"You do the curve the French curve dictates". Absolutely right. I have had a deep and meaningful relationship with my French curve for many years, it's sitting just a few feet away from me right now. It belonged to my Grandfather. He got it in Germany in the 1940s. He wasn't an artist but he found a lot of art supplies when he was there back in WWII and for whatever reason brought them home for me to use many years later. I can't thank him enough for driving me insane when I kept trying to move the French curve the same distance from each line every time so I had this machine-like quality to my lines. (If only I had known what Zip-A-Tone was back then).
I just don't like the kids who only knew Hokuto No Ken by a meme. Sadly, they never knew Hokuto No Ken is the pioneer of all Shonen action genre. Tetsuo Hara is the GOAT.
The book definitely sets the tone for stuff like DragonBall Z and other there-is-always-a-bigger-badder-bad-guy-and-one-more-power-level-to-reach genre books. Not sure if that was a good influence, but yeah, the art is fire!
@@clubgrubbug Like you said "there is always a bigger badder bad guy and one more power level to reach" thing has been found in modern shonen manga. but Hokuto No Ken is an exception. You learn through how a character is being developed (even for a villain could be redeemed and there are sadistic villainss who deserved to die too). Not all the characters are perfect yet they had time to rethink of their ways. Also, the balancing of maturity and humor is the uniqueness of Tetsuo Hara.

@@BeatriceMcKinney-o6r I very much look forward to seeing where the whole epic goes. These new reprints are the first time I have ever read the story!
Nice.
Thanks, John!
