Fun fact about fallen down: The original song IS actually out of tune. The key of the song sits somewhere between D and D flat major. Toby fox intentionally did this to make the song feel more "real(and imperfect)". There is a lot of metaphors and hidden meanings that can be drawn from this fact. This is only one of many examples as to why toby fox is such a great composer. Not many would even come across the idea to detune their whole song. This is actually why I personally haven't learned to play Fallen Down yet. Either way I play it it doesn't evoke the same feeling as the original. Most tutorials and music sheets tell you to play the song in D major but I personally prefer it played in D flat major because it takes on a more darker tone to it that fits more to the original.
But doesn't out of tune mean that the notes are not following a certain frequency pattern between each other? I mean, it sits between D and D flat major, but the notes are still in tune with each other, unlike seen in this video, where the notes can't really harmonize. But still, very interesting comment 👍

There's a haunting beauty to the sound of an antique, out of tune piano playing music. It sorta sounds like it's stuck between timescapes, left in an eternal abyss.
It sounds timeless, yet long past in the future unknown, for the cycling of eternities while everything else slowly fades, as memories of past times disappear, and new ones are born. Like a flower bulb, it grows from the seed and lives, to show its petals of beauty, before it withers back to the ground, bitten by frost, only to come back up again when spring gives it a new hope to be reborn.
It sounds more genuine when it's slightly out of tune, like a sweet ol' grandma that's trying her best. She doesn't have much, but she loves you with all her heart

its not technically detuned, undertales ost uses the 24 tone key system, basically where the amount of notes are stretched to where there are 24 notes instead of 12. you would get pretty much the same results though by just tuning an entire piano by like 60 cents off though

I HAVE A PIANO JUST LIKE THIS! It’s about 102 years old it’s survived the Galveston hurricane and many other floods it’s keys are yellowing and some keys are chipped but the sound it makes may be out of tune but absolutely beautiful what makes it 4x as creepy is the old photos of ancestors and Antique items that my family has passed down like old oil lamps and candles or tea pots but the smell of the piano is what gets me all the time. It smells like lavenders. The original owner of the piano which was one my ancestors use to wear perfume that smells of lavenders.

