Great recap! I originally found you with your Magic Keyboard skin review. 👍 Keep up the great content!
I was wondering why the new magic keyboard couldn't be used on the new iPad Air, or even older iPads, but your explanation makes sense.
They also removed the physical SIM slot. Not mentioned during the announcement of course
Ordered mine…..coming next week
Thanks for sharing with us. I looked at the difference if I chose either the 1 or 2T but it don’t use it for anything special so I’m upgrading to the 256 like I have now 52.24 memory used. Thanks again for everything. 😀👍
Max Tech posted a video yesterday and there’s essentially no difference between the binned nine core version and the 10 core version with 16 gigs of ram (only 1 to 5% faster).
I saw that … he felt the money would be better spent elsewhere
I use the cameras on my iPad whenever it’s convenient to do so or if my main devices don’t have power
I liked watching your video. It was very informative. My big dilemma is getting the additional storage and more ram. If I am able to use the iPad as a convertible notebook and the only way I think that would work is if Apple decides to allow users to install the macOS on the iPad pros. It would then be worth it to me to get that and have one device that functions as my computer and an iPad. Otherwise, I think I will stick with the basic 11 inch model and not bother with the keyboard. This is what I am currently doing. I also need to see whether having the new OLED displays really makes a difference, especially if I use it outdoors as I occasionally do. I will wait until after WWDC to see what is happening with software. I was also surprised by the keyboard port only being allowed for charging.
Can you flip the new magic keyboard behind the iPad?
I already ordered the new iPad Pro 11 inch and new Magic Keyboard. I am going from the old iPad Air with 10.9 purchased about four years ago.
Congrats! I’ll be getting a 13” and my iPad getting put in the drawer is a 9.7 reg. iPad from 2017! So getting a big, big upgrade!
So glad the new keyboard has an Esc key and the usual function keys. I really need it when I am logged into a Linux environment via ssh. Esc is super important when using vim.
Yep that will be nice!
The escape key sold it for me😂
Cant find or does anyone know what the weight is of the magic keyboard for the pro ipad in 11 “. So whats the total weight together?
Decided to try out an iPad Air, since I did not want to get rid of my existing keyboard and buy another one just to try out the new Pro. Not very nice of Apple to force that issue. Having to buy another pencil was bad enough, but at least that brings the new camera location which I understand got in the way of the pencil 2 charging. There are third party charging devices to charge the pencil 2, but the new pencil seemed to have a few interesting new features. Besides what’s another $130 between Apple and me at this point.
One of the biggest differences I've found it the past with iPad pro /keyboard combos, is that is really doesn't live up to the 'post-PC' hype, let alone to obvious deficiencies in iOS vs MacOS. These combos tend to not balance well, can't relly be used on the lap and/or other 'on the go' scenarios, rather, they tend to work best on a desktop & which tends to defeat the purpose a little.
Given here that we have a redesign of both the 13" iPad Pro (thinner, lighter) and the the new magic keboard dimensions and materials, am therefore wondering if this really improves this situation in terms of balance & ergonomics.
Of course there are many other less expensive keyboard options available, eg, the excellent ESR accessories etc, but, what about Apple's prefferred expensive combo here, paerhaps even including their new pen at the top (extra weight and/or balance considerations). Does it actually work like a laptop? Or is it another overpriced nothingburger?
pencil I’m annoyed but accept it may be related to the camera repositioning (but couldn’t they have put the charging on the side? maybe just have magnets on the top for storage? The keyboard is more frustrating though. If the pins are the same then at least giving the option to use the 2018/2020 keyboard with the new ipad pro would be good - and then let us upgrade later if we want.
Excellent recap! New fan of the show.
Woohoo!
Software is 👑
Still lacking.
Maybe we will get full Mac mode in the fall. We will find out in a month.
@@JerrySchulze Yes, therefore no reason to upgrade.
