I am so happy I came across this video!, 4 months after surgery I have more hip pain than.pre surgery and am feeling very depressed as i cannot walk without a lot of pain.. Its so true surgeons do not set correct expectations, i actually thought i would be walking and back to normal after a few months.. After listening to this I realise i have been doing far too much too soon. And my surgeon has said exactly what was mentioned in the video- you need to get off crutches and walk, vwhen in fact that is what is making it worse. Thank you so much i will definitely try doing less walking and carry on using crutches as long as i need to.

Hang on, 4 months is still relatively a short period of time. I was in your shoes now a year later I’m doing fine. I was having constant flare ups up to 8 months after surgery. It’s an up and down process. Best of luck hope everything gets better soon! Stay positive trust me you’re going to have bad days. It will get better just have a bit more patience with yourself and your recovery process!

Thank you! I was in a car accident May 2021, I went through 3 doctors. I was told I would heal up in time on my own. Ten months later (still in so much pain, limping and frustrated) I finally found a doctor who did an MRI on my hip. I had an extremely bad tear. It took many more months until I had arthroscopic surgery on December 2, 2022. I am 10 weeks post op, in PT since day after surgery. I was told after 2 weeks to stop using crutches, no cane and do not baby it. I was told to walk normal, do normal daily things. I’m still in pain and told this is normal by my PT. I have a 4 month post op check up on April 20. As I mentioned, I am frustrated. Before my car accident, I was healthy, active, gym 5x week, dancing, bike riding, ice skating, sand volleyball, etc. It’s been 21 months and my balance is poor, right leg fatigues easily and can barely walk far. THANK YOU! I will continue to keep improving and see where I’m at at 4-6 months post op. I’ll check out your other videos. THANK YOU AGAIN for helping me better understand all this 🙏🏼

      Hi Deborah,
I’ve had this repair on both sides and just wanted to mention, you might benefit from a great chiropractor. Chiropractic helped with the walking fatigue for me, because it relieved some of the tight muscles I had in my lower back and hips. I would search for “best sports chiropractor” in your area. Just a suggestion..

@@randiley Thank you for the advice. I’ll definitely check into that. That’s exactly what I’m still feeling and I’m about 6 months post-op. My low back, right hip and right thigh are always tight no matter how much I stretch, exercise or walk

My tear happened from a car accident too, but they, the doctors all gaslighted me so I've dealt with the pain for years until it got so bad, that finally I had to keep asking for an X-ray and MRI. Proved everyone wrong!

It's been 3 years and I still have pain. I did treatments for a year and a half fighting against surgery. I decided what treatments we tries and told my doctor no to surgery until I felt ready. A lot of people need to remember doctors cannot force you to do anything. Saying no is an option.

This video was SPOT ON for me! Thank you! I'm 15 months out from my labrum repair surgery. Unfortunately, I tore my ACL in the knee of my opposite leg and had to have surgery on that leg 7 months ago so the PT for the knee often aggravates the hip. That said, I have ZERO butt muscles so thanks to you, I now know that is likely the top reason for the pain... that and too much walking and over exercising . I'm grateful to you for this video. Thank you again. I'm going to watch your video on glute exercises now.

I had a surgery ten days ago. At the hospital they made me feel as I just could come op and go after the surgery. I couldnt and because they pushed me so much , i actully fell and they had to keep me to the next day. And they said I only needed help 24 hours at home, but I am still totaly dependent on help. And they said some paracetamol and antiflamatoly are enough for pain reliefe but it isnt true. I am actually very espectical regarding the rehab training, because it gives me so much pain. I think the best thing is just to give it time to recover fully and just do the nesecery activities. After it is strong you can always train and build muscle up. Thank you for your information.

