John Pilger called it as he saw it and you can't ask for more than that.
He reported in a way whereby you knew he was biting his tongue and could've said even more but gradually leaked out the truth.
Pilger told the truth, not many journalists can say that these days.
R.I.P. John Pilger and complete respect 🙏

And yet completely unwilling to tell the truth about Chinese imperialism, for example. He became a wearisome anti western bore by the end, his excoriation of political malfeasance entirely selective and completely silent on the Left's mass crimes in Rotherham, Rochdale, Telford etc etc.

It was John’s videos that first brought home to me the huge void between the reality of what was happening in the world, particularly with the support of the UK, US and Australian governments, and ‘the news’ as presented by the mainstream media and government press releases which they parrot. As has been emphasised in this video, access to the whole truth is now increasingly confined to social media outlets like Declassified and Double Down News. This matters increasingly because well-informed populations are the only barrier to devastation caused by a combination of climate breakdown and the criminal complacency and irresponsibility wrought by those in power. It is no accident that an essential tool of dictators is control of the media. Thank you John for your unstinting work over the years.

I've read Pilger's work since he published Heroes.

What a beautiful, thoughtful remembrance to the most truthful Journalist with a kind heart and Integrity who DARED to report on the oppressed worldwide, given voice to the Voiceless. The world lost an ally. How sad. He knew his craft for sure... One of a kind, who brought a certain elegance, zest, into confronting the higher-ups. What a talent! They don't come like that anymore. If you look at interviews - or god forbid a debate - from just a decade or two ago, you notice quickly that humanity's intelligence dropped significantly. (Check the one with Nelson Mandela in City Hall. Worth revisiting time to time... your jaw will drop each time how intelligently they carried out a decent conversation.) REST IN POWER, MR. JOHN PILGER. Inspiration to millions, xx..

John Pilger stuck to his guns, as the rest of the MSM journos progressively folded under pressure from the editorial policies of their outlets. John did not once give way to editorial pressure and paid a high price for his steadfast adherence to the Truth. News Reporters of his single-minded integrity, you can count on one hand. His courage and dogged determination is an example for all of what 'real' journalism can and should be. God Bless you John and Thank you.

First saw his name reporting from Vietnam way back - a three page spread in the Daily Mirror if I remember correctly - which changed my opinion from blind support to open criticism and as a trade union official spied on and blacklisted in the 80's coming across his book Heroes made me open myself to organising and fighting UK Government policies in a wider sphere over decades - always learning from his example how to search behind the mainline news regurgitating press releases from Ministerial and Company propaganda, Thank you John and all the many others who have dared to put their heads above the parapet and blast back truth toward the naysayers.

I grew up on John Pilger documentaries and World in Action. I have the DVD collection of his documentaries and his book Hidden Agendas, which I read years ago. For me it is a watershed moment, because you are absolutely right the spaces for critical voices are being closed down. It has become impossible not only to criticise British foreign policy but to complain about poor public services, unfair dismissal in workplaces or illegal blacklisting, which prevents fair hiring practices. The silence of the mainstream since his death is itself another glaring omission to those of us familiar with that body of work. How many of the current generation apart from Phil Miller, are familiar with his work? Or are gen Z too busy climbing the Tory gravy chain? Perhaps the best honour of all would be to curate a video comparing his work with current practices which seem to be more concerned with burying injustice on our own shores, behind a charity website rather than exposing it.

Read his book in my early 20's 'Distant Voices' about the 1st Iraq war, brilliant analysis of the early prelude on the War on terror, the description of the evisceratipn of fleeing Iraq conscripts being wholesale murdered just made me weep, and my blood boil.
We'll never see his like again.
