I cannot believe how ahead of their time that Kraftwerk was. Every time, I listened to them, they have this timeless quality to their music. I only have their mid 70’s albums but those albums were sick great.
Thank you for sharing your love for Kraftwerk. The first time i heard of them was on the Movie Breaking. The scene where Turbo was Popping and Locking to Tour De France. I was around 10 years old and thought I was listening to a Electronic Funk Band. The track is so Mesmerizing that as of today I still listen to it. Their Music is so Timeless. R.I.P. When I was 12 I found Ralf und Florian in a Thrifty's music bin. I didn't know what it was but the cover fascinated me. I still love them 46 years later. I am saddened by his passing. A musical great.

Thanks for sharing your collection and memories. I'm a lot younger than you, born in 1977, I discovered Kraftwerk in summer of 1990 and was completely blown away when I heard it for the first time. And I still remember the summer of 1992 - our class went to England for a short trip (just a week - oh btw. I'm german) and in a record store I've found a copy of RADIO ACTIVITY and that album was probably my soundtrack for the entire summer of 1992. I listened to it endlessly, over and over again - it was gigantic, I loved the overall very dark, melancholic tone.

Having had the honor of seeing Florian perform live in 2004 with Kraftwerk i must say i was shocked to hear of his passing. His legacy will sound on for Centurys to come.
I only learned of this through this video. All the greats are dying. Bowie, Cohen, Petty, Prince...... the list gets longer and longer. Thanks for this great video and telling us your personal story and relation to it. It must have been amazing to see them live.

Very nice sir, I've been a fan since Autobahn and they (along with Tom Waits) are the two bands/artists that I've always wanted to see live but haven't. I have that neon green 45 of Pocket Calculator also, I would have to say that Computer World is my favorite overall, followed by Man Machine. I was a roadie in my younger days and I used to work for a band that would have us play the song Computer World over the pa system as their intro music. Nice tribute there to a pioneer...RIP Florian.
RIP Florian Schneider. I grew up listening to Kraftwerk. Sad to think that the originals have come to and end. "Electric Cafe" was the first album that I had ever heard by Kraftwerk and I have to completely disagree that it was their worst album. Even though I never really heard that it was popularly regarded as their worst?! In fact I think it was their best! So memorable and so original. They never made an album that was as engaging in my opinion. "Computer World" was close though.
Hey just to pick up on your mention of how the 'originals' have come to an end. Ralf Hutter is very much alive and active. In fact the last time I saw Kraftwerk Ralf was last to leave the stage and, being near the front, I could see tears in his eyes as he absorbed the huge applause. Good old Ralf. Florian will be a huge loss to Ralf and I wouldn't be surprised if it might trigger some activity in tribute or homage to him.

It was a very very bad time for me. Kraftwerk for have been so important and very inspiring for me. I adore their very strong and unique discography. The beautiful thing about them is that they're always being themselves making original music that no one every tried achieving the music. I had played a lot of tracks from some of their albums and it still hits my inspirations for me and hits home. To a legend like the rest of the band especially with Michael Rother, Klaus Dinger etc.
"Klingklang" is my favorite piece of music by Kraftwerk. I profiled it on my channel a few months back. "Pineapple Symphony" is my second favorite. Their third album, Ralf und Florian, is my favorite overall.
Electronic Cafe is one of my all-time favorite albums, especially Musiq Non Stop!! The entire 1st side is a masterpiece!! I remember when I was a kid in the mid 70's and my older Brother brought home the Man Machine album and I loved We Are The Robots!!

I really love them too, a lot because of the big portals they opened for me to a much bigger musical universe than the very small one I've been fed from Swedish radio and TV in the 60's to 80's when these pioneers did the very most for German culture. I think it was Ralph who was the creative one, mainly, while Florian searched the world for new musical instruments, was on many electronic instruments shows, met Robert Moog, and so on. I think a lot of the robot voices, like in Autobahn, was thanks to Florian. The news about his death made me sad too.
Athough my favourite band is NEU!,...Kraftwerk was a very important part of my life and musical, lets say, "education",...very very sad news,...my heart is broken in two,...yesterday i posted some condolences in Michael Rother's facebook (ExKraftwerk/NEU!) saying among other things that in the last years Kraftwerk is more Ralfwerk than Kraftwerk, for me they were like the electronic Beatles, with all the original members (Florian,Ralf,Wolfgang & Karl Bartos) and now is impossible a comeback of the real band,...and Claudia Schneider-Sleben gave me a "like" with a heart form...sorry for my crappy inglish,..Cheers from Barcelona,...
The sad thing about Kraftwerk other than the loss of Florian, of course, is that Ralf Hütter disowns everything Kraftwerk had done before Autobahn. That means all their earliest material will never receive legit reissues. I've often wondered why he should think so negatively of the earliest material. Tangerine Dream never disowned any of their pre-Phaedra releases meaning their first four albums received tons of legit reissues through the years.
Some musicians are so plagued by their perceived "ineptitude" of their early work that they forget that it helped form their more current sound. In Ralf's case I don't know why he feels compelled to bury Kraftwerk's early material, but I suspect it's because he believes it is at odds with the band's famous image and look. Either way, at least for us dedicated music fans it lends us some secrecy.

I have everything they ever did - great up to 1981, that’s their peak for me. Also have most of their worldwide singles as well - including a BBC copy

"Tone Float" was just reissued on Vinyl on "Inner Space" in Germany in 2020. You might find that at indie stores or "discogs".
