first edition)- I love the BTTF movies, and this being the first readily accessible time machine toy car (in my time and country at least) made it one of my favorites. Plus it's pretty accurate and very detailed. 4. Rail Rodder (1995, black)- as a train enthusiast with no budget, seeing a hot wheels style train, with all the detail, the tiny wheels, the flames, the colors, it all is just awesome. Childhood original. 5. Hot Tub (2006, zamac)- the concept, the detail, the clear plastic water with the bubbles, the shiny zamac, the wood paneling of the tub, it's an amazing design, well executioned. 6- Shadow Jet II (1994, kung fu force blue)- another childhood original. Love the futuristic, funky tech design, although I admit the original chrome one is way better. I like collecting what I like, not just realistic cars. Some designs are just too cool, why limit myself like that? Although nowdays I mainly collect movie cars, if I see a cool hotwheel, be it licensed or not, I still pick it up.
I don't do Instagram..# Lamley Top 5: 55 Chevy Gasser in flat fuchsia, Lamborghini Sian FKP 37 in satin olive green, 84 Mustang SVO in silver, Lancia Delta Integrate in dark green, Porsche 930 Cyberpunk, 65 Malibu TH in green
Love the 180sx have a few and have the panel truck/cycle which is classic "value added" hotwheels. ala VW bus, Black buick gnx with removable front clip, silver karmann ghia.
I was waiting to see the Subaru 22B STI first edition, I am little disappointed for that, but I respect your top 5, everyone has their own favorite castings
...and they *Actually* gave that 89 AMG a PROPER Steering Wheel Hot Wheels Gets VERY lazy sometimes when even the cheapest 1970s diecast had crisp Steering Wheels.
Picking 5 favorite castings is extremely difficult. I am not critical of the accuracy of castings, so my choices are based on the cars that I just had to buy the first time I saw them. I would pick the Ferrari 250 GTO, the Ferrari 365 GTB Daytona, the Shelby Cobra Daytona, The Datsun 240Z and the new C-8 Corvette. They all shared an "Oh, WOW!" moment in the store. There are easily 10 or 15 castings that would finish tied for being in the top 10. Thanks for doing the video and stream. It was really fun!
5. corvette c06 4. mitsubishi evo 10 3. enzo cerrari 2. skyline gtr r34 1. morris mini body case detachable those where my tops hotwheels collection...
Id say my top mainline thats recent at least is the lime green 1973 civic custom, such an amazing little car, secondly would have to be an oldie but its a dark blue r34 with a little spoiler that tends to shift back and fourth, but looks great on a shelf and has for years
Good choice, I really don't agree or disagree, I do believe you have a good taste and it is not easy, I have hundreds of cars in my collection, all what I can tell you is the satisfaction to know that I have 85% of yours good taste choises ..... of all of models that you showed, wish I can have the red ferrari .... happy Hotwheeling !!!!
OMG The Ford Galaxy never got the treatment it deserved! The 55 Nomad was done in baby blue with a white top fantastic and it was all metal. I have to check out or I'll be going nuts all night here.
Interesting top 5. I know mine by heart. No particular order , but mostly because of the decals they have come out through the years. These are also the castings I have most of and always buy when they come my way. Twin Mill, '41 Willy's(the big Dragster version), Fandango, Greenwood Corvette, '70 Plymouth Superbird. Rounding out my top 10. Lamborghnini Countach, '55 Chevy Gasser, '57 Chevy(blown Engine), Rodger Dodger, Arachnorod, Metrorail Nash Metropolitan. Catching up are TV Series Batmobile, Twin Mill 3, The Gov'Ner, Twinduction, and most recently I've noticed quite a lot of Dieselboys in my collction. Last but not least one car. Panoz GTR-1. I only have three, First editons included, but I think it is a gorgeous looking race car. Hot Wheels needs to bring it back.
My top 5 are quite simple: 1. Honda Prelude - Silver 2. Honda Prelude - white 3. Honda Prelude - blue 4. Honda Prelude - red 5. Honda Prelude - green Heck I'll make top 6 and add the Yellow on as well
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the Pagani Zonda R. I have them both in black and white. The black version is cleaner. I also mistakes it for a premium
I hope CLK DTM or Titan could enter top 5 *edit* not gonna lie, that 288GTO, 62 Chevy and 180SX are great casting. Hot Wheels should take a break from R34, personally I feel enough of them.
The LBWK S15 is the best mainline of all time especially in the pseudo John Player black and gold. The Prelude with Mom's license plate in metallic silver comes next. 🎬
That new Mercedes is simply beautiful
You are absolutely correct on the dramatic increase in quality and execution in the basic range. I have been collecting hot wheels my whole life, and still have my childhood ones. My favorite hot wheel I have is a 850i from 1990 metallic blue with gold bbs
I love Lamborghinis especially the RLCs. The Foxbodys are extra nice
Some that instantly come to mind for me are the Papaya McLaren F1 Road Car, the Neptune Maserati MC12, the red Ferrari 250 GTO, the pearlescent Honda Prelude from DG, the Carbon Zonda R, and the Casino Royale Aston Martin DBS. i love, Love, LOVE the 180 SX. Sadly mine was not salvagable after i tried to mold and cast it in parts as resin casts because i wanted to fleet build and paint them as customs. Lessons learned when customizing
i think that unreleased alfa gtv should be in top 5 imo, absolutely amazing
No way just checked and I have the exact same r34 color and everything in pristine condition and i'm only 14 and am already a collector. Thanks Lamley for persuading me and motivating me to be a good person and a collector.
I must say, I do absolutely love the prelude model. I'm not a Honda girl by all means but wow I was blown away as to how good it looks
Agreed. I wish HW would do an SVX or an '86 XT coupe w/ the same paint scheme instead of another STI. I already have a 1:1 Impreza.
@@07imprezadude matchbox’s SVX is so good tho
I have that mercedes and it looks amazing. I was really surprised when i saw it at a small grocery store near me and instantly took it. One of the most precious hot wheel that I have

