Mark my uncle Bud used to haul the Big Hayes off highway logging trucks in the 60's in Port Alberni Vancouver Island B.C. I have a photo of him standing beside one with a Huge! Log Load.
Man that engine is looking sharp, I would have done the cross over pipe in black but thats just me, I know its alot of work but if you pick out all the little bolts caps and stuff in black, against the matahorn white that engine will be a show stopper. Awesome work Mark and thanks again as usual for my thursday fix which helps keep me sane, ive ben suffering mental health problems for quite a while now and this is just the kind of restoration stuff I like to see, takes my mind off my problems if only for a little while. You really do make a difference to peoples lives.
"Wouldn't want to do the whole frame with this"... hahaha How about doing whole ships with Needle guns and Knucklers... Love the videos, keep them coming.
When you look back at all you've acheived and all the restoration work done by yourself, It'll be all worth it mark... Fair play to you, and loving the video as per usual. Thursday is my fav weekday......
Hey Mark,Bill Fries a.k.a MC McCallen a.k.a "Rubber Duck",the man who wrote the song Convoy for the classic movie Convoy;and most likely had starred in the movie as the driver of the Rubber Duck truck, had passed away a few days ago;at the age of 93.Another icon of the golden age of trucking, that was an advocate for the trucking industry is gone;just like Burt Reynolds. Like Waylon Jennings,Bill Fries was a country artist who also had produced several trucker albums;that truckers would've listened to on tape decks & cassette tapes, and on coin operated jukeboxes in truckstop diners;on long cross country trips delivering loads.
@@uliwehner I am aware of the fact that Burt Reynolds didn't drive the "Snow Man" Kenworth W900A conventional truck in Smokey and the Bandit, but I know for a fact that Burt Reynolds was a supporter and an advocate for the trucking industry in the 1970's;because he knew "that if you got it,a trucker brought it",and more than likely had foresaw the negative downhill direction that the industry was heading in;hearing about the bills that were being introduced to the House & Senate, that would inevitably deregulate the trucking industry at the time;became a big supporter and advocate for the industry, because of those harmful House & Senate bills;that congress was introducing at the time.I was referring to the fact that like Burt Reynolds and Waylon Jennings,Bill Fries had known that the trucking industry is a vital part of our nation's economy;and therefore is a critical and crucial part of our national security.Bill Fries knew & understood that without the trucking industry, our country's economy would crash and our nation would be at a standstill;which would be the worst economic disaster, since the great depression of the 1930's,being the end result.Burt Reynolds and Waylon Jennings, were both big supporters and advocates for the trucking industry, and so was Bill Fries;which was why I had said: "Another icon of the golden age of trucking, that was an advocate for the trucking industry is gone;just like Burt Reynolds".I hope that this was a more clear & constructive response;as I was not being clear enough, which would explain why you thought I sounded confused
@@devinrussell493 no worries, i knew what you meant. just kidding. I am all for a healthy trucking industry. used to drive one myself when i was MUCH younger
A DuPont overhaul is the best lol. I see old farmers paint John Deere’s with 10,000 hours on them and take them to the auction and get crazy prices because they look good but are wore out. I really enjoy your channel. Keep on keeping on…
Mark your doing won(😉)hell of job on that engine....I'm impressed....your determination for these projects are I can't find the right words...lol...I absolutely appreciate y'all for true...much love to the Twinsticks garage family ..🤘🇨🇦🇺🇸
Boy the stuff that has to get done to get these old iron up and running seems to be a never ending task. But ya got to love it to do it and Twin I am thinking at times you do. Great informative videos every one. I take my hat off to ya, your getting it done..
Man am I ever just lovin' this channel. I like how you tackle every job right down to a coat of paint to finish it off. Great work ,always look forward to your videos.
Marc, She is coming along buddy. look at what you achieved man. I first starting watching you when you pulled Lil by Lil out of that field. you use to work in snow Strom and inclement weather, now you got this big old heated man cave, the best part you have a misses twin sticks that supports your craziness. in my book you got it all you are living the dream we all wish we could. Love your shows I haven't missed any of them. keep on trucking brother and Aloha from the Big Island 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Good move on picking up a needle scaler. They work great, especially for guys that are always dealing with rust, it's a necessity in the arsenal of rust remediation tools in my opinion. I bought my first one over 20 years ago and it's been extremely useful. Cabover is looking great 😁👍
Even though there's a bit of expense involved, you're gonna find yourself SO much happier when you can finally get the Oxy/Acetylene setup. Using those propane hand torches on a heavy-duty diesel is kind of like "pissing in the ocean to raise the tide!!" Truck is looking sharp, Mark!! 👍👍👍
There's a reason you're so popular Marc , from your dedication to working on trucks and doing your part to try and help out in the community , kudos to you for that .
with that needle scaler you gonna feel it in the evening, every bone in your arm hand and shoulder, did that on a dumptruck in our company and on my uncles drive axles and frame. a little trick for rubber gaskets use Silicone Spray, coat it sligthly and it will fall in place and because the rubber gasket will suck the silicone in it won't leak (usually) And when painting the engine you need a real good engine primer to stick to the block, some real thick stuff if you want it to stay nice for long. and why don't you powdercoated the bolts? Also I'd put a box underneath the grill when coating so not all around is full with the powder and you can safe some buck on reusing.
About now is the right time for a short video telling everybody, "you know what, I'll to lawnmower restaurations from now on" lol Great work I am no engineer, but on a cabover I would weld a few Mountings for chains on the cab so that you could have something holding heavy party like the turbo
I love needle scalers.. also great for removing 1/2" plus harden grease, paint, rust and deforming aluminum!!! (I attack those parts at an angle, not directly at them using my free hand around the needles with welding gloves to close up the needles into more of a power chisel) then finish up with brake part cleaner and wire brush..
Another fine job Mark, believe it or not I was even groaning and moving in chair trying to help you put the turbo in, Hahahaha but I guess you got it done without me. I helped a friend years ago do the top end of an A block engine and for an engine with most everything in the open they are not that easy to work on. Lookin forward to next week Mark have a great week.
I know right any body who ever did a turbo on a cat engine was doing the same ! Mark does great work wish he drop two by a week ! But he is a working man
The Iron Duke is looking Great that engine color looks nice but like you say it's hard to keep clean. Keep up the great resto's all the trucks are coming together quite nicely.
Good lord that engine is sharp! Awesome work and slightly jealous, a old truck yard next to my work has some cabover Pete's I'd like to see shiny again.
The 0le cheeck poker....as a towboater, ya can imagine that sound all year round on a 100' long boat that is 4 decks tall..🤔 And the wife wonders why i dont hear her😔 The sound of my ppl🤣 Lookin good Mark
You can still get the metal breather cans. Order the Yellow Mark number, they're metal and less money, pretty much identical to the originals. The Duke is making good progress!
Mark you did that the hard way bubba... Next time, Pull the exhaust housing off (only one clamp) and bolt that up, leave the center section loose until your oil lines are bolted on (so you don't create stress cracks at the weld seams), loosen the compressor housing clamp and insert the tube then rotate the whole compressor housing and tube around to mate with the WTAAC assembly. Sounds like a lot but it's only two clamps to pull it apart and most of the time you'll have to loosen them to clock things anyway so it's not like it's that much extra. :) Project's looking good - you're the second one I've seen doing a black/white paint theme on the motor - a friend is finishing a full out of frame on his '84 B Model from his 359.
You need cold spray mate! Get it from the first aid section. Then you heat up the metal around the stuck bolt, spray the bolt itself with cold spray. The hot metal expands, the cold metal contracts, the thermal shock is usually enough to break things free.
If you plan on setting valve lash in the future I highly recommend getting a jam nut valve adjustment tool. Definitely makes it easier as you can tighten everything with one hand.
Engine is looking so nice Mark. It may be hard to keep clean but that white sure does look pretty. Looking forward to the next episode and keep up the good work.
Mark, FYI there is a 180 gallon 20HP compressor on Kijiji, would solve your air delivery issues. Also the feed is the top and drains down and out the bottom and back to oil pan.
Nice work getting those pre-loved engine parts installed, Mark! That engine is shining right up. Another Saturday's work well done! Thank you for bringing us along for the ride.
Love these projects, wish I had time for a row of trucks like that! I have an 05 900l that needs some refreshing. I’ll be sure to mention to day cab company I found them through you channel. Thumbs up on the trailer park boys clip lol.
Friend food for thought if you give cat all your filter numbers and ask them for the marine equivalent filters ,the numbers will be different but then you will have all white filters .
I’ve just benched the full snowman series and the full iron duke Serie! And damn what nice time! I really like what i see!! I didn’t even commented any is the videos, because I really likes what I saw! I remembered to like any video I saw! From one truck junkie to another; nice work! I been wondering, if the iron dukes looked shorter, and your frame is cracked at the rear. Why don’t you move the tandem foreword, so the rear axles takes the place of the front one, and Kill two birds with that same stone? And stay tandem!! I really like Daytons, but that was a major struggle! I though they was surppose to be more “field service friendly”! But that was hard times! Im used to different kind of truck, so this is very educational! Keep the videos coming, and I keep liking them!

