This arrangement is genius. It's brilliant how they use particular methods to sound like way more than just 5 players- kinda like a barber shop quartet
I have played this...buckle up, it asks for every skill you have. I love the grin on the 1st trumpeters face at 2:45 or so when they pick up the tempo after he starts the fugue. It's cool to hear it played again. It was the first tune I ever heard them play on the original album in the 70's. And it just knocked me out.
It's sad to look at this. After watching the Live in Atlanta videos (with them being so young), and then seeing Chuck and Gene up there in their oldies, it jerks a tear. Long live CanBrass!
highly recommended brass band to listen to. my university trumpet ensemble is performing this song and hearing these guys do it influenced how hard we will work to do it
I wish you all would stop complaining about the last chord and use/non use of vibrato and just appreciate it for what it is, which is another nice arrangement of a great piece. Unless you know if this was at the beginning or end of a long concert where chops were going downhill and thus pitch goes too, or maybe they weren't on their game...just stop talking. About vibrato, this is their interpretation of the piece, so deal with it. Play it your way when you do it. That's the beauty of music.
Such wonderful talent. Although Chuck the tuba guy is now the only original member, a recent live performance I attended proved this group is still at the top.
Nelson Tan unfortunately the horn player just wasn't that loud in the earlier Canadian brass days. The guy on Basin Street is absolutely fantastic though!
Jeff Nelson is my favorite Canadian Brass French Horn player of all time.... He can do things with that horn I did not know could be done......and I've known some mighty fine French Horn players. Stunning...
Bravo Trombone-The whole thing is brilliantly and expertly done, but I know how hard it is for a trombone player to maintain tone pitch and power at speed, Bravo all.!! & thanks for letting us share it you guys.
Like playing the piccolo trumpet solo on Penny Lane, being able to handle the trumpet parts of this arrangement has become a rite of passage for trumpeters aspiring to the highest levels of their craft. We saw the Canadian Brass in their first performance with Ryan Anthony (not the performance in this video) and this piece confirmed that he was a very worthy successor to Fred Mills.
You have never listened to The Canadian Brass before then. I have heard just about every incarnation of the group since 1978 and that's a brass thing they do.
Isso é mágico... muito lindo. Lamento apenas o fato desse tipo de musica não ter o valor que lhe é devido aqui no Brasil. Isso é cultura! Isso sim é música.
Just heard/saw Canadian Brass play this piece this evening in Wheaton, IL. Only the tuba player was the same as this performance. The performance on RUclips was better.
Wonderful rendition, Bach most certainly would approve. The major chord at the end threw me off, but it was phenomenal. Gave me shivers. I still like it better on organ though :P
@chabooga to tell you the truth, the instrument for which this piece was designed, the Wurlitzer Pipe organ, with most of the stops pulled, is WAY more powerful than 1,000 brass instruments all together. 30,000 watt sound systems struggle to replicate the sound of the 64-feet long pipes of the grand wurlitzer.
Just started learning trumpet. My 5th instrument :) and I love this video so much, gives me something to strive for haha. And as a violinist as well, I definitely love this haha
What is the deal with the nice suits and the white tennis shoes? While i may disagree with what Canadians must consider high fashion I do find these to be a top notch group of player. Very impressive performance.
evrybody will agree that canadian brass has awesome players but i have to say that such pieces , if played on brass sound just even more impressive in bigger essembles

Well, it could be worse, like Hawaiian shirts. As music itself, it's not a matter of right or wrong, but just of taste (or the lack of it). With eyes closed, nothing to complain, I love their Art of the Fugue CD.
This arrangement is genius. It's brilliant how they use particular methods to sound like way more than just 5 players- kinda like a barber shop quartet
I really thought this was at least ten people when I had only listened to it.
They are simply the best brass quintet to grace our ears. Always have been, and probably will be.
This is my favorite version of this song. There is nothing more powerful than the sound of brass.
jeez these guys never cease to amaze me...

Do you know why they smiled?
to say " Thank You" is not adequate this is numerous hours of hard work playing every day,
Incredible performance Canadian Brass!!!!!!
It's sad to look at this. After watching the Live in Atlanta videos (with them being so young), and then seeing Chuck and Gene up there in their oldies, it jerks a tear. Long live CanBrass!
absolutely flawless.

my teacher introduced me to canadian brass and i can't get enough of how awesome the sound
highly recommended brass band to listen to. my university trumpet ensemble is performing this song and hearing these guys do it influenced how hard we will work to do it
This might be one of the coolest versions of this song I've ever heard. Sooooo good.

