Interview Nightwish - Tuomas Holopainen & Marco Hietala (part 2)

FaceCulture spoke to songwriter Tuomas Holopainen and bassist Marco Hietala just before their gig in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. In over 30 minutes we discussed the past, present and future of Nightwish, the importance of Marco for the band, writing lyrics and songs, growing up in Finland, musical heroes, science fiction, self esteem, Once and lots more! I really liked the reporter's attitude. In the beginning, Tuomas and Marco seemed actually didn't seem to care about the interview and they were over-relaxed. But the reporter kept asking seriously, Tuomas and Marco got serious. And here we have a great interview.

Without revealing certain things, there were a lot of good insights here. Writing is a process that is different for each song. Why? Because each song is different! It has to evolve and come into existence its own way. A cookie cutter answer is not appropriate here. Thanks Marco and Tuomas.

I guess in the beginning Tuomas thought it was one of 'those' interviews with classical easy-going questions but he got serious and well-prepared questions. And I think somehow he didn't like this and disliked the reporter in some way. Look at the tension during the question about writing a song (and the way he says 'of course!').
Or he was just very busy, I don't know 😅 but this was a great interview by the way.
