They buried the media robber baron in the most sacred cemetery in Isreal, the Mount of Olives, whilst his journalists lived out their lives in penury because of his insatiable greed.
In 1949 Albert Einstein said. “When the very rich so controlled the means of communication that it would be almost impossible for ordinary people to make informed decisions and so democracy would then be broken”.
Einstein argued that private capital “tends to become concentrated in few hands”, resulting in “an oligarchy of private capital the enormous power of which cannot be effectively checked even by a democratically organized political society”.
“Moreover, under existing conditions, private capitalists inevitably control, directly or indirectly, the main sources of information (press, radio, education).
“It is thus extremely difficult, and indeed in most cases quite impossible, for the individual citizen to come to objective conclusions and to make intelligent use of his political rights.”
"There's no such thing as public opinion, only published opinion"
    Winston Churchill.
Vale John, you were a thorn in the side of the mainstream media, which they tried to quash, unsuccessfully.

Could see Pilger shifting in his seat.....nobody forced him to work for a 'brute', so he had to choose words carefully.

I believe Maxwell bought the newspaper J Pilger already worked for. Journalists live paycheck to paycheck, they’re not like Hollywood actors.

Whilst totally opposite to my politics I have his books, watched his documentaries and wholly agree with virtually everthing he said and did and miss him greatly. He was the first reporter in 1996 in Vietnam to go out wth the troops unlike the bar types who waited for the daily briefing by the US military to tell them what to write home in their 'so called' press releases. No wonder the US public too readily believed JFK & LBJ till it was too late in 68'. Yet no vilification for either, only Nixon who got them out of it and is remembered soley for Watergate...

The better question is why so many rich people never feel they have ENOUGH. When money accumulates to the point that a fraction of what you have will support you through old age, why not use the rest to help others?