@@JerrySchulzeyou'll get used to it. Like apple watch to iPhone. iPads to macbook
Yes, we use the camera on the iPad Pro for our church’s livestream. It is a fantastic option in tandem with FilmicPro app and BoxCast service. I actually have been using an iPad for video podcasting, even green screen recordings, since 2013. People seem to only judge the iPad’s value based on how they would use it but there are so many use cases. It has been my main device for business and personal use since the Pro was released…not that you need to upgrade with every iteration but I will be seriously considering this one since I have the 2020 model. So looking forward to true dual screen functionality with my 2nd monitor.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I’ve been using my M1 with a display today, because it has been a while, and is frustrating coming from a Mac. But I get your points.
Could you give me the URL for your church livestream? I'd love to see how it works. We have a very technical setup for our church livestream and it's way overkill, would love to somehow simplify.
Use an iPad camera for church? You’re going to hell 😂
@@puckhead1221 haha, yes that would have been the reaction of some in earlier times :).
This is my force iPad Pro in this form factor and I’ve never had a keyboard for it because I thought $350 was a ridiculous price. I now have one and it’s really weird getting used to it. Unbelievable that it can’t do certain things, even after googling them, also in a quiet room every time you type a key there’s a really weird springy echo that’s really annoying. I have a feeling I’m gonna return this thing within two weeks.
Unless WWDC brings something major like essentially MacOS on the iPad, I don’t think the 8GB ram version will hold you back at all. I don’t see pushing the CPU & ram any where close to the limits. It is a substantial jump in price from 512 GB to 1TB. On the Nano-texture glass, the fact that they recommend only using the included polishing cloth with it makes me wonder how prone to scratching it may be. I think an aftermarket screen protector may be the safer bet all around. I went for the 256 GB version which matches my current M1 storage & ram config & I think it will do anything I would need it to do. I’m more excited about the brighter tandem OLED display.
Well said about the nano-texture. I was thinking the same thing, that you could just get a matte screen protector that would achieve the same result. You should have a protector anyway, so you wouldn’t essentially be paying twice for glare resistance, & then scratch protection. Also, you’re probably right about the lower specs. Unless one is really pushing their iPad, there’s not much need to pay extra, & get a slight bump in performance. Save some money, & you can put it towards the Magic Keyboard. Sucks what was said about scratches. That’s in part why I like my Logitech combi-touch keyboard, since it’s covered in fabric. But I do want to try something different this time around. Maybe I’ll just get a sleeve that I can put the keyboard on when I’m out and about, & it’ll protect the bottom. I’ll just have to be very careful about scratching the top portion of the keyboard case.
The last point about compatibility is not actually true. The new iPad works only with the new keyboard, that is true, but the keyboard works with older iPads as well. So if you have M1 or M2 IPad Pro, you can buy the new keyboard and use it with it. At least according to the description in notes on apple’s website.
Can i use my older magic keyboard with new 11 inch
ipad pro
No you have to buy the new M4 Magic Keyboard
Can you fold the new Magic Keyboard all the way back so it can be lay flat and be used like a tablet or is it like the old one where it doesn’t go all the way?
Nope. Same like before.
Same design
I purchased my first iPad pro in 2017. My next iPad pro I purchased in 2020 and it was the 2018 model. In 2022 I purchased the m2 iPad pro. I wanted the air but at the time none of them offered more than 256gb of storage. I won't be getting the new M4 iPad pros since there is no reason for me to upgrade but I am curious as to what reviewers will say about it because I am an iPad fan boy.
😂😂😂
I was actually surprised at the price of the 13 inch Air. I was kinda expecting $900 or more. That’s the model I’m gonna get cause I like the bigger screen but don’t need the Pro features. I’ll probably just start off getting the iPad itself then add accessories other than a case, later.
Seems reasonable. I was also surprised the price didn’t increase for 11 air.
I was going to get the M2 Air but not with a 60hz screen. I am full Apple ecosystem but may get the tab S9
@@spede1 The ecosystem is powerful hold.
@@spede1you might as well get 2nd hand M1 or M2 ipad pros
Oh well, after seeing this review and noticing more really weird Apple stuff, will stick with my M2 iPad Pro 2022 with my $135 Magic Keyboard (bought refurbished on Amazon but really like new).
