    Great Video.
    Can you please explain in detail what you mean when you say that the fabric is easily 'distorted' ?
    Thanks

      It just means that it can stretch, which makes it nice for conforming to compound curves, not so nice if you need strength along one axis (along the length of airplane wing, for instance).

    Put duratec hi-gloss additive in sunshield too & if needed, duratec thinner . I use this method as a gelcoat, then my unibodies get wrapped.

    Or is this a type of fiber that is not flexible?

    carbon breaks when stretched
    kevlar breaks when compressed
    there's no win - win here

    • @fibreglast
      @fibreglast  5 лет назад +6

      Any material can break when subjected to enough compression or elongation. The purpose of using a Carbon/Kevlar® hybrid is to gain the best characteristics from both materials. Carbon for its high strength to weight ratios, and Kevlar® for its high abrasion and impact resistance.

    could this product be used as the final layer of a boar hull with epoxy. Or will it have degradation issues with the kevlar

    • @fibreglast
      @fibreglast  6 лет назад +1

      Hello Cliff. This is Adam from Fibre Glast. Yes you can certainly use this material as the final layer for a boat hull with epoxy resin. However degradation will be an issue unless you coat the epoxy resin with our #1045 Duratec® Sunshield Clear Topcoat. This product will help protect against any degradation that might occur. I have copied the link to that product below. If you have any further questions I'll be happy to answer them. www.fibreglast.com/product/Duratec_Sunshield/Duratec

      Thank you for the fast response Adam. I contacted your sales department but was disappointed to learn you no longer carry red or blue Hybrid. And let's face it, not much call for yellow if it's going to be the finish look. Your excellent presentation benefits other sellers if you are unable to supply those other options. But thank you , again for excellent informative videos.

      @@cliffelwood4992 If I could expand on this application, Kevlar is non sand-able and hygroscopic in nature. It wants to absorb moisture and must be well sealed in marine applications. UV light will attack it and change the dyed color you like so much. There are ceramic coatings that I would suggest to look into with UV protection that repel water like nothing else to consider.
      I used the Red/Black material on my boat but kept it above and out of any moisture, purely cosmetic. I used carbon on my sole/floor replacement but in retrospect I could've used S-2 glass and gained impact resistance carbon doesn't have. Would've saved some $ also, probably a lot.
      I realize this is a year old comment but it might help someone out there.

    On impact, say on a plate of Carbon/Kevlar with a hammer(with enough force), does it shatter and potentially send pieces flying or keep it somewhat together?
    Curious since theres a rule where i'm from, where carbon fiber is illegal since it sends pieces flying.

    • @nidhalsormali3051
      @nidhalsormali3051 3 года назад +1

      It can send peices flying if you hit it hard enough but just breaking it normally wouldn't

      Hello. From what I can tell based on Innegra's website they do not carry a carbon fiber/kevlar hybrid such as the one featured in this video. I have attached a link directly to that product page on our website. If you click the documents tab you can download our Product Data Sheet for this product and it can tell you all the technical information you need to know.
      Thank you.
