  • Some of the most vocal people in American politics also seem to be the most religious. And while that's not inherently a bad thing, it can be dangerous... Shawn Boonstra walks through the writings of both Christian and irreligious philosophers (such as Thomas Paine) to uncover how the church's influence on government has quashed freedom and killed dissidents.
    Topics covered include:
    -Separation of church and state
    -Christians in politics
    -Voting
    -Elections
    -Persecution
-What happens when religions ask governments for help
    -American history

    About Authentic:
Host Shawn Boonstra makes it easy to understand how philosophy and biblical principles can help you live an authentic life in the 21st century.
We talk about real existential questions-stuff that everybody wonders about: the meaning of life, purposeful living, the nature of human existence, the thoughts of great philosophers and how those have impacted our culture and how we live-the nature of love, relationships, emotions, self-awareness . . . But most of all, we explore what it means to live an authentic human existence.
New episodes on Saturdays. Watch on RUclips and a growing list of North American TV networks and stations.

Well stated and God bless. Happy Sabbath to one and all at the Voice of Prophecy! I had the honor to meet with Pastor George Vanderman back in the mid 80's in Massachusetts during a camp meeting. We ate together and had a few deep conversations and I remember how he impressed me with his humility and wisdom. I met many famous people over the years, mostly musicianslike Bob Dillon and a few others like him and not one of them ever impressed me not even just a little. They thought themselves to be something special, better than anyone else. Brother Vanderman was a truly good man, it was an honor I will cherish.

Thank you so much for your willingness to discuss this issue. We have to many even in our denomination whose political identity seems to have more influence on them than their Christian identity. Anti-vaxers and anti-maskers have been rude to others in the church.
I am a retired History & Humanities professor and wrote 2 U.S. History textbooks for the college level. So I have strong political views. But none of my fellow church members will know what my political convictions are because politics is by nature divisive. Besides, there is no one right political answer to human problems.
Christian nationalism is not really Christian at all. And although you did not name that movement, that is in part what you were talking about. That + Christian civility.
So keep up the good work. I'm praying for you and your ministry!

    You nailed it Pr. Boonstra.
It's a tight-rope exercise in explaining to people the utter importance of the SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE.
As a church which believes in the Spirit Of Prophecy, we have no business getting involved in politics, and the State should NOT make any laws in the religious realms of its citizens. But i too, am seeing how Christian Nationalism is gaining momentum and prophetically, that is to be expected.
    Happy Sabbath Pastor!
I liked your take on Hitchens and Ayn Rand.

What the world and some believers deem "political" is, in fact, in many ways the Biblical world view issues and not political at all. Thank God for the Blacked Robed Regime to stand and preach in courage, when this beautiful country was being formed. What do we actually see and know what Pastor's today preach and teach? Not very hopeful is it?
Hence, one of the reasons the church is now in free fall and many will turn away from the faith. Prophecy clearly shows us this. For Christians not to participate in civil matters is a disgrace to the grace we've been freely given on this land!
We're not here to make a "Christian" nation. We're here to be a witness.
      God bless America 🇺🇸

Your message is right on as usual, but as Seventh-day Adventist’s, knowing the pandemic was deliberate for seeing how to control the masses for future prophetic events, scared us. I did not think it was right for our SDA churches to be closed, that our conference should have stood up for keeping our churches open, in the belief that the commandment to keep & assemble ourselves together on the Sabbath, that God would protect us. We could have implemented the protections right from the beginning, as we assemble together. This was not Shawn’s point of this sermon, but at the same time, it surely is part of the reason some Christian’s acted out (badly) the way they did!

Re: comment: 👆I’ve fully read your comment & I’m typing back that yes; I really understand your point of view about this subject! Our churches that closed basically spoke volumes of just how they’d bow down to the government & politicians who were really lying to us about this politicalPLANdemic. That’s what has really been found out to be the truth/facts on this issue/matter. Yes, the church was a disappointment in showing that they actually possibly doubted God to literally protect them from the so-called virus. We would have stood out from all others who closed their doors. Plus if we’d refused to wear those dangerous, damaging for your health masks! Which has been proven & shown clearly that they’re causing tremendous harm to our health/bodies & minds. I can’t read the full comment because as I type out my response to you the page won’t move. Ahh, but I really appreciate what you’ve said in a good way! God bless you daily. 🙏

I just thought I’d want to hear from pastor Shawn Boonsta had to say about how politics were supposed to work/operate? Cause I’ve noticed that politics has really become awful in recent years/decades. Hmm 🤔it’s always bothered me the way most politicians operate today. Something to really think about thoughtfully. Not with offensive words. Thanks Shawn.

The purpose of religion is to make the world a better place. Both sides of the Ten Commandments, our direct relationship to God and our dealings with each other are essentially covered, though each group will interpret them differently. The purpose of government is to prevent the world from getting any worse by keeping order among sinners with a focus only on the ideas of the last Six Commandments. When one tries to do the other's job, persecution is right around the corner.

11:06 Very much on point. Imposed law systems never work because they fundamentally are legal and behavioral in essence; Christ had always touched that the matter is of a heart-value system. What you cherish internally principally becomes your ‘god.’
The god of law and order has now taken root in the heart of many Christians and it is blinded them to the very origins of their faith. That the ‘god’ of law and order, the god that the Pharisees loved worshipping, persecuted and murdered their Savior under the influence of satanic agencies.
If they intend on doing the same unto others, they are proving that they've lost the plot. Christ did not come to change systems of human governance but the hearts and characters of men and women enslaved by selfishness and lies that only reinforced the selfishness of their own hearts.
“The great men who built up the Western Church were almost all trained Roman lawyers. Tertullian, Cyprian, Augustine, Gregory the Great (whose writings form the bridge between the Latin Fathers and the Schoolmen) were all men whose early training had been that of a Roman lawyer,-a training which moulded and shaped all their thinking, whether theological or ecclesiastical. They instinctively regarded all questions as a great Roman lawyer would. They had the lawyer's craving for exact definitions. They had the lawyer's idea that the primary duty laid upon them was to enforce obedience to authority, whether that authority expressed itself in external institutions or in the precise definitions of the correct ways of thinking about spiritual truths. No branch of Western Christendom has been able to free itself from the spell cast upon it by these Roman lawyers of the early centuries of the Christian Church.”

The SDA are too pious. The founders of this country would have never succeeded with this attitude and as I noted over-kill is unexceptable. But, as Christians we much show other as an example. And that means standing for our principles in the school meetings and the city meetings. We wouldn't have "gender transitioning" had we attended the PTA meeting and spoke up.
