I remember in Remake, when Dan fought Rufus not knowing what attack to use, my first thought was "It's got to be Braver, right? Would suck to enter the boss fight and you're required to learn optional abilities, so probably the one guaranteed one." And now Dan is trying everything else again.
Can't complain, though. I beat Ganon in Skyward Sword not catching onto the one gimmick of the whole game of raising the sword skyward. Took me like half an hour to whittle him down with normal attacks xD

For the record, Rufus can fire his gun six times before he has to reload. Mobility shots, normal attacks, and named attacks all count. If he hits you, he will take the opportunity to reload early and reset the counter, but otherwise, you can always know when he's about to reload by counting his shots. Unless it's an unblockable (indicated by a red triangle), it's always better to block or parry his attacks. And Braver is the attack that staggers him instantly.

36:11 I mentioned before that this sequence is one of the most memorable from my own playthrough. This right here is a big part of why. I love that the Turks get involved, I love that Dio makes it a part of the festivities, and I love the timeout to make use of the provided facilities. It's all so fantastic.
Having said that, it was also very frustrating, having so many difficult fights back to back (to back), culminating in a solo rematch with Rufus that took me probably half a dozen tries. That difficulty combined with the over-the-top showiness involving some of my favorite characters really solidifies the experience as one of the most memorable for me.

The way things go with Cait and Reeve glimpses in this game suggest to me that the reason Cait really helps them steal the keystone is thst Tsung is onto him as of the scene we see him changing the wanted posters. And he sat on that intel and told Rufus, who decided to play that card to force Reeve to cooperate. Alternately, I could see us finding out that Tsung used a threat to marlene/elmyra to force Reeve rather than Reeve using that threat on the party in the original... this might be a day early but... close enough.

So Rufus does actually have an ammo count with bigger attacks consuming more ammo, but it's very often hidden because he will take the opportunity to reload any time it's safe for him to do so. This includes any time you're staggered or knocked over. He's a tough fight. I wish there were more enemies leading up to him that had that level of reactionary awareness to clue you in that it's something to expect and look for.

Some Skywheel Date differences that some might appreciate:
Cait, Cid, Vincent: Cait panics at the space battle outside and Cid... tries to evade it. Ultimately, none of the boys want to be on the ride (Cid particularly is miffed that he can't actually steer the thing) and Cait grabs his megaphone to beg to get off.
Barrett: Barrett tries to shoot at the spaceships, and calls the Chocobo Racing Projections "in-kweh-dible" (Cloud is not impressed). We also get a sweet backstory dump when Barrett tells Cloud about when he met Myrna, as well as potentially Barrett trying to talk girls with Cloud
Red: Red starts doing the excited dog pant on the Skywheel. Also Red tells Cloud that he and Aerith haven't been able to see the future since Midgar, but still pleads with Cloud to keep her safe (potentially making Cloud shake on it, which gives Cloud the opportunity to see HOW SOFT his paws are). We also get a line in Old Red voice.
Yuffie: Cloud almost ditches her getting into the Skywheel, and Yuffie apparently forgot that she gets motion sick until it's too late. Yuffie asks Cloud about him and Tifa, and tells Cloud about her time meeting Zack (in Crisis Core). Also you get either: "Say something!" "...Something" or Cloud play fighting with Yuffie.
Tifa: the two are so busy with a courtesy ward they almost miss their gondola. Tifa also lies about talking to Aerith about Zack. Also other moments that I'm sure everyone's already heard about by now.

So much talk about in this episode! I think I’m going to go with the fight with the Turks, which I think is probably the one that is too many. If I have one consistent criticism of Remake and Rebirth, it’s that they both have a bit of a habit of inserting boss fights where there probably doesn’t need to be one. We’ve already fought Rude and Elena, twice if you do the Gongaga protorelic quest, and this one doesn’t really add anything to make it worth the repeat. Even the third Turks fight in Remake was at least our first duo fight with them.
I do really like the Rufus fight after it though, and that feels a bit harder to set up without it, so idk it’s probably worth it

It's weird to me that Corneo and his goons seem to have no reaction to seeing them at the tournament. I get that they wouldn't want to make it public like the announce team saying "oh yeah these guys beat us up like a month ago", but like a "you again!?" or a shocked look or something. Maybe they don't recognize them without their pretty dresses.

I do wish they had properly made it clear that your supposed to pick your third character before you enter the colosseum, because everyone assumed it was like every other arena battle where you select your character on the screen after selecting a match. 3:14 Cloud, even I wouldn't make that mistake. You take the invitation.
4:15 It's Cloud's true superpower: a special level of social ineptitude.
5:14 This is a case of "kinda awkwardly uncomfortable now". Being told "hey, you're just like this other guy I used to date" is the least smooth Aerith has ever been in Rebirth.
5:30 At least she kinda saves it.
7:16 May not be my personal vibe, but still super cute. Landing stuck.
10:46 Downside of not wearing much: hard to hide bandages.
11:53 Corneo and his lackeys remain punchable as ever.
12:51 Yes, dan, the game expressly told you to pick a third -wheel- party member before saying you were ready. Specifically before.
16:06 I'm not often this grossed out, but Don Corneo and "fatherly love" don't belong in the same post code.
    18:43 Thanks, I hate it.
24:31 Could this guy get any more disgusting? He's just the worst.
32:43 RIP AND TEAR! Then put him on a spike for the birds to eat.
33:06 You're a waste of Carbon. You deserve to be hanged by your entrails and your corpse paraded through Wall Market.
51:47 Having skimmed some comments... I can't call it terrible, but it's pretty bad. You may be guaranteed Braver, but "Braver" is shorter than "Certain attacks", is precise, and takes nothing away from the challenge of the encounter. There's no real reason to make it vague. Also, Remake was *4 years* ago, and remembering "the one move that solves that one fight" is not a reasonable expectation for the player.

This Rufus fight is an absolute monstrosity tbh. The continuing opaqueness of the tips from Assess continues to cause problems and is WORSE this time around imo. My Normal mode win was only because I desperately used the Moogle Trio summon and that was so not the optimal play at all (I did NOT want to redo the Rude and Elena fight tbh). Yeah as Dan says, it's a very broad strokes sort of adaptation. There's battles, but not against Corneo, the Turks, or Rufus. Also the order has been reversed, as you do the battles, then the date, then the Keystone is stolen.
Honestly, other than the battle with the Turks, it kinda feels like the dev team was like "well we gotta have a Corneo battle this time, and we gotta have another Rufus battle. Where do we put them?"