A feeling of melancholic nostalgia, like you've remembered something or someone that's been gone for a long time is never coming back. The memories still bring a kind of happiness, now laced with a minor sadness.
i’ve been feeling really down recently, getting out of bed is getting harder and harder. i keep finding myself coming back to this video, something about it makes me relaxed, lets me close my eyes and forget about the outside world for a few seconds. the out of tune and beaten down piano somehow after all these years sounds even better than a brand new one. the chaos coming together to make beauty, it makes me want to keep going. thank you
I found this song kinda sad, but also so wholesome. Hearing it on an old out of tune piano makes me wanna cry but also makes me keep replaying it. I'm so sensitive , i was kinda crying a bit while making this reply, but I hope you are happy knowing that I hope you feel good.
I relate to you my friend, I am also not doing my best and this video made me remember happy little me first discovering Undertale, and how I got attached to Toriel in my first play through.
Honestly, coming from an ex-piano player, and now working to become a small online writer/author Fallen Down somewhat gives me a feeling of comfort. I sometimes use fallen down while I'm writing. But I usually listen to it on the old record version, or one thats out of tune. But Fallen Down on a piano thats out of tune gives me a sense of feeling complete, its odd. Just at times how I describe myself, I may be still young. But I believe in the future I can go far with my dreams. This song honestly sounds beautiful out of tune!
I can imagine after all of the monsters escaped the underground, They made peace with the humans. And after a few generations go by and so. Some monsters come down here again on a field trip for like history class purposes and specifically in the waterfall part of the underground and game and where that piano was. some kid plays this and calls it the ,,The ancient king's ex-wife's tune’’ it sounds a bit dumb but honestly I dig it
After the pacifist ending, you and your new-found friends set out for the surface. There you spend the rest of your days, you grow up, fall in love, work on your career and move on from everything that's happened. You almost forget it all. Almost. One day you look out the window of your home (the same one that saw you grow up and grow old) and glance at mt. Ebbot, reminiscence hits you. In your old age, you once again venture out for the mountain, you could never forget the way. You enter through what once was the barrier and start making your way back where it all started. You cross New Home and shudder through the Judgement Hall, you walk carefully through the Core, you take the fastest path through Hotland. When you reach Waterfall, you make sure to check up on the old piano. Sure enough, it's still there. You play a few notes and for the rest of your journey the old, nostaligic tunes don't leave your head. Throughout Snowdin you start to remember all the things that happened over those few days that changed your life. You can't help, but smile as you remember all the friends you made here. Finally, you reach your mother's old home and although passing through the basement brings back some bad memories, you still feel nostalgic for the place. You make your way to the kitchen, making sure there's no chocolate or butterscotch cinnamon pie left over (you'd do anything to taste it again). You look through Toriel's old books, now covered in dust and you sadly smile at the now dead water sausages. As you look around the room you think about how many years have passed and how much has changed throughout them. It's hard to believe the kid that once slept in that tiny bed is now you. As you make your way down the hall you remember your mother and her favourite songs. She always stuck to the same classics, one in particular keeps playing in your head, somewhat distorted by your imperfect memory. Finally, you reach an old mirror, you look at yourself as this house has never seen you before. You chuckle softly at the image. Despite everything, it's still you.
Ayo this coment just vibe checked me, this is really good writing pal, thank you i actually haven't felt like this from anything Undertale related in years
This sounds like the epitome of looking back on what you thought was a nice childhood, and then when you think really hard you realize you were the problem child and everyone slightly resented you.
While this is one of the game songs i like the most, this one feels like a fading memory, such an incredible part of my childhood, slowly being forgotten by most people and replaced by newer games, undertale wasn't just a game, it's a masterpiece.
This makes me feel like i've got lost in some place i've never really seen but gives me a sense of familiarity and intimacy. It's like warm and cool at the same time.
The feeling of despair after falling down, but also the coziness of a mother by your side. The out of tune notes is the despair after that fall, that fall that was supposed to take your life, but didn't, and the happy melody shows the coziness that Toriel and the Ruins represent along with its inhabitants.
This feels like a very Atmosphere-accurate rendition of the song, given you’re in ancient ruins cut off from the rest of the Underground when this song plays- or just outside them
my childhood piano was a gift from cousins. it didnt fit in their new house, so we gave them our keyboard. i think it was out of tune the day we got it. this vid makes me think of home. ive moved twice since then, its nice to remember the days of coming home from school and playing around writing my own little compositions.
My phone going almost 4 years strong with many memories just broke today and the screen has several lines bleeding through it with black holes on 2 corners that change color/shape when u interact with the phone. This video being the first one I’ve watched with my broken but working phone really fits the situation I feel, and made me feel better and I’ve come to terms with this phone.
When my old computer broke down for good, I literally cried because it was my first music-making computer and I had put so much of my own soul into it. It hurt as much as if my own soul had died.
i love it because despite how it's out of tune and sounds a bit off, it still holds the tune of the song. its mistakes make it feel real, like a living thing.
Here's few first sentences from my "book" I wrote while I was listening to this: * ... * Where are you right now? * What is this piano playing in the background? * What are you lying on? * Or are you even lying? * You don't know. * The only thing you know is that your eyes are closed. * The piano becomes louder and louder and more familiar. It makes you curiosity bigger. This video gave me motivation. Thanks, you're underrated!!
This music easily describes the words 'saudade' and 'hiraeth'. melancholic and bittersweet but without knowing what it reminds you of. it's..hauntingly mesmerizing
This sounds like how I remember undertale. It's an old and out of tune memory, a ghost of the story. It's been a long time and it feels out of grip and far. Yet you still feel the DETERMINATION and FEELINGS. ♥️ this is cringe.
That ain't cringe, it's just nostalgia. It ain't a good emotion to wallow in, but it's not a bad one to have just a bit of, so embrace it. It's why we're all watching this, after all.
I feel like every melody you heard during your childhood slowly goes out of tune in you memory so I guess hearing it played out of tune or slower sounds nostalgic because it represents how you brain tries to recreate that song from memory.
So like, I know how a piano works mechanically, but actually seeing it up close like this in action really puts the marvel of the instrument and the talent of the player into perspective.
Woah... this brings back so many good old memories from my childhood ❤️ And in the same time a tear to my eye knowing I will never go back to these carefree times

