the gai jatra(cow festival) is celebrated mostly by Newar community of Nepal...It is celebrated once in a year..One of the Ancient King of Nepal started this festival cz it is said that when The king love once died he and his family were very sad and to be happy again the king order to start a festival in gai jatra wearing and to dress diffrent and dance in music so that his family forget the person who die ... n from that time if a people die in newar community then in same year that family will hav to do a gai jatra for once to forget the pain...
