The OC created offensive schemes specifically for Dylan so he was def starting regardless of the depth chart. I’m a Buff’s fan but I’m not delusional - this loss hurt. He’s a highly liked player by teammates, coaches and fans alike. Guys like that aren’t typically those who aren’t willing to work and fight for their spot. There are a lot of reasons he could’ve transferred and we need to be realistic.
The crazy thing about all this is I think Colorado has upgraded at every position that left. They're going to have big bruising RBs that can wear a defense out. I can see Colorado blowing out a couple teams so the backups will get burn. I have a feeling Colorado will win 9-10 games this season.

Dylan Edwards can't run through the first level of the defense he's a small RB. I know speed kills but damn if you can't get between the tackles to get to the secondary to elevate your speed you're useless. Having a bigger RB that will give you 9 to 10 yd every other play he touched the ball is better then getting stopped at the Line of scrimmage.

You want school loyalty? Try the FCS. Colorado is not even among the schools ravaged the most by the portal. Not even in the top 10. Dylan is more a slot back than a RB or HB. I think he should go to slot, but be that versatile receiver who can take hand offs every once in a while, his bread and butter plays being jet sweeps, tosses, screens, dump offs. He operates better in space and I do not think that curent Buffs offense would use that plays that often, not that he was ever the true #1.
It’s not so much competition, it’s the pass heavy scheme. This offense could be 70/30 with RBs splitting workload. It’ll be tough to keep any RB for long periods of time unless they are comfortable barely touching the ball.

RB needs to start thinking of the NFL as a RB you don't want to be a 1st round pick and you don't want to be a heavily used guy in college. If your are round 1 you are locked in a cheap deal all your prime then if you are heavily used they will also use that mileage against you

Dallas Hayden would do himself a service to re-enter the portal . Even if he starts his touches will be below the P5 average for starting RB's. It begins the breaking of my heart as this season unfolds believing his college career is going to be restrained. The way CP did those RB's in his first season dropped about 20% of the love I had for him. I believe Wilkerson, Edwards and McCaskill see this season will also lean heavy on the passing game. They are too talented to be deprived of carrying the ball 🏈 and smart enough not to make the mistake K Smoke made transferring to Colorado. These kids want to go pro and they won't have the resume from Colorado