@@epmanualphysicaltherapy Yes David, I will. You finally help me understand why my femuroacetabular impingement (CAM femur side) happened and damaged labrum ring exactly in anterolateral in 90deg range as you are showing. You are 100% correct about Gluteus muscles (butt muscles) that become too weak and becoming unbalanced with front, stronger thigh muscles (Iliopsas, Rectus Femoris, and Sartorius). This is happening to people that sits with computer 8 hours per day (40 hours per week)! I’m 47 years old and one of them, and here we go! I never ever had any problems with hips before. I will go for arthroscopy surgery by November 16 to fix my labrum. I will practice your Gluteus exercises much I can! I let you know how goes. You are first David that open my mind with clear explanation for root cause for femuroacetabular impingement. Doctors will never tell you this. Thank you what you doing! 👍👏👏🍀👏👏👍

Oh wow! This was SO informative! It's been 7 months since my hip labrum repair surgery and I hurt daily. I am unable to do ANY unnecessary walking because if I do, I'm in even more pain for days! Most days I try to walk because I figure it needs to be "worked". I definitely didn't think of going back to using a walker after so much time has passed. We've tried a cortisone shot and a PRP injection, neither worked! I guess I need to focus more the glutes and a cane. Your opinion would be appreciated.🙂

Hey Carla, sorry to hear that you're still dealing with daily pain since your labrum repair 7 months ago :-(
Absolutely yes, you need to do everything possible to off-load your hip and allow it to heal. And in the meantime, be strengthening your glutes. You need to use whatever is appropriate to get the weight off your hip - crutches, cane, walker - get on it as quickly as possible and do not allow your hip to be consistently in pain. You should begin to see less pain gradually the more weight you take off your hip joint. As you feel better, then you should be able to tolerate more weight onto your hip.

Labrum is not the same procedure. Thanks for this info. I’m off to the gym.

My daughter has this op twice within six months. This is because the surgeon did a terrible job so it torn again. It’s now 6 years gone but the pain on her hip is still terrible. Never gone away. She is constantly on a cocktail of painkillers. She had done everything she could
including physiotherapy chiropractic, acupuncture etc with no change. She Can’t walk, sit, or drive for any length of time and is in terrible state. Please please advice. Why this is the case? the doc says it’s inflammation. She is disabled now because of pain.mostly in bed. This ruined her life and mine too. She could never spend any quality time with her daughter or husband either. Please help us. Thank you.

My son is a 17 year elite level hockey player and waited 18 months to finally get this surgery missing almost 2 full seasons of hockey. He had the surgery in Sept 2023...followe all the physio, did the exercises, returned to the gym...worked things up gradually. He was given a timeline by the surgeon which he followed and after 4 months was cleared to return to skating and spent 3 more weeks working back up to full speed on the ice. He was then cleared to return to physical play and came back to play 6 games before the end of this season. He has continued to stay in the gym and doing some on ice skill sessions to build back up to preparing for summer junior camps and ultimately get ready for a full return this fall. He has recently started feeling some pinching and minor pain turning his hip inward as well he has noticed the range of motion lifting his knee up is like it was before the surgery...I am starting to wonder if he has torn it again, overdone it or like the surgeon said there would be times during the recovery where he would actually feel like this but it was unlikely to retear it....I watched your video and wonder your thoughts?

Thank you for this video it was definitely spot on for me. I had a right hip labrum repair 3 months ago, and I’m still very limited with certain positions/exercises. The worse is my hip flexors. I have no problem with walking and some strengthening exercises that was given to me during my 6 weeks PT. You mentioned not to do hip flexor exercises as much after 3 months of surgery, but I’m still having lots pain when I try to cross my leg or do any outer hip exercises, the pain radiates very bad down to my knee and it feels extremely tight. My surgeon recommended to stretch those groin muscles as much as possible to get them back to normal, but it puts me almost in tears every time I try to stretch them. The pain is on my groin, front of the hip and thigh going to my knee. I’m not sure what exercises I should do to make this better. He also gave me a steroid i injection because I developed bursitis, but he said I could still exercise and stretch as much as possible. I would love to hear your input on my situation. Thank you again

This is identical to my experience three months out. While I still have “hip” pain from time to time. The flexor/pelvic/groin hurts the most. When I try to stretch, there is so much pain and pressure on my knee. I, too, got a cortisone shot. It lasted two weeks. This is frustrating and I just want to be pain free- or minimal pain at least.

Is it normal to feel that sorta pain after the repair? I know they cut through there during surgery to get to the joint so maybe it’s just repairing slow like you said. Some days it’s not there & some days I feel a little sharp pain here & there if I use that hip flexor
