I honestly liked this kit. Its detailing was incredible. The weakness is 1) shoulder is easilt popped off (i thicken the joint with marker), 2) fragile waist (easily changed in orientation when slightly finger pushed), 3) heavy backpack. And also lamee gold. I painted it with Gundam Marker Gold GM05. I accidentally broke the joint between left foot and heel. And also, the beam shield is horrible compared to HGCE infinite justice (but considering its age, i think it's okay). A small difference compared to its anime-rendered, its beam cannon mounted on its abdomen, is slightly upward to the chest, which in anime, it's on lower near abdomen
Built it, and lemme tell you something m8, you gotta be careful after you finished building it. Those two railguns on his waist? It’s so weak and brittle. One wrong move, and it will fall off and you would have to glue it there permanently. It’s also super back heavy and an absolute pain to pose in a ground position, god why didn’t they include a stand in the kit. So yeah, just be prepared.
I feel i got lucky with mine, it has hold up decent, nothing broke, the action base adapter holds well and it’s overall one of my favorite gunpla kits.

I remember that one of the earliest things i did once i started collecting Gunpla was to buy all the Real Grades after getting the Z'Gok as my 2nd ever kit. Haven't bought an RG since cos they're expensive (Especially since they're making larger ones now) and i'd rather focus on my HGUC collection.

Thanks to this review right here I hopefully took some preparatory steps while building this to forestall the early RG syndrome. I painted the gold ABS with a gold Gundam marker and the improvement was noticeable immediately in the build of the inner frame. Hopefully that and the matte clear base coat will keep the joints a bit tighter longer but the ankles are definitely too weak to support that backpack. Because of this, I also made sure I had a display stand for it. But on display in the air it looks incredible, particularly when the wings and dragoons are fully expanded. Mecha only opened the wings themselves without popping them open to reveal the gold inner frame. Railguns swivel behind the legs, as well. All-in-all a very detailed kit for such a compact size. I particularly like that with the wings fully expanded it is star of the show but closed and folded back it is [mostly] nondescript. Lots of hands and gimmicks and a bit cheaper than the MGEX grail.
I had to super glue the action base adaptor on this little guy because of how often it fell. This was also my first RG so I did not expect it to be so fragile
You can remove all ugly marks and whiten plastic without painting. Just using sand paper 400 and step up to - 600 - 1,000 - 1,200 grit. I got this kit and this sanding technic help a lot and works well even on the dark color parts too.

Oh man, how was it? My first kit was the RG Sinanju, which I got because I had ordered a couple of kits online, but I wanted to buy something locally to get the experience before they showed up... I knew it was going to be a hand grenade, but I fortunately have like, a decade and a half of fine arts experience, so I wasn't too put of by troubleshooting. (The MG Exia on the other hand... Nevertheless the armor split gimmicks are epic- plus both rifles can extend out their barrels making them function as scoped beam shotgun and the other as beam magnum... Somehow worth having the RG Strike Freedom- I do expect a Real Grade Version 2.0 of these kits that came before RGs Unicorn, Sazabi, Nu, Hi- Nu and Force Impulse- hopefully they come out with a new pair of fixed holding hands rather than relying on the loose RG Advanced MS Frame Hands- and also the complete set of effect parts that goes with their respective units, rather than being sold as limited/ Premium Bandai Spirits Edition Add-ons
This is the kit that started it all for me. The beginning that started the hours of building and raging at stickers, spiraling down the slippery slope of the plastic crack that is called Gunpla.
I bought the clear color version of this from the Gunpla Expo event earlier this year (it looked so silly that I just had to do it) and a couple of the joints have this weird resistance to them. The shoulder rotation--which I notice Mecha didn't bother with, gee I wonder why--is either too stiff or too loose to really work...which I suppose is easy to blame on the ERS inner frame. But then there's the neck. The kit absolutely refuses to look straight ahead. Every time I try to rotate the head, it feels like there's some friction or it's getting caught on something, and if I move the head so it's facing forward it immediately turns slightly to the right all by itself, which is really annoying when trying to get it into a forward shooting pose like the full burst. I've reseated the head a couple times trying to make sure that I have it on right, and sometimes putting the head on facing forward works, but it eventually ends up turning again. There's no visible nub remaining there getting in the way or anything, so I'm not sure if the part was molded wrong or what.
