Zack, it would be cool if you did a project where the repaired phone could be made waterproof again. Like testing out different adhesives and then testing the repaired phones in water. I want to replace a home button on my S7E but the fact that it won't be waterproof afertwards deters me from doing that. Hope you see this. Love your vids.
Zack you love Legos man, that's your favorite term. Thanks for the tear-down, I watch all of your videos, entertaining and hart wrenching at the same time.
To quote Zach in this video; "With a more rigid frame, this feature probably wouldn't work". HTC absolutely can make strong phones, and the phone you have now is probably weaker than the HTC 10. But with the U11, they had to make it so the frame flexes enough to allow the pressure sensor to work. It's either give it a feature which no one else has, or make it pass Zach's intentional bend test. I prefer the do-anything Edge Sense far more than a one-use-only Bixby button that gets in the way. I will be getting the U11, but I won't be trying to fold it ;)
I don't understand the concern people have about the bend test. Take care of your $600+ miniaturized computer that fits in your pocket. The only time the bend test would matter would be if you sit on the phone constantly, which again, take care of that expensive device and don't sit on it. I've had my 11 since last thursday and it's been a fantastic device. Super fast, feels great, looks amazing. I hope you enjoy yours also!
Yeah, I think there's really no concern about bending in real life as long as you don't sit on your phone. I have the Xiaomi Mi5, which Jerry broke in half like a little stick, but I have no problems with it.
I have the S8 and have to say the Bixby button is annoying as it can't be remapped (without root). My HTC 10 which I passed to a family member is solid, and IMO one of the best HTC's I ever had. Think you will like the 11, it wasn't out before i got the S8.
I personally didn't like those animated arrows that much, they're a little too big, if they would be thinner, or maybe if they were of some darker or more contrasting color, like your old red ones, I'd like them better. Anyway, good video as always, keep up the good work.
Zac's favorite things to talk about: -How much he love the headphone jack -How much he love the optical image stabilization -The lovely sound of metal -Snapping things like a little Lego -Roasting apple
I'll answer this question for him: No. With all the variations between models (at least with android) you could NOT build a phone using a motherboard from samsung, a camera from Sony, a body from LG, etc. Unless you were to try to make a phone using parts from one model, or making an iphone.
Yonatan Avhar It's possible, but tough. the paint is usually on the glass which sits over the LCD and frame. You'd have to take a lot off, and even then, You'd be looking at a plastic frame
Screen scratches super easy actually. I got my U11 day before launch (pre-order). And my original I only had 10 days before my rear seal/gasket started coming out between the rear glass and frame. All on its own. My replacement (was a pain in the ass to get) was brand new thankfully. So upside is I have 2 sets of EVERYTHING that comes in the box. Except 2 phones of course. Now back to easily scratched screen. I originally had it screen protected with IQ Shield. But it started peeling off after 2 weeks near the bottom. Got a crap ton of dust. So I couldn't reinstall it. But....it went on perfectly. Just think my evocel case (both off Amazon) just doesn't work to well with it. Although the IQ sheild comes with lifetime warranty, I haven't ordered a new one yet. My phone had only been in empty pockets, or on its back. Whether on a table or charging on carpeted floor bedside. Within one week, my screen is riddled in micro scratches. Not easly visible unless you hold it to the light a certain way. But they are not tiny. Got one swirl like one on the bottom right corner (maybe from digging something into it while playing a game), another "J" shaped directly in the middle. One small but deep enough to feel with a finger nail near the home button. And many others. That said. A screen protector is a must on one of these. Otherwise, this phone is bad ass. And I normally keep my phones as nice as possible for as long as possible. Just sucks ass that 3 weeks in, I got scratches all over my screen. So resale took a huge hit right off the bat. Another thing. I don't think htc planned on selling so many so fast. As they had ZERO parts for them till end if August early September. And since the hurricane destroyed one of their factories in Texas. Repair time has taken months for most htc owners. Great phones, not big on aftermarket support. And if you didn't know. Htc made the first ever Android smartphone. The HTC Dream/Tmobile G1. In 2008. They also make the google pixels as well. Before I forget. Battery life is insane on this phone, for the size of battety it has. Highest I've seen personally with mine was 14hrs 38mins off charge, 9hrs 47mins of it was SOT (ALL via Sprint Network, no Wi-Fi). So no headphone Jack isn't all that big a deal really. Headphones it comes with are pretty decent as well.
Bad sales doesnt mean this company needs help. Yeah loss year after year is sth disappointing but u11 begs to differ. Its really almost in par with the Galaxies this year which may eventually see the sign of hTc mobile division growth again. The sales number really needs help tho.
If you like: Little Legos, forgetting to pull out your SIM card tray, dissed to apple, and the sound of a razor blade on cold hard aluminum... Welcome to Jerry Rig Everything!!
4:51 "Huge thumbs up to HTC for trying something new, stepping out of the same rectangular box that most cellphone stuck in." You usually burn Samsung and Apple in your other videos, but I guess Sony also get burned in this one. Hahahaa
New JerryRigEverything video! Only 16 views! *clicks on it* *then watching the video* *refreshes page after watching the video* OMG?! 2185 views already?! Oh god being Zack must be great
Maybe you could glue the backplate permanently to the frame that would of course make it hard to repair after that. But that wouldn't be to bad I guess. It was already repaired once so if you use two component glue you could trust your phone again around water. I would love to see a video testing the durability after gluing and a waterproof test. 😃
As for the graphics, I think long skinny arrows are more effective than multiple fat chevrons. They cover too much of the underlying picture. As well, skinny arrows are easier to point out several things right next to each other on a device. Just my two cents. Thanks for your cool videos.
It still is a very good handset..I hope you can replace the display and get it working again, but I see that accommodating the Edge Sense feature is what made the construction weak, and therefore, fail the bend test... Although I still wouldn't attempt a tear-down myself, I can see that the U11 isn't as much of a nightmare to disassemble as the HTC 10 is...
i had heard somewhere that HTC is collaborating with NOKIA and SAMSUNG to make "JERRY" proof phones and they made a new lab in their research department :- "TheJerryCheck Approving Centre" 😂😂😂
I was able to remove the pressure sensors by heating the sensor locating up to 390°C at an airflow of 40 with a Quick 861DW for about 1.5 to 2 min. I would then gently slide curved tweezers between the case housing and top pcb of the sensors and then pull gently while working the tweezers forward ensuring that I wasn't putting stress on the bend points too much. I would continue to heat and pull I successfully changed both sides and put them on new replacement screen and they both work. Its possible but it's not easy.
2 things that jerry love - lego and OIS(optical image stabilization)
And roasting Apple.
#notmyrodrick that too in the most savage way 😁
And metal scratching
Jose Andres Barrios and headphones jacks
Rishikesh Akilanam oh! I didn't knew that.haha I just guessed it 😃
This guys videos are just amazing, they're not rushed not quickly slapped together like most youtubers do with their videos. Great work man

