    One time in regular BattleTech I was running a Preta, a medium mech with 8 improved jump jets making it very hard to hit. I jumped onto a building to get a good angle of attack on an enemy... and he shot the building instead, doing enough damage it couldn't support my weight and sent me falling 3 levels into rubble...

    Clan Mech, "!"

  • @JTMC93
    @JTMC93 Год назад +8

    Mad Cat is the Inner Sphere designation. Timberwolf is the Clan name. The Inner Sphere designation came from the target recognition software would constantly flip between Marauder and Catapult when trying to identify the Clan mech. Stealth also covers ECM so most likely the Atlas has Electronic Warfare equipment.

    8:09 Thanks for explaining that rule about the CF range. The Alpha Strike Manual doesn't actually say anywhere that this is a thing you and your opponent decide. I was trying to do internet searchs to find out what CF range actually meant but nothign came up for it (something i am fidning a lot with Battletech rules that are optional!). And the fact its on the table made it feel like it should be a thing thats explained so i'm glad i got it from here.
    Now i'm wondering where you got it from? Is it actually explained somewhere that its a rule you and your oppenent decide on?
    EDIT AH i found it... its actually in the Alpha strike boxes manual you are using. Theres a paragraph that specifically explains it haha. This paragraph includes the line "players are free to assign whatever values work for thier scenarios" etc. This entire paragraph is missing from the Commanders edition of the Alpha Strike rules haha.

    I get that people have always liked Classic Battletech and it's hexmaps, but man, open tabletops and 3D buildings add so much more. Add in the variable damage alternate rules (so Light mechs especially have a change to be damaged without just completely evaporating in one shot- because that's just boring-) and THIS is how I want to play Battletech.

    • @colbyboucher6391
      @colbyboucher6391 Год назад

      I mean, you CAN play Classic without hex maps. It's essentially the same movement rules as Alpha Strike.

    So when it comes to force building, the requirements round up. So 3/5 mechs in a star have to be Size3 (or in classic case Heavy) and up.
    However your mates Lance actually fulfills the requirements of a medium star (it’s a battle Lance however the only requirements are that 50% of the units have to be size 2)
    Same goes for Light Stars and Heavy Stars.
    They all give the same bonus too.
    Tho they way we play it is that while all it says is that 50% of the units have to be “this” to gain the bonus, we also include the “have to be of this type and have one of this type” specifications too as we felt it just made it way to easy to make battle lances - which is kind of true to lore as they are extremely easy and common to make.

    Ash, why did you split your forces like that? I have yet to get my first game in after a 35-year hiatus, so I'm no expert. But I am curious. Since their individual models have fire superiority, it suggests you should try to defeat in detail.

    • @lorcannagle

      The Annihilator has the same ground movement profile but no jump jets, the Ares is also a 2/3, but it pays fewer MPs to enter woods (because it's a superheavy) or change facing (because it's a tripod) so is faster overall.
      If you include silly stuff like the April Fool's day jokes, then the PXH-99 Phoenix Hawk from XTRO: Caveat Emptor wins. It moves 0/1/2 thanks to a rating 45 engine and combination of hardened and modular armour

      In normal play, you shoot all damage with one roll (hence "Alpha Strike"). However, in the rules book there is an optional rule to roll for damage individually one point at a time. So, you can do it both ways.
