Nobody will ever search junkyards to rebuild a Cascadia or Volvo 20 years from now! Nobody will care when they are gone! I will still be working on an old Mack!
The good news is that Kenworth has no plans to discontinue the W900 Kenworth stated that "as long as the B-cab models (T800, W900B, W900L, C500B, 964) can keep up with emissions, they will continue to offer them."
Mornin Mark, Great on the hunt video, You are sure right about trucks changing, we have a new star sitting in our shop and ya things have changed alot since the first truck I drove back in 1975. That 58 KW is a class act who ever redone that old girl put a huge amount of time and sweat into that piece of history and I could not believe the price it sold for, WOW!. Well I guess you should buy that old 66 up here in my area, haha and a new shop extension. Have a great week my friend say hello to Mrs. Twin stix for us.
Mark I’ve been watching since episode one released when I barely had my drivers license and it’s been cool to watch you come this far! Now I’m out driving a an International 4700 Tow truck… Ik she’s not a rig but it’s neat to me… keep ‘em coming!
50K for the '58 is INCREDIBLE! If you look above the Kenworth logos on the hood sides there is 2 holes. Those are for the missing extremely rare "Canadian" emblems!!
My dad bought a new KW just like that one in red in 1962 for just over $12000. Had a 220 Cummins and a 4X4 trans. I spent my youth in that uncomfortable seat you talked about. Best days of my life.
Love that ‘58 at the end. Sweet. Enjoy these auction series videos Glad you have a nice shop to work in away from the freezing weather up there. Well earned and deserved. Appreciate your work and videos
Due the increased exhaust temps from burning the def they need those fish gills to pull in fresh air and lower the exhaust temp so it can't start grass fires.
Bigger issue is the DPF’s when it comes to exhaust temps. Takes a lot of heat to burn up all the soot inside. Combine a truck pulling a load down the highway and a rolling regen.. you can smell the heat coming off that sucker.
Thank you Mark for the video. We have no E-logs where I work. We still use paper logbooks. I occasionally have to fill out a logbook sheet even w/ driving people around Orange County California.
Dude! I was literally just at the ritchie bros to pick up that red and black T800!!! Well, the sister truck beside it, you might not have seen it there if i already took it. It was the exact same truck in every way, except theres an extra button in mine under the dash thats how i know. My company flew me to Edmonton from Yellowknife to get it, that old Earl Paddock T800 is running the Ice roads north of yellowknife now!!! I can send you some pictures of me and my truck up here if you're interested, but i definitely got some pictures of that ol kw when i was there too haha, the star of the show for sure
I can not agree with you more about these trucks. I love the old ones. You are always spot on. If I were able to order a brand new one today. It would come with a 13-18 speed with all the chrome and air canisters and real stacks. I just love the old trucks just as you do. I appreciate you and we have the same thoughts on pretty much everything. I have so much respect for you. I agree completely.
Awsome video mark really digging some of the oldies definitely not making them like they use to that for sure not many twins sticks but normal sticks I could handle my self lol thumbs up and shared
There are still so many guys that love the old look infact I would go as far as to say it is the majority. I guess most new trucks now a days are bought by large trucking company’s and maybe they aren’t selling how they used to. Great video as always.
31:31 This truck kinda reminds me of the Duel truck... the single horn, and the general shape of the truck, aside from the colour, the chrome, twin stacks and rear fenders. Pretty neat truck!
Wow! I thought for sure that bids would fly in from all over. Guess money is too tight for toys now. I would has liked that purple truck too. Thanks for taking us to these with you!
I own a composite fabrication company and I have been talking with my business partner about developing a restyle kits for trucks. I was thinking about making a conversion nose to make the newer trucks look like the older hood trucks and I also want to develop aerodynamic hoods for older trucks to increase fuel economy. I want to offer complete kits with grills, headlights and accent panels. Imagine a 389 style hood on a 579
The fins like you call them are actually bunk extensions to help reduce wind drag between tractor and trailer initially put on to increase fuel mileage.
@@TwinStix I saw it on Semicasual's channel. I think they had one, not sure if it was a prototype or the actual first ones being built. You did it right brother, 359s were the best! Not to mention the 351s
That was a nice little truck big enough to work small enough to play. Beautiful truck imagine a small Sleeper and a 4’ stretch aww man that wold be a sweet little-rig !!
