Plus she's 18, it's her first attempt at US open, comes after breathing difficulty at Wimbledon, she didn't compete for 18 months during covid but studied and got great A level results from college, she still hasn't played a top 10 player but most impressive is her charm, intelligence, temperament fluent Chinese and Romanian and her beauty. WOW!

They say in sports, winning is more than 50% mental, and I have the feeling that nobody on the women tour right now is mentally tougher than Emma. Also, she has a wonderful positive attitude that: Hey, I'm swing any ball that comes my way and I like to beat anyone on the other side of the tennis court -- I like to challenge myself. Even if I lose, it's a win-win situation for me since I'm so new at this. I will not be surprised if she will win the Australian and the Wimbledon next. An absolute gift to tennis and the sports world when we need it most. Go Emma!

As a fan, I too would like to see her confirm at the highest levels and sustain this over the years. Just temper those hopes with a dose of realism as the tour has a lot of great players : Osaka, Barty, Plikova, Andreescu, Serena (always a threat until she retires), etc.

@@boke75 yes she will do well and i am so happy to see fresh faces that show great tennis abilities as Leylah Fernandez Also ! But to even think she will just start winning Grand slams like Australia coming in the new year is a big stretch ! Lets just hope she does well ! My one hope for Emma and her coaching team is that she doesn't overdo it and can remain injury free .
The other UK hopeful Jo Konta seems to be forever out of action with some injury .

the good thing in that regard is Emma is ver clearly willing to switch up her team if she feels it's best for her. Switched coach between Wimbledon and the US, dropped her coach again after (tbf there were extenuating circumstances ther). But I think if she felt a coach was pushing her in an unsafe way physically she'd drop them & find someone better for her.

Emma is the first female player in a very, very long time whose game is the complete package. Sure she can improve, but so can everyone. Overall, there is very little to criticize especially considering her age and experience. If she can stay healthy and stay away from the celebrity and media vultures, there is no reason why she can't emulate Serina's success in the woman's game. She is hands down the best British sporting star since Andy Murray and Lewis Hamilton.
