I think the flash is going to be a bit better around the kitchen for dinking. The MUVN 16X will have quite a bit more power and feel firmer off the face.
I think the 16X is more firm than the DBD for sure. It has that GRUVN plushness but I would put it more in the Pulsar / CRBN 3X category more so. It's elongated and more power-oriented than the DBD. I think the DBD has more soft game potential for sure.
Which paddle do you prefer between the Gruvn Muvn 16X and the Gruvn Muvn 13S for control, power, touch and forgiveness, trying to decide which one I should buy next, my go to paddle at the moment is the Vatic Pro Prism Flash, I also play with Legacy Pro, Selkirk Labs 003, CRBN 1 and 2 and GRUVN 16E
I would go with the 13S it's one of my absolute favorite paddles right now man. I think you'd love it! And it has some different properties to it in comparison to your lineup! I think it could be really cool to feel out whereas the 16X is more relative to the Legacy Pro, CRBN, and the Prism Flash.
Playing the Flash 16mm now but looking hard at the 13S. My best shot is the punch, so the pop is what I'm looking for in my next paddle. I also play the ICON V2 on occasion.
@@stspickleball Word on the streets is "hold off" on getting a new paddle till late Nov or Dec. Things are getting interesting in the paddle world. Hoping something with EVA is going down. The pop off the face of EVA is crazy!!

I think it is very relative if not a touch firmer than the Nova. Ronbus sent me a second Nova recently and it does feel a bit more plush than the first one they sent me :)
Both solid paddles I think the 16x is firmer off the face so a bit poppier and rigid. BALLR Heat feels almost exactly like a Volair Mach 1 Forza so it has a nice all court feel, does everything well. If you want a poppier more power oriented experience I’d go 16X if you want a solid paddle that does everything well for a good price I’d go Heat 🙏
@@stspickleball thank you. And compared to the Ronbus Nova? Are you also planning to test/review the Crush RQT? Am coming from a Gruvn Raw 13x and looking for an upgrade, preference for an elongated paddle with a long grip.
@@TanjavanderWoude crush is just another overpriced no name brand I’d much rather steer you towards a Hudef Viva Pro gen 2 or a Neonic Force and help you save some money cause it’s not going to feel any different 😊 viva pro gen 2 will be more power oriented and Neonic force will be more all court. @@TanjavanderWoude do you prefer the 13mm thickness? Or do you want to move to 16? Ronbus Nova was underwhelming for me and lacked spin so I don’t really love that paddle.
@@stspickleball so far I primarily played with 13mm paddles. I like to focus on the smaller brands (pickleball apes, ballr, Pikkl etc) and always looking for interesting paddles to play with. The feel of a paddle is key, but I recognize that this is subjective. Also like to randomly switch between control and power paddles, as long as I dont have to pay > 180 for a paddle, and play around with lead tape to change the characteristics and feel of a paddle. I am an advanced player with a tennis background hence the preference for elongated paddles with 5.5 inch grips.
That's a tough one. Do you feel like you'd value more power or more control in your singles game? The 16X is going to have more power and be more rigid and firm off the face, the 13S is going to have a bit less power, but be more linear off the face and feel generally nicer on drops, dinks, and is way faster in hand battles. If you don't find yourself dropping or drinking much against your opponents I'd probably recommend the 16X. But if you find yourself driving to get to a drop, and then you're up at the kitchen often I'd go 13S
@@stspickleball this is extremely helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I’ve decided on the 13S! I like the idea of trying something new. If you have time for one final question, given that this will be my first 13mm paddle, do you have any recommendations on weighted tape? Will standard 3g bars fit the side, or would I be better off using thinner tape like the Selkirk Tungsten tape? Thank you so much!
@@aazamkhan2531 try it with none and try with some added to the bottom of the sides on the flat part. The 4 and 8 o'clock position above the bottom two corners. That's the best spot to add lead tape. Yeah it definitely has some major power. I watched that video as I'm always consuming as much information as I can to stay up to date for my subscribers. It does have some incredible power, but it's not the most powerful paddle I've tested. But that isn't a bad thing. It has a ton of power, but does have that bit of GRUVN plushness. I've tested every GRUVN paddle and in comparison to other paddles they always have this bit of plushness that sort of sets them apart. It's a great paddle and one I can highly recommend.
@@stspickleball Thanks for your answer! If she actually thinks it's more powerful than Legacy, Power Air, CRBN1x 14, etc. she must have a different definition of power than most people, right? @@stspickleball Definitely agree with your sentiments, I'm in a similar transition towards higher level, softer shots. One thing I haven't heard anyone talk about is that a more poppy and powerful paddle reduces the TIME AND EFFORT required to achieve a given pace on all your powerful shots. This means that you have extra time and effort to spend on anticipation, positioning, aiming, disguising, fatigue reduction, etc. Maybe even more importantly, there seem to be MANY shots in a game (mostly counters and out of position shots) where you simply do not have time for a longer swing to achieve the same pace with a less poppy paddle. It also seems that paddles like Power Air, CRBN1x 14 and Legacy are very popular among high level players and pros.