Mark those Pete’s that have the shinny fenders and the fancy stuff on the hood around the red dot are called “Pride in Class” they are very nice trucks. My last truck was a Pride in Class but it was a Black cherry color and cost me a third more
Hey Mark ! I'm sure somebody has already said that the black 16' 389 had the limited production Pride & Class package. Polished fenders, hood crown, louvered grill, hood spine etc. along with interior goodies and Pride & Class emblems on the sleeper. A lot of new 389 Pete's come with grass burner exhaust with fake stacks. I don't know if you follow Bruce Wilsons channel. He bought a new 389 that came with a grass burner exhaust. He also has a nice Freightliner cabover dubbed Blue Collar. The SEMI Casual channel customized his 389 and they do a lot of nice Pete's on their channel.
Interesting.... at 7 mins, the Freightliner you got into. The steering wheel, some of the trim panels and that shifter control. All the same as a Mercedes Benz Actros like we have here in the UK.
I can't remember whose channel I saw it on but they had took a picture of a square hood Pete , sitting outside the Texas plant .It had a curved windshield and a few other unique things. It was visibly not a 389 .
The cutouts in the exhaust was probably the let some cool air in the mix with extremely hot air during dpf regen. If you look at the exhaust tips on your diesel super duty’s you’ll see similar holes.
drove many miles across Canada and the states to get to see North America and got paid to see it too still Canada in the fall with the leafs turning colours still beats everything i try to keep south for the winter too
those narrow hood little window KW's have such an old school wicked look! and the '589' is supposed to be displayed sometime in may, heard that from a peterbilt expert
Like many people have said, the cutouts in the exhaust tip are meant to diffuse the tremendous heat generated by the self cleaning process of the Diesel Particulate Filter. It literally burns the soot it collects, turning it into ash. If you drive a truck that breathes through external cans you can hear the roar of those flamethrowers behind the turbos firing up to get the DPF hot enough to burn the soot off! Earlier engines had an extra injector and spark plug behind the turbo to make it happen lol.
Hey mark that black 389 with the stainless trim, they are called a pride&class series, only they get the stainless trim and fenders, kinda like the 379 legacy (special edition)
389 pride and class Black Pete 389x has the same options with a chrome fenders and the drop panels like that the only thing that's different Winstead is the grill side emblem
Hi Mark I finished 7 years ago uk 🇬🇧. They were bringing in auto box front facing cameras and driver cameras so at the end of shift you were debriefed on your driving . Retired at 55 not for me the future now I see trucks no wing mirrors 😕 what is the world coming too. Getting old I guess .keep up the restoration projects need more like you .
I am sure that the internal air filters lead to better aerodynamics and better fuel economy, but I agree that external cans look cool. No external air cans, no stacks, and automatic transmission is making heavy duty trucks more like giant pickup trucks. As Bob Dylan sang, "oh the times they are a changin".
so any chance Mrs. TwinSticks will let you do a Mack *Convoy truck without having to build you a doghouse to sleep in?...LOL keep up the good work and thanks for saving the classics
Yeah…,,trucks have come a long way…..I couldn’t do 200,000 kms a year in an old school truck if they paid me double….and after shifting for 30 years I love my automatic
Truckers are getting older and new truckers are few and far between. IMO both benefit from just keeping two hands on the wheel and not worried about shifting.
Old school is great. Love them. BUT. I have bout 2 three year old Cascadias for my new company for $70 000 combined. Took another 17k to make them fully road fit. They aren't pretty..but I'm in it for less than half the price of a shook down clapped out long hood. I'd love a 379 or a w9 one day. But as long as I can buy a decent aero truck for dirt cheap I'll keep running them. But I love your iron Duke the most I want a coe so bad.
After the 389s are done they are making a 589 in place of it and it will have the 579 cab for better comfort and visibility and still have the 389 chassis the only thing that is different is the cab. Ps. love your videos
Too bad you didn’t start up the black Pete or at least opened up the hood. I saw the listing for it and it had a single turbo Cat motor in it! No wonder it went for such a premium price!
The newer western stars fall apart from vibration on the haul road here in Alaska. Don't know alot about the brand new 49x western stars. We run mostly w900s because they just hold up better in inclement weather and abuse