Mark, I went to grab the hammer but when I came back you already had it done.
Wow there's a good idea invent the turbo holder while you install it 😀
Awesome job on all your trucks. Old classic iron is the best. I cant wait to hear those Jake's sing on the iron duke
Well with the white paint you'll certainly see all your leaks

Burt drove the transam, not the truck, just saying. But, yes, he is gone.

In this depressing world.. Seeing a new video from Twinstik still bring a smile to my face 🤙
Man I really miss my old cassette tape that had all these awesome songs on it. Truck driver songs.Wish had it back!
I totally admire your patience and Determination,Well Done 🎯🎯👏👏👍

Mark its starting to look good and come together and be safe and always be careful doing what u do on the trucks each and every day
Man am I ever just lovin' this channel. I like how you tackle every job right down to a coat of paint to finish it off. Great work ,always look forward to your videos.
Definitely need to get some torches. Those bolts could have been blown out of that cast iron in less than 5 minutes.

That turbo looks great with paint! Don't forget to prime the turbo with oil before you put the feed and drain lines on. Keep up the great work Mark!
Talk to turbo. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Thats how we do it to old gals. Working alone. And they think we crazy. Great work
Nice job - white looks great even with a few finger prints.... Looking forward to the next video.
We use a needler for everything it seems like working on cat equipment like to use it for the holes of edges that packed full of dirt
Wow she’s going to look amazing in black and white ,
Coors Beer , paint fumes , and Dave Dudley. It just doesn't get any better than that !
Firstly, I couldn't understand why the CAT engine wouldn't be in yellow. But now I see that it looks amazing
The original ones (1693 and early 3406s) were all Matterhorn white 👍
In the Navy we used needle guns all the time to clean deckplates, and bulkheads. They sucked to use, but did a good job.
100,000 subscribers should mean 100,000 stickers. That doesn't look like nearly enough!

thx for giving back to the food bank with the stickers...class act Marc...pay it forward folks..

Jerry reed would be proud