I already ordered it at the keynote...then cancelled it. I reconsidered the following: I will buy it if the iPad finally is "getting loose" as Apple promised. If I can fully replace my MacBook, I will buy the most expensive iPad and sell my MacBook Pro....but maybe Apple doesn't want me to do that. So it all depends on next month's WWDC...
The keyboard is def not worth it, for someone with a macbook air I can just use the keyboard when using universal control . Sad that it doesnt even fold so its difficult to draw or play without having to remove it
I am going with the iPad Air 13, pro is nice and all but I already have a new MacBook Air so I don't care to get the new Magic Keyboard because then I would use my MacBook I paid a lot of money for less and less. Plus I don't do pro features, I have a pro now because I wanted a larger screen but don't use any of the pro features. Nice that my current Magic Keyboard will work with the air so that's one less thing I will be tempted to buy. Would have been nice for apple to put the m3 chip in the air's but oh well.
Damn already bought the 256GB version. I did not know about the 8GB RAM difference. That hurts!
same! found out about it early enough that I cancelled my original order and got the 16gb ram one.
Does it really matter tho performance wise?
Waiting for the next caseless iPhone update! ha
I have something to say, but will wait a bit.
They make a big thing of the ar headset, even to the point they showcased it at the start of their presentation, so its a great disappointment that that removed the capabilities of spatial video off the ipad, as my phone is samsung but I've ordered the new ipad pro and have no way of making Spatial videos for the quest.
Has anyone heard if Apple is planning on having the iPad run off of MacOS?
I never buy the first generation of any product overhaul. I am waiting for the next iPad Pro 13. By then, the price of the magic keyboard will be less.
I was surprised (as someone else commented) about how Apple rigged the compatibility so that those with older M1/M2 can’t even use the new Apple Pencil or Magic Keyvboard and those that already spent £500 (in UK) on them a couple of years ago but want a new iPad have to do it all over again…
Criminal. E waste too…. They haven’t learned in that respect 👀
I’m on my 36th Apple device (counting phones) and I see a macro trend toward more money and less of everything else that has risen to the level of infuriating. One thing is certain and that is that my churn rate is probably half or a third what it used to be for many years. Way to go Apple, you’ve convinced me to stop giving you money.
Cameras disappear without a word, prices skyrocket even as the company is enjoying a major boost from the use of their own silicon, and worst of all, Apple continues to hobble their iOS system to a point I might go looking for alternatives. I can only take so much of this evil empire sh*t.
As cool as it is, I’ll stick with my M1 iPad Pro with 512 GB of storage. All I do is browse the web and watch RUclips videos anyway lol
Yeah I got m2 already and use it to watch and take notes for school don’t see the need for m4 rn.
Could've just gotten a cheap $50 Fire tablet for that LMAO
@@davadhbecause a cheap tablet has 120hz and a good display…
Generally speaking, it is a dismal new machine.
Very disappointed that no accessories you own now you must buy again for this new IPad Pencil?? No buy another!! Case?? No buy another!! You’re 300 dollar keyboard?? No buy another!! Apple sucking money out of the customers pockets
people who will upgrade will most likely sell their ipads with magic keyboard anyway. apple pencil 2 will still work on new ipads
@@PSy84 That’s not the case with everyone and why should they have to sell their older products to afford the new product?? Apple knows people who buy this newer IPad will spend hundreds more on accessories
It’s a different size, interior spec and has new tech. So naturally the accessories you have don’t fit. And this is business, I’m guessing if owned a business, you’d make everything fit forever… Apple isn’t the only company who does this.
@@PSy84no the Apple Pencil 2 does not work on new iPads it is a new magnetic charging mechanism.
@@PSy84Because they moved the camera to the landscape side, the old Apple Pencils will not work with the new devices. Only the new Pencil Pro will work because the charge spot on the device and inside the pencil are in different spots.
Thin is not to good. It will bend.
Can't afford the new magic keyboard.
Can't afford to buy new ipad, with magic keyboard ect.
Apple is stupid expensive.
More of the same garbage from Apple
