These videos are extremely helpful. Straight forward great ideas and advice. No typical RUclips music or trendy production with B-roll mucking it all up. Content is king here and that’s what we need. Thank you Daniel.

So for me, I focus on "dog" photography. Mainly, action-type shots. I have done some dog portrait work, and really enjoy that, but don't have the space (currently), so I am not pushing that as a service yet. I have been hired for some VERY large, National-type, dog competitions, and feel I succeeded with those, but want to take it to the next level. So for the dog portrait type stuff, I have been watching all your videos, and am so inspired. Like you said, in the beginning, I had different stuff on the site (dogs, nature, community, etc...). Maybe 2 years ago, I took everything off, except dogs. I want to be known as a really good dog photographer. This video helped support that. Thank you dude.

Great video, and the timing is perfect! I recently decided to focus on headshot and portrait photography as that is my strength. I've done a lot of model shoots but they end up being "fashion portraits" for lack of a better description. Once I have my style down on the headshots and the clients are rolling in, then I'll branch out a bit more. Things like families and weddings I'm going to steer clear of.

@@DanielNortonPhotographer I thought of a question. I consider myself a "product photographer", but I like shooting food as well. Would you consider food a "product" when looking at a portfolio? To me food is a specialized form of "product", but I might be all wet (with glycerin, of course).

I love doing portraits (seniors, head shots, TFP, kids) and weddings(done 1 full one so far). I also do what ever I can to keep up practice IE:Animals, landscapes, random things. I fall into that category of my website shows a wide variety of images and I should prob revamp and show what my passion really is. Being that it is a side deal and I have a main job, I take what I can get. Nice explanation Daniel! Thanks

I have no issue with money in my "passion" for the medium. The only fee I have is for renting a studio, if I need one. And never pay a model. But my approch is the same as you describe in this presentation. Always exploring, be inform, and keep doing it. If you have a decent portfolio, a good website exposing aspect of your talent, great or small. Then people can be able to make contact. So explore and expose, but your "style"can be recognise just after many, many attemps. After all is a part of you, is your vision no matter if is an apple or a model.
    Have a good day Sir.
P.S: Quality of the video is improving. Great.

Yeah I used to shoot covers for DVD packaging a while back. They were a good strong well paying client. Then the work stopped. I did not diversify or search out a lot of other clients. Had to go back to a day job to make money to live. It sucked. Like the Kids say "You always gotta hustle". LOL! BTW, nice mood lighting in this video. The side camera footage looks like it was adjusted in post to match the main camera. If Daniel Norton was looking at the footage he might suggest a rim light to separate the subject from the background. LOL! Great Video as always. Keep them coming, =)

You really must be a mind reader! lol I was going to message you about something very similar. I'm a bit of a general photographer these days and wondering about splitting my work up on different outlets. One Instagram for weddings, one for the music stuff I do, fb page for commercial work and so on. Thing is, I just like making great images so guess I'm covering all the bases and seeing what sticks if that makes sense! Though I'd really prefer not to do weddings but they pay well! lol

Hey Daniel, I totally agree with the message. However, I’ve been told by establish photographers that I should just focus on landscape photography, because, my work is much stronger in that area. These comments were based of someone who did a cretic of my website. Where I have a page for portraits and another for my landscape photography. So, I guess my question is should I have two separate websites, or is it ok to display both my work on one page.

    • @DanielNortonPhotographer

I would think that two categories is not too much. My point was that your photographic identity should be made clear

Wow, I am totally comment spamming now, but... hopefully it can help others out there too. So, one MAJOR thing I have struggled with forever now is, my company name. When I first started, "ClicksByChris" sounded cool. Setup domain, site, etc... now, a TON TON TON of people in the dog community know me, but, I have always thought that maybe I need a name that incorporates my name, "Chris Davis". But, it's such a common name, others have sites out there (yeah, multiple Chris Davis photographers lol), I don't know if it's worth trying to rebrand, or just leave it. Maybe you can do a quick video about this to help others (and me), come to a decision.

    • @DanielNortonPhotographer

Company names are fine when reaching out to consumers but for higher tier work I recommend using your name.

Thank you, but how would one (like me in my situation), try and figure out how to use my name since there are other photographers out there with the exact name, with domain names, etc. Just throwing it out there man, hopefully I can find some guidance lol
