      Hey mate, I have a RHD Land Cruiser and was wondering if you ever saw a RHD vehicle in Saudi Arabia ? I wanted to go through your country after Iran but I have been warned about getting denied entry because RHD are forbidden in Saudi Arabia. Have you ever seen foreigners driving through the country and if so, any RHD ? Thank you

    • @MyLifeinAfrica

      hey man, I'm not in Saudi Arabia, I'm far down south in South Africa, but here I have seen many many RHD vehicles, it wouldn't be an issue if you brought it here...

    Hey I just saw the donkey fly by near the Hugenote toll gate. It was 11:30 3 January 2021.
    The funny thing is I told my Dad who ever sees a troopy first gets 100 points. Few minutes later the donkey whizzes past our 76. 😀

    That's an incredible set-up but the two things I loved the most was those canvas organisers on the back door windows and that small slide table👍
    Don't know about the awning. It looks too cumbersome and heavy.
    Thanks for sharing👌

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Michael, the rear door storage is a complete win, we've actually just upgraded them to a new version. The awning we found was a bit much and are changing that too. It was awesome with the amount of shade it gave but a little tough to setup and pack up alone.
      Keep an eye on the channel, another rig walk around has to be done soon...

    Great walkaround. The water tank looks like 50L or so. How much water do you carry when on a trip. Where we are we can regularly get river water for things like washing up and showers but in Southern Africa water usage must be more critical - do you have any insights on average usage and how you mange it on trips?

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  4 года назад

      Hi Kavita, the tank is a 50ltr, you are correct! The average usage will depend on the trip length, the menu plan for the trip etc etc, it's hard to give an average but if i had to guess you could get away with about 5ltrs a day. There are not many rivers i would trust to fill from, not to mention the fact that our rivers have predators in them and if they don't the nasty in the water will get you.

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  4 года назад +1

      Hi Izak, thanks so much for the comments, I feel your pain with fuel, something we share! The canvas pouches are attached with A. Velcro to the window and B. Riveted to the doorframe, only after 6 years is the velcro starting to slip, I plan to replace on 2021 anyway with a new colour scheme, so works out well...

    • @Gothanza1
      @Gothanza1 4 года назад

      @@MyLifeinAfrica thanks for the reply. Yes fuel, the biggest expense when you plan a trip. But if you want the horses to run , you need to feed them. Another question....why did you choose the cyrix combined over a solenoid? I’m busy overhauling my dual battery system to victron but so far the start up charge was the part I thought about the least. So it’s interesting to see someone using a combined over a solenoid or a dc to dc charger (but you already have the victron
      Mppt so that would be overkill, but then there is the 100% charge capacity)

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  4 года назад +1

      @@Gothanza1 it's pretty simple really, so the cyrix charges both ways, so once my auxiliary is full the charge is then sent to my crank battery until full. So if I wake up on the morning and can't start my vehicle I wait an hour or 2 and it has been charged. The other benefit is the amp or passes to the batteries when driving, they have the 170Amph and the 220Amph, so depending on your alternator will depend on what you should get. I have the 220 and well it pumps my batteries when driving...

    Hi Roland, great walkaround, just watched again since seeing it when first posted. Still amazed you're just under the GVM...it looks so much heavier with all the kit, especially with 80kg of extra fuel on the roof...I'm assuming they were full? I got weighed on a trip and was 3520kg. I've since reduced weight quite a bit by getting rid of unnecessary kit.

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Vince, there really isn't much in the vehicle to be honest. Fuel though is not on a 1 to 1 ratio so the 80ltrs will be a bit less than 80kgs. They weren't full though at the time I weighed the vehicle. I had 1 tank full, the other empty and no one in the donkey at all, but with all the rest of the regular kit on him. With 2 people and all full I would definitely be over but not by much. I've actually been through my kit quite a bit and there is not much that I can actually remove.

    • @oceansoverland
      @oceansoverland 3 года назад

      @@MyLifeinAfrica Ah, OK that makes sense. We all go through our kit reducing it where necessary but I'm at bare minimum now. • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  3 года назад

      Hi Kreiger, we made neither of them ourselves, you can however order both from our suppliers, 4x4 Assist does the canvas bags and other things and All in 4x4 does the tire tables, let me know if you want contact details?

    Beautiful rig! What’s the rationale for using the RTT as opposed to a pop-up roof conversion? I’ve always thought the primary advantage of a troopy is the ability to create a live-in vehicle with the conversion. Particularly with the shortage of troopies in SA, I’d think it would be more cost effective to get a 76 or 79 if one didn’t want to chop the roof.

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  4 года назад

      Well the big thing in SA is cost, at 100k +/- for a roof conversion it's all definitely cheaper doing the RTT compared to a full conversion. Not to say we are not looking at it, but right now it doesn't make sense. Currently I need a 4 person sleeper, the roof conversion would not provide this for me. Something once the young ones are on their own path for sure though...I hope that makes sense 😎

    • @MyLifeinAfrica
      @MyLifeinAfrica  3 года назад +1

      Hi Willie, it's a 1Hz, 4.2 straight 6, have an aftermarket turbo that's about the only mod to the engine, a low pressure turbo though so great for maintaining speed and that's about it hahahaha
