Interesting scenes, but I'm sorry that the soundtrack doesn't complement it as a viewer.

    Hi
It could had been a great vlog, if you had taken views from inside of the train, quality of travel seats, bunker, food amenities, view of toilets, facilities. 2 out of 5 stars.😢

hi Adriaan ... I am currently adding videos of my 1997 trip to Zimbabwe to my channel and my Trans Limpopo train trip from Harare to Pretoria on 19-20 October that year is being uploaded as we speak. I don't know how long after that trip this service ceased but is a memorable record of a train service no longer existing. Video quality is a bit dodgy as camera was an ageing old Sony handy-cam

@@adriaanpretorius3411 when you stopped in Graaff-Reinet last January where did you stay ? Have been there a couple of times including my 1997 trip through Zimbabwe and SA. I drove there from Prince Albert in Karoo via Meiringspoort Willowmore and Aberdeen. Amazing landscape in that region. I think they call it the Camdeboo ? That drive will be on my channel soon.

@@fihliwe060297 Michael I stayed over at the place "Aan die Oewer" in Graaf-Reinett booked through Lekkeslaap but wont recommend. Booked a self catering apartment but got a room only had to fill the kettle from the bathroom!! No cups for coffee. Otherwise not too shabby and no adherence to Co-vid rules.

    Is this route still operating?

Yes according to the Booking website this tourist class sleeper service still operates on Wed Fri & Sunday in both directions JHB to PE and PE to JHB. I did the JHB to PE journey on April 5-6 in 2019 when I took the video seen here. A link to timetable and fares appears below and was current as recently as 4th May 2021. www.southafricanrailways.co.za/tourist_class_times.html

@@fihliwe060297 thanks that route to PE from De Aar is special cos my late mom hails from that area.its always fascinating to me.Havent seen it by train in many years.Last was there in 1986

@@ridhwaanarries983 Yes the line from De Aar joins at Noupoort junction I think. I have driven that area in October 2003 from Graaff-Reinet to Hanover and De Aar and onto Kimberley. Only train trip I've taken through Noupoort was the one seen here. The Tourist Class train branched off at Springfontein about 5.30am in freezing cold morning. I don't think any passenger trains run from De Aar down to PE, not anymore I guess as I'm sure there were services years ago. Only trains are with freight, rural produce, fertilisers, minerals, coal etc. There were plenty of wagons in the marshalling yards at Noupoort.
