    Nice quick compare. I really love the little " If being shot at, pick ASH to stand behind ! " at the bottom of the closing screen...lmao. If that .22 Mag round almost made it through that 1 inch Ash, a breast bone, ribs or skull bone has very little chance of stopping it.

    A very rare test. I was looking for something like that for a very long time. Thanks a lot.
    A massive entrance door made of oak or ash is almost bullet proof - at least for handguns. I shot once a piece of dry oak from a meter distance with a 38 snubnose, the lead bullet didn't even get in.

      @bobcatforever3485  4 года назад +3

      Vites, Thanks for viewing and commenting. I agree with you, a heavy door of Oak or Ash would likely stop most ordinary handguns. If I get the opportunity, I will check out what your did with the .38. I just recently got my hands on a .38 Spl/.357 mag revolver and would like to try that out for penetration. Thanks again and take care.

    Many underestimate the 22L. that caliber used to feed many families back in the day with the old model 67 riffle that fired three different 22 cartridges. great all purpose round when you hit where you aim

    Amazing how different types of wood can resist penetration much better than others. Pine is probably the softest and easiest to penetrate (not counting balsa wood 😬). Laminated plywood is really tough too.

      I can land 4-5 rounds on a body before they'll hear the crack of the first round.

    If you are going to to do a penetrations test, you should compare apples to apples. The 380 and the 9mm were FMJ but the 22 mag was a hollow point. Do that again with a Fiochi 22 mag FMJ. I did 5 brands of 22 Mag and the Fiochi 22 Mag FMJ out performed all the others that were hollow point and even Hornady V max. It went through 5 layers of 5/8" maple plywood and stuck in the 6th. the hollow points blow up and do damage that way but the FMJ pushes through.

    For some reason you don´t use pine-blades or fir-blades. This ash seems to be a lot harder to penetrate than pine. Once I shot 50 cal. desert eagle slug to pine-blades from distance of 17 feets. This big slug penetrated around 14 inches pine wood before it stopped. So penetration depends. Greetings from Finland. Rudi Rafael

    Very good comparison, interesting. However, barrel length matters and could have been the same for equal comparison. Your Heritage Arms Rough Rider 6.5 allowed the 22 cartridges to develop higher velocity/energy than the shorter barrel semi autos. Ash might be comparable to bone in hardness. I don't think I would want to use any of these against a bear skull. I wonder if white pine might have been a better standin for soft tissue. Just some thoughts.

    • @bobcatforever3485
      @bobcatforever3485  2 года назад

      Mark. Thanks. I agree that barrel length dose make a pretty big difference. In the case of my Heritage, it is an odd ball and is slower that other shorter barreled guns. That is because of the cylinder/barrel gap on my Heritage is 0.007" and should be about 0.004" so it leaks a lot of energy. If interested video attached: ruclips.net/video/BnGsYPR2O_g/видео.html

    Very informative, please do an energy delivered on target when the bullet passed through vs staying in the target, the Energy=.5 mass x (velocity) squared doesn't give a true impact upon target when so much of the heavier round passes through. The other thing about the 9mm and above is the danger of the round passing trough your target and any obstructions behind them and causing unintended ummm issues, I thing that's an overlooked aspect of the higher calibers.

    I have seen folks killed with .22 .22 mag, .380 and nine millimeter.
    The folks killed with .22 lr or mag were shot until the firearm was empty when it was a hand gun. I did have a guy shot three times in the head with .22 long rifle and killed with a rifle at almost contact range.
    Two were skip rounds and one was an actual penetration.
    Same with a .380. The firearms were emptied every time.
    9 mm three round kills are not uncommon if they are larger firearms. But if they are little hide out guns folks empty them at close range.
    Now .38 .357 and .44 special short barrel belly revolvers?
    It is rare they get emptied in close quarters.
    I don’t know why. Maybe it is the noise, recoil and the instant effect the rounds had on the target.
    Or maybe it is the folks carrying the little guns understand the trade off and are geared up for it.
    Or maybe it is revolver fire control.
    Either way it is just information.

      Chris, First Thanks For Viewing. And commenting. I just looked up some chronograph data I have and : The Heritage = 871 fps (100);
      Mossberg 715T rifle = 1182 fps (135); Escort rifle (bolt action and a bit longer barrel) = 1249 fps (143). This was with CCI Mini Mags. The rifle rounds should hit a bit harder for sure. Thanks again and stay safe. PS: This video has both handgun and rifle shooting .22 LR and some other guns also: ruclips.net/video/jG-GdQf7Xcg/видео.html

      @Bruce Holcomb Again I agree with you. A while back I did come chronograph testing on some CCI Mini Mag ammo: Heritage revolver 6" = 871 fps, same ammo thru my Escort bolt action rifle (a little longer than a Ruger 10/22) = 1249 fps. Based on some other data, I think the Heritage runs about 50 fps slower than a normal simi-auto .22 LR. Thanks again and stay safe.

    40 yrs ago shot a CCI stinger 22LR and a 380 into phone books at 15 feet. Penetrated equally but the 22 became a flying pancake.

      David, thanks for viewing and commenting. Hi Points, pretty cheap guns, but the ones I have seem to run well. Also the Heritage is really fun to shoot and it hits what you point it at. Thanks again, and take care.

    I use the Winchester mini mag jacketed hollow point in the Heritage six shooter. Wonder if the hollow point would make it through and leave a bigger exit hole. Also looked like you were using a Hi Point 380. I wonder if the Hi Point semis are as bad as lots say. I know they are heavy, blow back design. I own the Hi Point 995TS 9mm carbine and it is a great rifle, has never had a problem and seems to be getting great reviews. Problem with the pistols tho is that the prices for a Ruger and a Taurus are so close I never took a chance. Have a Ruger 380 and the Taurus 709 Slim for carries.

      Thanks for viewing and for your comment. Both the .380 and 9 mm were Hi Points. They have run well for me. Only issue I have had was with the mag holding the bullets to flat and the slide would not pick up (especially the first round). I bent the ears of the mag open just a bit and fixed that problem. I bought my HP's on sale for $129 and $139 several years back when they were like $100 cheaper than most other guns. I also have a 709 and a HP 995 (fun to shoot) in several of my videos. Here is some info on FMJ vs Hollow Points: ruclips.net/video/C_z9fitgUCU/видео.html Thanks again.

    Glad I picked a 9mm over a .380. Still, I wouldn't want to be on the business end of a .380 either.

      Steve, Thanks for viewing and for your comment. I whole heartedly agree with you. I carry a 9mm, but still would not want to be looking down the barrel of a .380. Thanks again and take care.

      James, Thanks For Viewing. I agree with you, I also have the HP 995 carbine (which is just plain fun to shoot and has run well for me). Any issue I have had with the HP's was caused by the Mags. A pair of pliers and it's all fixed. Thanks again and take care.

      Jeffrey. Thanks for viewing and commenting. I agree, that would have been good and even a .357 Mag. But back then I didn't have a gun that would shoot those. I do now and I think I may still have some rough sawn ash. I'm a bit older now so not sure I would have the ability or desire to do that again. I can shoot the guns, but not sure I would want to prepare the wood. I be turning 80 in October, I'm more or less on break these days! Only doing minor shooting. Thanks so much again and take care.
