AP holds the record for the most 50+ yard Rushing TDs in the NFL, and i think i know why. he, as a physical freak who had amazing power, speed, and elusiveness was excellent at avoiding or breaking the first tackle, and then outrunning anyone else. the thing is, the vikings almost always had a terrible passing attack barring 2009 (AP's worst full year), so opposing teams consistently stacked the box (had 8+ defenders lined up to stuff rushing plays), But Adrian would break or shake the first tackle, and then everyone else was too close to get an angle on him, but too far to catch him with those rocket boosters he called legs. all he had to do was beat a safety that was 10-15 yards down field, and it was a TD. and he did it consistently. any game without at least one massive run was unusual. man i miss him, but we all get old eventually. he is still a top 10 back, but he isn't super-human anymore.
Finally someone who agrees with me. I always bring up in that arguement what does Walter Payton do better than Peterson? He is faster, more agile, quicker, bigger and stronger than W.P. And tackles today are harder to run through than they were then, and I know you could hit harder then, but an average hit now is way harder to go through then when sweetness played.