I agree with the 180SX, I had tons of those before I sold all my mainlines. I still love that release more than anything.
The Old School basic 1980's Red '33 Ford Coupe ZZTOP Eliminator is a very cool basic that may hold up today.
Some awesome releases in there. One car that I think deserves to make the list is the 88 Honda CRX in red

Recently we had the white and yellow HW LBWK Super Silhouette Nissan S15 Silvia which was in the original LBWK deco. It was amazing as a HW basic model. I recently got one and I was blown away by the quality.
white and yellow yeah, but yellow based one is horrible

I agree with the nissan 180sx, it's been my favorite, hands down, out of all the th, sth, mainline, rlc or any of the premium series I've collected!
Oversize rear wheels is an automatic DQ for me 🏴👉
Absolutely agree with you on the R34.
I lost count of how many 180sx I have. Is just a super cool hotwheels car. Love it.
Mine are the Custom Mustang (1968), the Audi RS3, the Honda Prelude, Pontiac GTO convertible and new.Mercedes Benz
I love the 180sx casting and also the newer s13 coupe, I would love to see HW do a s13 vert (convertible) with the top down or up like how matchbox did the MR2 with pop up lights up and down. Hopefully we get an RLC S13 soon.
At least from the bunch, the RS2 needs to be my favourite
I didnt even know it existed, but now i know that i NEED to have this in my collection
I have 2 of the 5 in your top 5, and I couldn't agree more with the original r34 and custom chevy pickup. I NEED that 180sx so bad now.
Favorite "Basic" castings (not specific issues of them)
1) La Fasta (DeTomaso Pantera: my #1 favorite car)

4) '69 Ford Mustang Boss 302
5) Classic '36 Ford Coupe (redline)/Neet Streeter (still own a redline from when it was brand new in 1968)
Love La Fasta. Those two Art cars from a few years back with the diagrams are my favs.
Wonderful show! Thoroughly enjoyed!!❤️
Sorry missed the boat completely on your five! There are so many you left out I don’t know where to begin. I have my garage walls covered with them have many that would be in my top 5 that weren’t even in the video
That black '69 Pontiac GTO with the yellow window and the '84 Ferrari 288 GTO in Pearl White are definitely on my top 5.
Thank you. I just opened that same Honda Prelude 2 days ago. The color on it is just the most amazing color and I am the look out to see a car that color in full size.
4:33 Goodyear tires on a basic look really good. The casting is an Studebaker pick up
The 48 fleetline is one of my favs
2:23 Look at those new wheels!!!! I’m getting that one
I'm really surprised the first release of the 22B in that classic World Rally Blue and gold 10 spokes wasn't on there. It looked like a premium.

not gonna lie, that 288GTO, 62 Chevy and 180SX are great casting.

I came across a new version of the Knight rider K.I.T that I never saw before it awesome Yes I have the five you showcased 🤠🇧🇸
Great Showcase! Greets from Germany Mister Lamley.
Pretty sure the motto is "SINCE 68"... LOLOLOL
The LBWK S15 is the best mainline of all time especially in the pseudo John Player black and gold. The Prelude with Mom's license plate in metallic silver comes next. 🎬
The AMG Mercedes is super cool . I like castings with full light tampos I could put on my own graphics😎🇧🇸
Great video. Your number one pick is nice but that pearl white Ferrari is a little cleaner and hits a little better to me.
Oh, yeah, and I would love to see you do the same thing with the unlicensed Hot Wheels Originals. Several of them are very cool! K
why sec is in the HW TURBO series XD?
The Venenos (Red or Zamac)I consider #1 of mainlines and zamacs.
The more details a Mainline has the better it is. In my opinion it should have full deco.
Agree about the better technology
Even though I don't have the Ferrari FF it's one of the best hot wheels ferrari's
