- In this episode I am once again joined by Joe Evans, founder of the Rangdröl Foundation and teacher of Dzogchen under the name Jigme Rangdröl.
Joe explains the significance of the guru-disciple relationship in Dzogchen, details the various forms it may take, and reveals his own special relationship with Dzogchen master teacher Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche.
Joe considers the power of devotion, describes the practice of guru yoga, advises on how to assess a Dzogchen teacher’s authenticity and motivation.
Joe also discusses his own journey as a Dzogchen teacher, reflects on the significance of the endorsements he has received from his gurus Dungse Rigdzin Dorje Rinpoche and Acharya Malcolm Smith, and offers his heart advice to those who wish to practice Dzogchen.

Joe is not talking just for sake of talking. He's actually giving pointers of high value.
Tanks about this new invitation of Joe Evan’s 🙏 it’s really nice to listening he’s explanations and discovering he’s experience in the Dzongtchen patch. This isn’t an easy subject, it requires spiritual maturity to talk about.
Thanks 🙏
Please invite him again !
Great quote, more interested in being a Buddha than a Buddhist!
Great interview. always love Dzogchen topic for my own practice.
Joe, thanks so much for sharing with us all.
He gets a "he gets it" from me 💎💎💎🌈🌈🌈🙏🙏🙏
Excellent, the best Dzogchen teaching I ever heard, thank you so much for your kindness in sharing this!
Great episode!
Could you try getting elias capriles, adriano clemente or lama lena?
No not lama Lena ... she is fake .... lacks kindness and humility and is full of lust
@@waiataaroha sure buddy, sure. Fake enough for wangdor rinpoche to apoint her as one of her linage holders
@DTTaTa I don't care who appointed her... i am speaking from direct experience... the woman is a total mess ... don't be fooled by all these online videos...
Capriles would be such a gem of an interview 😮
@1:17:00 In the beginning we are shy. After years of Dzogchen practice we begin to see through our shyness as just a passing sensation. 😎🙏🏻 Then we are fearless in our Bodhicitta!
🙏🙏🙏
Joe really hits the nail on the head as to what the late great Namkhai Norbu's teachings was all about. Joe clearly has an incredibly strong and clear connection to the teachings which sadly most of us do not have yet. I think what is really kind of mindblowing about Tibetan Buddhist Teachings and teachers in general is that you experience them quite differently from others and even differently from how you used to as you "move" along on the path. Of course this is true for everything in life but it isn't so clear to me as it is when it comes to anything to do with dharma. Anyway, my experience was not understanding what the hell namkhai Norbu was on about most of the time, his English was not the greatest and as great as a Dzogchen master as he was not good at explaining anything and the materials, the books are very poorly put together there is so much redundancy and you will get a book hoping it will clarify something and it spends 80 percent of the time explaining what Namkhai Norbu was always harping on and on about, there is hinayana, mahayana and vajrayana and then there is Dzogchen its a path of instant and spontaneous realization. Its cultural, I live in Asia and that is what so many people do over here is repeat themselves like broken records about one thing and so much that needs to be addressed isn't and a lot of chaos is just part of how things are. With Dzogchen it ultinately doesn't matter, and I feel I got it from Namkhai Norbu, but for the life of me I am so distracted all of the time, I really dispair and I will probably have wasted this life when it comes to the end, wasted it with useless samsaric preoccupations, But I rejoice at Joe's many lifetimes of dilligence and hard workk on the path and I think this interview helps clarify some things for me that Namkhai Norbu couldn't. Thanks so much Joe and Guru Viking.
I somehow ended up reading this whole comment and feel it’s worthwhile to say even though we don’t know each other and will probably not meet in this life, the fact that you came across these teachings means something. If CNN’s style of teaching Dzogchen just did not resonate with you, I hope you can find someone whose style does. Even without a teacher, we can find ourselves in a state of presence and awareness, I know without doubt you’re capable of “holding” presence of mind for 3 seconds and then another 3 and another and another and so on. Even if distractions arise, you can do 1, 2 or 3 seconds of ‘awareness’ anytime you notice you’re distracted. By the way, noticing you’re distracted already sounds like good progress, please don’t be too harsh on yourself. We haven’t met, but I believe you can remain aware for 3 seconds which is great and then again 3 which is also great and so on. Best of luck, friend. You’re okay and you’ll manage this 3 second practice with ease. Good luck!
I probably make Namkhai Norbu sound worse than he was, I relaize now and I did then, it was not important to be able to pick up on what he wanted us to do, even now there are many fine points I just don't get at all. It doesn't matter, I know I got introduced to my real nature in a very obvious way numerous times because of his intention. I realized too that I had been introduced to my nature before previously by other teachers I didn't understand what it was that was happening to me and now I see that what happens with others. You cannot want for anything else really. I guess I just felt it was so amzingly detailed sounding the whole thing coming from Joe. You have to sit through many hours and many retreats with Namkhai Norbu to be able to say what Joe said. I am working with a Drikung Kagyu teacher weekly on Mahamudra and that is helping me so much but I am still facing very heavy obstacles of not being able to stay present. But I do vajrayana practices to increse merit I make daily aspiration prayers I ask tara and Guru Rinpoche to help me and they help but I need too much help I think for one lifetime. @@Honoringlife108
Thank you for your reply. Best of luck with your Dharma endeavours. I'll listen to the podcast soon and see if I can align with Joe's clarity as you did.@@shemusmcquillaide
Well, its clear in the regular sense, I don't know if its clarity in Dzogchen sense, he does a good job of outlining keypoints of Namkhai Norbu's teachings, or that is how I felt a few days agao just after listening.@@Honoringlife108
oh man practice communicating the story
In the About section of your website under Contemplative Disciplines it states:
After winning a young writer’s award for his first novel at 14, Steve met and was later apprenticed to a Christian mystic and writer from the Celtic tradition of Christianity.
I was wondering if you have discussed this in a video or would be open to elaborating on this experience and if you might recommend resources on Celtic Christian Mysticism.
Thank you.
Hi Ryan, I recently talked a bit about this here: ruclips.net/video/bAljh8XOSRk/видео.htmlsi=XZNW-4OhwJibI1ou&t=2640
As for Celtic Christianity and its practices, the "Celtic Christianity" wikipedia article is actually a pretty good place to start and has lots of further reading in the references.
How could anyone ever know if a "hidden yogi" is "practicing diligently" ?
Funny, no ?
🙂