just found out there is like a fan made strategy game called Mobile Suit Gundam Skirmish using the gunpla kits, if you ever want to try something new I'd check it out looks pretty neat
I have the same kit. I hate how I have to tighten the handles of the beam rifles since it keeps flopping down on me. As for the frame the hips and shoulders are bad but you can tighten it with glue. If you plan on buying this be sure to be careful with handling the beam saber hilts, since the connection point for making it into the beam halberd is very fragile, and the waist mounted rail guns, the pegs where both railgun connect to the waist is also very fragile. But if you are just going to build it, pose it, and then shelf it then you'll be fine.
I ended up repainting the gold parts whilst still on the runners, using automotive plastic primer and some different golds for the various parts. Doing this added the reinforcement needed for the joints. However I did have to file back the paint for the sliding mechanisms in the waist mount beam rifles. I didn’t touch the chrome yellow though. That looked awesome as it was.
If the MG 2.0 of this MS is just an upscaled and updated version of the RG, then I am going to be super stoked. Hopefully the kit won't have the same hip joint problem as the Freedom 2.0.
Hey Mecha, how do you save your extra accessories and keep them organized? Would you mind having a quick segment in a video to show us your organization methods- for when you need to review kits you've held on to for awhile?
What about your real grade gundam mk 2??? Took a look at one that I helped my friend build a few years back not using the b parts and going through several moves with little to no touch ups or clean ups on it and to my surprise it was still as solid as when it was first built, articulation was solid too, and it had no problem standing whatsoever not even when widening the stance for the legs. It surprisingly held up far better than the rg astray red frame which was just a mess really quick.
Good timing, p-bandai is doing a re-release of the wings of light. I got a 3rd party flimsy kind and it was worse than building rg sinanju. But getting the dragoons out and the effects on, it's very pretty and blasty.
Yes fragile but I managed to take care mine since 2013. It's a beautiful kit. However to be honest what it lacks is the wing proportions which are too small compared to the anime and the HGCE Strike Freedom beats it because of that. I have both btw
Just found this at my local game shop the other day for like $37 and picked it up not realizing how old it was, dear lord. Still in the box atm but will update when it's done cus why not. lol
They also released the rg strike freedom wings of light "expansion set?" which came with light effect parts (no actual LED just the effect) and and action base with the mounting hardware for the dragoons, using it as a Christmas tree star :)
I gotta make a correction, the first RG that used a partially full innerframe was the RG exia, and the rg 00 raiser took things further with replacing the runners of the exia arms with new arms that you have to build with runner parts, thats why the RG 00 line was way more solid and argubly the best at that time, also i think the Rg stray used parrtially builded inner frame.
While RG Exia has less Advanced MS Joint Parts in its inner frame than say RG Wing Zero EW or other RGs of the same general time, in my experience, RG Exia suffers from these problems even worse than its contemporary RGs. RG Exia is the single least stable kit I own, and was floppy and loose literally immediately upon being built. It looks really great now that it's finished, but OOB with no modifications, Exia is pretty exemplary of everything wrong with early RGs.
for a sec i thought some plastic parts of this Strike Freedom had starry glitter on it. Which honestly would be a fun optional idea, similar to the starry glitter design in certain Gundam Build/Fighter kids
Those gold hands remind me of God Gundam's Godfinger. AND that pose where you had Strike Freedom doing a dab makes it seem even MORE like it. "Ikuzo, Shakunetsu...GODDOFINGAAAAAAAAA!!!"
I have the normal, and mechanical clear, and the Clear one is a whole lot more Handgrenady, but once you get them posed they're fine. The Normal ones hanging from my ceiling, and tho i bump it all the time nothings fallen off.

Thank you i wanted to see the rg strike freedom review before
Aside from how loose every parts in this kit, this is still the best looking strike freedom kit EVER
Metalbuild Strike Freedom says hi.
MBSF trashes RG, both in design and build (well, the latter is expected).
@@geenx8 to be fair the rg thrashes the mb in price while also having the option of being customized since it's a model kit
what's the point of buying a die cast gundam? i don't get it😒
@@haisibanaag1563 is that a model kit? or preassembled
Mine held up super fine and the best representation in bandai model kit form. Hoping for an MG 2.0 tho. It's bound to happen.