reminds me of how my grandma used to play, thanks man :)
thats the sweetest thing
Is this an insult to your grandma

A feeling of melancholic nostalgia, like you've remembered something or someone that's been gone for a long time is never coming back. The memories still bring a kind of happiness, now laced with a minor sadness.
Nostalgy of the song makes you filled with determination.
The out of tune sound actually makes it sound more beautiful. After all this time, the piano is fulfilling what it's meant to be.
i’ve been feeling really down recently, getting out of bed is getting harder and harder. i keep finding myself coming back to this video, something about it makes me relaxed, lets me close my eyes and forget about the outside world for a few seconds. the out of tune and beaten down piano somehow after all these years sounds even better than a brand new one. the chaos coming together to make beauty, it makes me want to keep going. thank you
despite everything, the sun still shines. :)
;
I found this song kinda sad, but also so wholesome. Hearing it on an old out of tune piano makes me wanna cry but also makes me keep replaying it. I'm so sensitive , i was kinda crying a bit while making this reply, but I hope you are happy knowing that I hope you feel good.
Despite everything, it's still you. Even if I don't know you, I'm proud of you for pressing forward.
Keep pressing on ❤️ Theres always someone grateful that you get out of bed in the morning
Things will get better. Stay determined!
I relate to you my friend, I am also not doing my best and this video made me remember happy little me first discovering Undertale, and how I got attached to Toriel in my first play through.
*_"You can't sleep right now. There are lost memories nearby."_*
Some monsters come down here again on a field trip for like history class purposes and specifically in the waterfall part of the underground and game and where that piano was. some kid plays this and calls it the ,,The ancient king's ex-wife's tune’’
it sounds a bit dumb but honestly I dig it
should be canon
Well as long as King wont have kids he wont die.
@@waterwolf6492 maybe they get back together and a goat baby is born, asgore probably would call it togore
The ancient forgotten queen's tune
or maybe "The Lost Queen's Melody"?
Ayo this coment just vibe checked me, this is really good writing pal, thank you i actually haven't felt like this from anything Undertale related in years
Not goin' hold you, this made my eyes puffy. Especially at the very end after reading all of that.
Simply beautiful
makin me cry over here 🥲
Tiny bed? Sir, that bed was massive, people dont quadruple in size from when they are an older kid.
A familiar tune is being played on the piano
It fills you with determination
Instant chills- this is one of my favorite songs in the game ❤️
This sounds like the epitome of looking back on what you thought was a nice childhood, and then when you think really hard you realize you were the problem child and everyone slightly resented you.
it sounds so mesmerizing for some reason, being out of tune fits this song perfectly. This is really awesome!
This has been said before but that's because the song itself has parts that are out of tune
I love seeing new Undertale content in 2022. Keep it up :)
This is hauntingly beautiful
While this is one of the game songs i like the most, this one feels like a fading memory, such an incredible part of my childhood, slowly being forgotten by most people and replaced by newer games, undertale wasn't just a game, it's a masterpiece.
The melody of the song is just so solid overall, it can work in pretty much any key and instrument. Each one just adds a unique flavour to it
thats actually so pleasent to hear, thank you for such amazing content :)
This is one of the best versions of Fallen Down I've EVER Heard in my entire existence! Forever will I cherish this video and your skills.
even if it's out of tune, it sounds calming.
i love that chorussy sound that comes out of an out of tune piano, it’s like a 12 string guitar or an analog chorus, love it
chorussy?? 😩😩
@@quakezero8968 😳

