You mean block an overhead? A smash is usually shorter so you would have to go really close and still if they smash, you might wanna reconsider if that’s your best option. If you wanna block from back, near the fence/glass area just take a firm position like you are going to volley and stay low but light. Always prepare mentally for the side you cannot let the ball pass (aka the fence) and then the middle you have to have a quick mind to recover if they play there. Just try to volley to their feet below the net level and absorb the speed of the ball and go in if you have a food chance
To block the bajada, you take a firm stance at the net, get low and protect the face with your racket. Usually anything higher your head is out and this way you block better than standing with straight legs and they can play to your stomach
There are many ways of holding the racket. The important is that you have a good grip meaning you have a good feeling to hit all the shots and different effects.
The best coach one can have!

Valuable video. What is the role of the wrist on the forehand volley? Is it flexed or neutral? Do you keep it firm during the swing?
Yes, you keep it firm. You don’t slap or break it.
@tastyplayhard shit I've been doing it wrong 😅 I thought you need to use the wrist to get the backspin/slice effect
Good guidance, but she also picks up really fast 😉
