passing an absolutely overflowing BBQ grill. This is one area where Northern Thailand just SHINES!

This resturant you can't miss at Mae-Sariang. I know Mark go before too. This is one of my favorite local northern thai food res. Everything is so good and I love Mae-Sariang so much . It beautful place there.

Wow! The barrels cut in half to cook is genius. My dad used to cook over charcoal. Love the flavor it gives the meat. Miss it so much. I have never had sticky rice or cane sugar juice. Sausage looks incredible. Hubby even said Wow while watching the video. Love how you save bites for Li. We are eating leftover hamburger gravy, mashed potatoes, biscuits, sweet potatoes with butter brown sugar cinnamon, and greens while watching your video. Thank you for teaching us words and thank you for the great video. Li is so funny at the end.
Most of bbq stands in my country are made from drums cut up.

Hi Joel and Li ❤️. Lovely video as always! So cool how they use drum BBQs there like we do in SA. That style used with charcoal is very common here. I would be curious to see if that jerky is more like American jerky or SA biltong. Our biltong of course is not cooked, just cured. It also common to dry venison biltong out a lot more than beef and hit the large strips with a hammer to form strands of meat kinda like pork floss. We also use natural casings for sausage making (intestines, usually lamb ).
All the food looks delicious and so unique.
I'm having some leftover green beans cooked SA style for breakfast. Very common side dish with roast dinners in SA is chopped green beans, chopped onion and chopped potato boiled till tender then gently mashed together with butter, salt and lots of pepper. YAAAY! I1'st excellent video work! I really liked how you zoomed in from the temple to the BBQ. + It's so good to see that temple all fixed up, it was gutted from fire damage last time we were in Mae Sariang, it looks beautiful, perfect land mark! + Li has as good an eye for finding the right place as Joel! great call! that sure beats cold oatmeal. Love all those dishes but Sai Uua and Aabp the most. The Aabp does have egg and Aabp Moo usually has brain. I just wonder; how "toob" (pounded) is that meat? it's usually pretty flat and the fibers all broken down + you can hear someone pounding away most of the time and see like, a big tree stump or heavy table with a sledge hammer. Lake that place made famous by the Anthony Bourdain episode of Chiang Mai. No matter, just wondering. There are places like this in town Chiang Mai, maybe not as extensive a grill but still a lot of goodies; there's a place just off of Chiang Mai gate. Some places have Sai Uua made with beef or chicken for those who don't eat pork. There's an Halal place near Wat Kate that sells that through a little carry out window (uncooked) and I think a few markets have non pork Sai Uua grilling.
