Thank you for posting these videos. I am 10 days post-op today from a right FAI with labral repair. It has been brutal thus far but I am determined to run again! I’m an endurance runner too with dreams of an ultra, I’ve done up to full marathon distance road races thus far. Thank you for your Vlog. Very useful and helpful for me. I am a Fitness Instructor and Yoga Instructor and I am currently waiting to have this surgery (in the UK, so at the mercy of the NHS waiting lists). I live alone and up two flights of stairs, so I know this is going to be tough, as I am not going to be able to teach classes during the time I am recovering. Seeing that the surgery is worth it is very encouraging.

I'm so glad I found your video! ❤
I'm a year out from a right hip FAI with labrum reconstruction and I just completed my first half marathon last weekend!
My physician has me going back to PT for about 4 to 6 weeks for continued strengthening so I stumbled across your video while I was doing some research.
I'm looking forward to seeing how you continue to progress - I understand completely that fear as you get into the higher milage and trying to determine exactly what kind of soreness you're having.
Thank you so much for sharing this; it's really encouraging to hear that it's all still just part of the process and others feel similarly to the way I am now.

Hi! I’ve done caretaking for 20 years and last November I suffered some trauma to my hip from helping a guy I cared for that was falling. About a month and a half later the job ended and I quickly found myself injured and without my main day job. I’m also a multi instrumentalist, and a music teacher, and one of the instruments I play is drums. Drums have helped me immensely to get through a lot of personal struggles and honestly been kind of a lifeline. Since November I’ve had pain in my hip and recently when they did an MRI (workers comp takes forever) It showed that I have a labral tear. This is been kind of devastating to me, because I am a music teacher in the evening and just living life obviously requires being mobile. It’s not like I can’t walk, but I’ve really been having a hard time, not knowing what the future holds so I really appreciate seeing this video! I’m curious, when she’s doing marathons, is she feeling pain and she’s just powering tough? I feel a lot of tension and discomfort that puts me in more of a bad headspace than anything, so I’m wondering if I am being little self indulgent or what can I expect the surgery could fix? I do feel like it’s very encouraging to hear that she’s doing dozens of miles and that was really nice to hear. Thanks!

Valan says she doesn’t feel pain when running. Sometimes there is fatigue as she is till base building and the body is adapting, but it’s not the same as before the surgery. She runs pain free!
We wish you the best in your journey!!

Just wanted to say how great your video progress has been. I'm having this procedure done next Tuesday and it was really great to get an idea of what to expect. My injury came on REALLY quick... At least it felt that way. In reality it's probably just been getting worse and worse slowly but...I went from a slight limp to barely being able to walk in a matter of weeks. Watching your story really gave me a better idea of what to expect. So glad you're back to doing what you love, Valan... Gives me hope that I'll just be back to walking normally soon. 😊

@@UltraTrailSteven not just this one, all of them. I started with the chat the night before when she was talking about how she was cleaning the house (I can't even change my laundry or unload my dishwasher right now) to this one. It really gives me hope. I hadn't even thought about the toilet seat thing (that would have made the first day bad) or adjusting my seat to drive and your comments on the ice needed for the ice machine basically convinced me not to get one since I don't have a working ice maker in my refrigerator. I had a really bad lisfranc fx in my left foot ten years ago that has required three surgeries to fix so I thought this would be cake considering I was NWB for the better part of a year back then but your videos were super educational. Thank you for taking the time to make them. Your wife is lucky to have you!!!

I've had FAI surgery past October (Pincer impingement) and got good info on what to expect post op from this channel :) Doing fantastic at the moment with no pain and building strenght now 5 months post operation i feel i'm nearly back to my old physique doing long backpacking hikes and tough daily work.
Most noticeable is the fatique that comes faster and lasts longer on the operated leg still, but considering the ''short'' time i've been recovering its been so worth it.

@@umit777. Very well! i think the strenght deficit in the operated hip is now gone and it feels just as strong as my other hip / leg muscles.
Most noticable is the fatique that lasts longer and chilly weather definitely takes a bit of a toll (not to the point of any issues) on the joint still for some reason.
I'm guessing that will stay for a while to come, which is fine considering the amount of pain i was in pre-op

Great advice to get the strength training sorted BEFORE getting the running sorted. Very sorry to see about the nausea etc. post op. I’ve had both hips replaced in the last 12 months and had spinal blocks both times so was wide awake during the procedures. About 30 mins after going in to the recovery room I was back in my room eating a sandwich and having a cup of tea (I’m in the UK). Going back to the strength bit, I’m working hard on my exercises and walking to build up strength in my recently operated hip muscles.

I had this done end of January 2024. I’m 5 months out now and finished PT a couple weeks ago. I’m in the gym 3-4 days a week and am in pretty good shape. I’m not doing much running now, a mile here and there on treadmill. Mostly stationary bike and elliptical. I’m having some light grinding in my knee that wasn’t there before the surgery and my inner thigh groin area has some occasional clicking (feels like maybe a muscle or tendon is binding). I’m just curious if Valan Had similar issues at 5-6 months.

Any idea about the severity of the bone impingement and the labrum tear? Post op my doc said that my bone impingement was moderate and the labrum tear was also moderate. I was relatively pain free before the surgery, but i just couldn't do any change of direction movements in sports or sit cross legged on the floor.

Checked out all your videos before surgery and now viewing them over again 3 weeks post surgery for motivation. Recovery is going well. I was in extreme pain for the first 10 ish days. The last week has been much better, except i keep getting random EXTREME pain usually at night. Did you deal with some residual break through pain? Did it feel like your whole body was re-aligning? I had 3 knee surgeries on the same side over the past 10-12 years (last one was in 2021). I still had random extreme knee pain (MRI showed little progression from last surgery). Knee pain is getting better after my FAI surgery/labral repair, but my SI, ankle, foot on the surgery side are all hurting--feel like i got hit by a truck. Admittedly it is still early, but did not expect so much pain in other areas of my body. Any experience with that?

I’m sorry your having so much pain. I can’t really speak to any extreme pain. I would liken my pain mostly to muscle type pain. I have heard some about nerve issues, which sounds maybe what you are experiencing? Are you in PT? They maybe be able to get you moving better and some relief. Wish I was more help!

    • @nicoledorotinsky86
      @nicoledorotinsky86 11 месяцев назад

Thanks! Yes, i'm in PT. He tells me it's normal considering my history with pain on this side for the past few years. I guess i was just looking for confirmation that once the giant bone spur was removed and the large tear was repaired that everything would realign and i'd finally be pain free on this side from someone who has actually experienced the surgery and recovery. I did have some nerve stuff the first few days, but this is like a deep ache/burning in my groin. Super fun! I'm impatient and want to know the outcome already hahaha I NEED to go for a run...@@valankornhaus7320