@@Mouthy_Trucker Macks are used to haul all the other trucks to the junkyard.
Zeke dawg will be looking for a 579 automatic Peterbilt
Spot on except the mack part
Are you talkin about the swedish Peterbilt. LOL
The good news is that Kenworth has no plans to discontinue the W900
Kenworth stated that "as long as the B-cab models (T800, W900B, W900L, C500B, 964) can keep up with emissions, they will continue to offer them."
These new Era trucks have no character. I love old trucks. They don't make them like they use to
I grew up in kenworths like that ‘58! Greatest memories a child can ever have.

Beautiful classic Kenworth, I've had my eye on a 1969 Kenworth w900a with an ntc 335 Cummins and a spicer 5&4 transmission
924 was on. The model number my serial number was 113664 335 cummins Rto 910 Spicer 8341 SSHD at 6.17 steel fram at 230
All the trucks in NZ run full fenders on the rear like that 30:00 to save rocks and stones flying out so easy some trucks run brushes as well .
Thank you for the video, really nice that old trucks.
Don't you just love it when they put the stickers on the headlights and front windshield
Thanks for the tour! I love looking for the old stuff too...makes the trip more fun searching for the next oldie!

That 378 gravel truck had a hydraulic tank paired with the fuel not def
Thanks for the video Mark...insane truck prices, oh well it's only money.
These are always so much fun!
The black Pete with the shiny fenders. It was a pride and class option. The grill was different too.
Nice old lady on the end of this video , 1958 Kenworth needle nose.
Great catch Mark! The chrome hood trim on that black 389 indicates it's a "Pride and Class" package. Another fine production, keep up the good work!
Good one.... "where are all the cool trucks" Cannot get over the prices!

The brake pedals in the European Dafs were still upright like the old Kenworth up until a few years ago. A carry over from the Foden's

I remember when they debuted the 379X. They only made a limited amount of those too.
You have my vote keep the Iron Duke long custom wheelbase I love everything stretched however when pulling a trailer it get hairy
Someone definitely took pride in that 58 hope she went to a good home.
The cutouts in the exhaust was probably the let some cool air in the mix with extremely hot air during dpf regen. If you look at the exhaust tips on your diesel super duty’s you’ll see similar holes.

I like the w9 at 27:31 because as you could hear and see it already had some weight reduction
What do you think of the kenworth t800 I like them
I think the holes in the exhaust are to let cool air in so it reduces the chance of burning brush when it goes into regen.
I was there a few days before the auction, didnt get to see the old kenny, not sure where it was when i walked the lot. I went there just for it.
The sleeper wings are for hiding hoses and headache racks
That’s another benefit along with improved air flow around the trailer 👍

If I was to choose a project it would be a toss up between an 85-95 379L or an 74-82 w-900A , I would make em both work for my company though 😊
The A model would be my first choice they are a beauty !!!
The best Weed Burner I’ve ever seen was on a car hauler in the 80’s.
It was pointed out the driver side of the truck…just at Miata height! 😂

A lot of guys are choseing retirement rather than driver facing cameras, and can't say I blame them.

Basically as i understood it the 389X is essentially an ultimate final edition truck like the 379x that came out around '04-05
The first 389x is going to a museum and 2 one guy in Tennessee has it and is customizing it at semi casual and there is another one down there two
Surprised that old truck went as low as it did . Sure is a beauty
And that black flat top w900L with the pipes I seen at ufa in lloyd and pretty sure it was Fort Pitt that bought it!