*Hearing a familiar tone remind you of your childhood , it fills you with determination
So relaxing... I hope you can make it full ver 😩
I don’t even know how to express how much I love this.
It shows how undertale’s music is truly timeless and calming, yet so eerie at the same time.
The fact that this piano even works.. fills you with DETERMINATION.
the song itself is very beautiful but when played on this piano it’s truly enchanting
This is strangely so beautiful. If you ever learned the whole song we’d love to hear it on this piano:)
goosebumps throughout the whole thing. beautifully done
*"Do you smell that my child?"* Toriel said with a terrifying look on her face.
*The clicking sound between old piano keys fills you with DETERMINATION*
Here's few first sentences from my "book" I wrote while I was listening to this:
* ...
* Where are you right now?
* What is this piano playing in the background?
* What are you lying on?
* Or are you even lying?
* You don't know.
* The only thing you know is that your eyes are closed.
* The piano becomes louder and louder and more familiar. It makes you curiosity bigger.
This video gave me motivation. Thanks, you're underrated!!
@Jvneberries If I won't forget, of course I will!

Hey :) how goes your book?
@@thedragnz8263 well, I uh.. I am stuck on the.. chapter two.. I don't have much time to write it because of school..
This music easily describes the words 'saudade' and 'hiraeth'. melancholic and bittersweet but without knowing what it reminds you of. it's..hauntingly mesmerizing
I think Pianos just inherently always sound beautiful whether they are in tune or not.
This sounds like how I remember undertale. It's an old and out of tune memory, a ghost of the story. It's been a long time and it feels out of grip and far. Yet you still feel the DETERMINATION and FEELINGS. ♥️
this is cringe.
That ain't cringe, it's just nostalgia. It ain't a good emotion to wallow in, but it's not a bad one to have just a bit of, so embrace it. It's why we're all watching this, after all.
Do not kill the part of you that is cringe, kill the part of you that cringes
Yes, it's cringe.
i like how the old piano makes it sound more nostalgic and i love it! keep up the great work
Se siente como un recuerdo viejo y doloroso, que te atormenta pero ha pasado tanto tiempo que y no se puede hacer nada por remediarlo
This is Nostalgic like a distorted memory holding on to what's left of a lost childhood, what a shame that it won't last
I feel like every melody you heard during your childhood slowly goes out of tune in you memory so I guess hearing it played out of tune or slower sounds nostalgic because it represents how you brain tries to recreate that song from memory.
*hearing the out-of-tune piano fills you with determination.*
that is so beautiful i love this sm
can't believe they animated this piano correctly
it even looks so real
This is really well made, and gives that extremely heavy feeling of Nostalgia
Sounds like one of those pianos you’d hear in a stereotypical saloon. It’s really good too.
So like, I know how a piano works mechanically, but actually seeing it up close like this in action really puts the marvel of the instrument and the talent of the player into perspective.
It's always nice to come back to this and listen to it well
idk how to explain it but the out of tune bit makes it feel more like the ruins, which are catacombs. also just more nostalgic
Ahh this is so good , please can you do a longer version so I can sleep to it ?
you can loop the video
@@thomasthejetengine I agree, however, the loop would be noticeable
This ALWAYS brings tears to my eyes. Need an extended version...
but, then again, the fact that this is so temporary makes it feel even more special
Undertale music is gold, and you just made it better
Haunting yet nostalgic and comforting
So underrated! You deserve a sub!
this is comforting.
Woah... this brings back so many good old memories from my childhood ❤️ And in the same time a tear to my eye knowing I will never go back to these carefree times
that's really beautiful :')
The world could use every single song in this kind of cover. The vibes are so cool.
This is art... this version of the song relaxes me a lot and makes me nostalgic, I don't know why, it's a very calm song...
It sounds better on this piano because it makes the meaning of the song more stronger. Love this.