Pajaat good idea

Pajaat Thatd a good idea he madr the clear galaxy s8. He can figure out a way to make it water proof again. If it is possible.
And maybe how to make a non water resistant phone water resistant, so you could do it to flagships like the honor 9
His an
Perhaps I'm one of few who enjoy your tear downs more than durability tests.
7:01 I won't ignore this basic arrow Zach.
you explain everything so well in all your repairs
I really like this phone, especially the solar red color
Zack you love Legos man, that's your favorite term. Thanks for the tear-down, I watch all of your videos, entertaining and hart wrenching at the same time.

Sweet, the clear back cover is plausible on the phone. Always appreciate your content Jerry !

I want it so bad but I'm afraid I can probably buy it next year and maybe it's old then
Blue Rays it's okay if a phone is a year old. I'm still using the HTC 10 after over a year and it still runs great
Yeah, I think there's really no concern about bending in real life as long as you don't sit on your phone. I have the Xiaomi Mi5, which Jerry broke in half like a little stick, but I have no problems with it.

Waterproof and battery life thank you!
Can you try to build a new mobile by using old parts please
syam megha good idea
I agree

Literally not possible unless you want to rebuild the same phone.
xBane_ U can, but u have to make ur own custom rom. And u need drivers for those things, which is pointless and waste of time
Finally I've been waiting for this video.
RIP red arrow...
I Looooooooove those new Arrows

Yonatan Avhar It's possible, but tough. the paint is usually on the glass which sits over the LCD and frame. You'd have to take a lot off, and even then, You'd be looking at a plastic frame

Htc u11 best phone in 2017 like if you agree
it's kind of the best phone except the bluetooth 4.2, duo camera and the fail in previous video xd
Nobody has BT 5.0 yet, no not even the s8.
lol you are right, just checked some details on internet, s8 only has a rubbish version of Bluetooth 5
atl3630 WRONG.
S8, Xiaomi Mi 6 etc... have bluethoot 5.0.
Waleed Ali nope. it breaks easily when bent.
Zach, in next life you can be stand up comedian. You are funny (and look, it's good as new). 😂😂😂
Autopsy 😂
Much better internal design than the htc 10 finally!
I love your videos cuz you have captions
Lego needs to sponsor these videos.
you sure do know how to slide those sponsors in the video real smooth when you're talking
Wow, that internal design looks A LOT cleaner than the 10.

Thats tough lol
Good job agent 47,
The money has been wired to your account
Great, excellent work.
Why can't phone companies invent waterproof devices with a user-removable battery? It definitely can be done.
You're the Master of *smartphone autopsy*, -- as far as I know.-- ;)
well thanks for the guideline
Love my HTC u11
Extremely smooth advertising ahahhaahahha
nice :D
it hurt so much seeing you, seemingly destroy this phone, i was actually impressed by its water resistant quality and side squeeze feature
Who just waits for him to roast some phone company
Hi Zack....Big fan of your work.. Could you please Rig.. Lenovo P2.. I'm sure many are waiting for it