Mine did a front flip off my desk as I was building it, so I had to glue some of the parts back together.
Heh, I got this kit for Christmas. I very much love how it looks. But dang tho, I didn’t know about the internal part of it.
just found out there is like a fan made strategy game called Mobile Suit Gundam Skirmish using the gunpla kits, if you ever want to try something new I'd check it out looks pretty neat
I'm quite intrigued how do people tighten the inner frame of Early RGs... Since I'd like to to tighten it up asap, and I'm very new to this hobby
This is my first gunpla. Man, how time flies.
Thank you for reviewing this kits. Nice review. Hope bandai will make mg strike freedom v 2.0
I was literally looking for mecha's review of this yesterday if he had one. Omfg
You gotta review strike freedom gundam hgce next .
with this review I actually want to buy it now it looks so cool
If the MG 2.0 of this MS is just an upscaled and updated version of the RG, then I am going to be super stoked. Hopefully the kit won't have the same hip joint problem as the Freedom 2.0.
This comment aged really weirdly. Not really sure what was trying to be said here, but the MGEX Strike Freedom now exists, which is an awesome kit.
I hope you review the standard RG Exia like the you're reviewing kits now
I hope you do a future review on the RG Zeong
I was actually looking for your review of RG Strike Freedom a few years back... hahahah
RG Mark 2 please. I know you love it so much
Hey Mecha, how do you save your extra accessories and keep them organized? Would you mind having a quick segment in a video to show us your organization methods- for when you need to review kits you've held on to for awhile?
Nice strike freedom gundam. I wish you could add some wings of the skies effect parts for him. Perfect but savage. Rg barbatos will be there soon.
this is the first kit i ever built, early RG syndrome is crazy with strike freedom
Please Mecha review your RG mark II!!!
it's my first RG there, I love building it, but haven't played it at all.
Yes fragile but I managed to take care mine since 2013. It's a beautiful kit. However to be honest what it lacks is the wing proportions which are too small compared to the anime and the HGCE Strike Freedom beats it because of that. I have both btw
i absoluteely adore the gundam seed kits especially the freedom and strike freedom wud rly like to see a 2.0
Just found this at my local game shop the other day for like $37 and picked it up not realizing how old it was, dear lord. Still in the box atm but will update when it's done cus why not. lol
How was it?
Honestly, it's a super solid and beautiful kit to build. The only issue is the wings will start to droop with time as the joints age@@sushiatsushi1538
Ily 🥰 just picked up a Wing Gundam ver Ka earlier
Yo, props for including the decals on this one. I feel like they're so much more worth it on the Real Grades.
would love to see the MG and PG reviews of the strike freedom
They also released the rg strike freedom wings of light "expansion set?" which came with light effect parts (no actual LED just the effect) and and action base with the mounting hardware for the dragoons, using it as a Christmas tree star :)
yeah same with wol effect parts for destiny
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU TO DO THIS VIDEO!!
my friend you forgot all the wings gimmicks the navy blue opens and de light blue extends from the gold part
I wonder if the RG Wing Gundam Zero EW build is like that too.
Nope, it has newer inner frame
Nah its starting yo be good
Good 'cause I just got mine this week. 😅
@wurstbrotmitbutter nah not for me
for a sec i thought some plastic parts of this Strike Freedom had starry glitter on it. Which honestly would be a fun optional idea, similar to the starry glitter design in certain Gundam Build/Fighter kids
Those gold hands remind me of God Gundam's Godfinger. AND that pose where you had Strike Freedom doing a dab makes it seem even MORE like it. "Ikuzo, Shakunetsu...GODDOFINGAAAAAAAAA!!!"
actually the Master Grade-like frame that replacing the pre-molded RG frames already existed before the Unicorn in form of the Tallgeese.
I have the normal, and mechanical clear, and the Clear one is a whole lot more Handgrenady, but once you get them posed they're fine. The Normal ones hanging from my ceiling, and tho i bump it all the time nothings fallen off.
The detailing of RG strike freedom is absolutely amazing but HGCE Strike freedom holds up WAAY BETTER