It's simply amazing what these men can do with so few voices.
loving the circular breathing at 2:08, what a champ!
i love the beautiful french horn!!!!
Incredible live performance of that piece!
best...rendition...ever!
trumpet player all the way.
Such wonderful talent. Although Chuck the tuba guy is now the only original member, a recent live performance I attended proved this group is still at the top.
Man those guys are incredible...how could you dislike this?
My favorite Canadian Brass line-up :-)
thank you Canadian brass for publishing this piece because me and my friends are playing this for the las Vegas solo and ensemble next year
Beautiful
I meant mr. Anthony is the principal trumpet of the Dallas symphony, Canadian Brass you are awesome
Fantastic.
Awesome Selection. Played by one of the best Brass Quintets. Very impressive arrangement.
JUST GREAT
One of my favorite renditions of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor!
The horn player needed to be louder however.
Nelson Tan unfortunately the horn player just wasn't that loud in the earlier Canadian brass days. The guy on Basin Street is absolutely fantastic though!
This is GREAT !
awesome!!!! I can listen to this all day!
Amazing players.
Jeff Nelson is my favorite Canadian Brass French Horn player of all time.... He can do things with that horn I did not know could be done......and I've known some mighty fine French Horn players. Stunning...
agreed... nelsen is an inspirational talent and also one of the greatest teachers if you ask me. him or vermuellen, but nelsen is less of an ass ;)
I'm seeing them this weekend!
i had the pleasure of hearing this, and many other pieces, played in concert. You guys are very entertaining
That little horn part around 1:00 is gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.
@WW2obsession Charles Daellenbach uses the YCB-621 C tuba. It's a really fun horn to play!
Tom Hanks on trumpet.
+SpeedyNeutrino172 Voilà !!
+SpeedyNeutrino172 Hahahahaha literally first thing I thought.
lol his second wish from the "Zoltar" machine was for the ability to play a musical instrument.

Bravo Trombone-The whole thing is brilliantly and expertly done, but I know how hard it is for a trombone player to maintain tone pitch and power at speed, Bravo all.!! & thanks for letting us share it you guys.

bravooooooooooo.....hope to have you at the Italian Brass week some time.........
ciaooooooo
Ihr beide seid ein Superteam 😀😇 ❤🎉,
Herzliche Grüße aus Deutschland !❤
@Nintendoman851 It's called a Picardy 3rd when there's a major chord at the end of a piece in minor. It's a common baroque technique.
Great performance. Now mr. Anthony is the principal trumpet of the Dallas Symhonybzorchestra!
Isso é mágico... muito lindo. Lamento apenas o fato desse tipo de musica não ter o valor que lhe é devido aqui no Brasil. Isso é cultura! Isso sim é música.
That horn player is out of this world.
@MusicBeSweetYo i am a woodwind player and i loved it.
the 10 dislikes to this were just mad jealous of mad skills. they can't help it that they're not that awesome
Nothing like the brass sound---10X better than organ's!!
it´s really great to read, thaks people...
@chabooga search for bach toccata and fugue in d minor 214 ranks here on youtube and play the first video....that is MY favorite version....
Astounding.
The only men alive who can get away with wearing black shirts, black pants, and white shoes.

Amazing!
Awesome!

@MusicBeSweetYo I loved it, and I play the frikkin' oboe and piano.

hypnotizing

Good luck! Every instrument you add is one more voice that you have to express yourself with. Be well and God bless my friend!

I had no idea Tom Hanks could play the trumpet!

I like it ❤
@kptbone1 I think it's their way of showing a sense of humour. It comes out more in some of their other videos.
8:05 Love that horn
i cant believe that guy just did that part on a trumpet...lungs
What is the deal with the nice suits and the white tennis shoes? While i may disagree with what canadians must consider high fashion I do find these to be a top notch group of player. Very impressive performance.
In Canada they ALWAYS wear white tennis shoes while performing classical pieces. It's their tradition.
Sincerely,
An American Guy
Michael Carrillo haha

@7r0j4nm4n its called a pickety third, a technique commonly used by bach to end on a "happy ending"
YES that last chord is in tune in this version!
すげー
Yes, Tom is a very versatile actor. Next year he plans to participate in the Tour de France.
