    I'm 49, and I'll never forget the day we lost Stevie Ray Vaughn to that crash. I was only 16 and absolutely gutted because it was his solo on David Bowie's "Let's Dance" that introduced us to this talent, and he single handedly brought the Blues back to the mainstream. Every blues artist -- every single one -- saw a surge in record sales after Stevie blew up. His rising tide lifted everybody's boat and as much as people flocked to him, they also flocked to JJ Cale, BB King, Howlin Wolf, Robert Johnson. The dude was just pure fire, and we lost him a year before we lost Freddie Mercury of Queen. And most people don't know this but Stevie played with the heaviest guage strings all his life and suffered from it. His finger strength is sick and he bend those strings like nothing. He's unparalleled. ❤

      I was 17 when Stevie passed. I used to take the bus to school with my best friend, Laurie, who'd been playing guitar since she was 12. She was a huge fan of Stevie's. I remember waiting for her at the bus stop one morning, and when I saw her coming up the street I realized she was crying. She had just learned about Stevie's death on the radio. I'll never forget that day.

    Stevie sadly passed in a helicopter crash just 7 years into his mainstream career. He is usually always in the top 10 guitarist conversation.which is extremely impressive for such a short career. He was a once in a lifetime guitarist and overall, a kind soul. He used to play upwards of 16 hours a day, and superglue is fingers back together when they started bleeding! He also played some of the heaviest guitar strings available, which isn't that crazy to a non guitarist, but to a guitarist, it is absolutely incredible the way he bent them. And, the craziest of all from a guitarist standpoint is that he knew hardly any music theory... The solos you heard coming from the guitar were different every time and entirely made up on the spot every time without any music theory to guide him. He is very impressive to a non guitarist, but to a guitarist, it almost makes no damn sense how he was so good. Guitarists have always tried to replicate Stevie's playing ever since he popped out of the Texas blues scene, and no one, and I mean NO ONE, has ever replicated his playing. There is something in his fingers that only a very few amount of humans have ever had, and whatever it is, it is not an aquired skill you're born with it. If Stevie had not sadly passed so early into his career... Everyone would know the name Stevie Ray Vaughan..... Next reaction has to be "Texas Flood" it is by far his most impressive performance.

    We used to visit an authentic blues bar in the Mississippi Delta, when living in Memphis.If was literally a 60 year old shack with amazing food and blues. Yes, Mabel played the piano on Thursday nights (for those that understand the reference.) One Thursday night, only about 12 people were there. It only held about 30, ( long before casinos ruined the place.) About six were with me when Stevie Ray Vaughan and Billy Gibbons wandered in. SRV had a concert in Jackson MS the next night and ZZ Top in Little Rock, so appropriate quiet place to meet. Miss Mabel waited until they had eaten and visited, when she requested they join her. They went to their vehicles and retrieved guitars and treated us to 2 hours of magic of watching masters play out of pure joy and thrilling a bar blues pianist in her 80's. God I miss the old Hollywood Cafe. The new one lacks a soul.

Johnny Copeland .. Muddy Waters .. Buddy Guy and many more. SRV had enough respect and prop's to give to each of these legends whenever he was around them on stage or otherwise. Blues, rock and jazz {read he liked jazz too!] is what Stevie 'cut his teeth on' growing up as a child. He is self-taught. Can't read music at all.
    He is also filled with ridiculous, crazy-ass talent and skill! When God was dishing out 'talent', HE 'Doubled and Super-sized' Stevie's portion.
    "Voodoo Chile" was written by Jimi Hendrix and recorded in 1968 for his {Hendrix} third album #Electric Lady Land. Jimi's version is a little rough around the edges and full of distortion. Records were produced w/mono analog recording equipment and sound boards but never lacked in clarity. The different tones of guitar distortion came from Jimi personally. Labeled a creative genius, Hendrix is considered the Granddaddy of re-introducing and infusing 'distortion' into rock music back then. Jimi will always be the OG of "Voodoo Chile" in '68 but Stevie was able to clean & polish it up and making "Voodoo Chile" one of his signature songs in 1984. Hendrix was left-handed but played right handed. he also self-taught on guitar. He couldn't read music. He would have the ct {the guitar neck faced the right} and the strings we're also wired opposite with the bass wire first on top, down to the 6th and thinnest wire. SRV also recorded 3 other Hendrix songs : 'Manic Depression', 'Little Wing' and 'Third Stone from the Sun'. However, like a young man asking a father for his daughters hand in marriage, he got in touch with Jimi's father first and asked his permission before playing/recording his sons music. Now that's respect. A true class act.
    #Black Pegasus .. When you said Stevie was "some sort of a legend" because of the viewer numbers he holds .. That is a understatement. The label 'legend' is appropriate but spoken mildly.
    Except for the 'Man upstairs', many of adoring fans look upon SRV as a God unlike any other God they have ever read about. You will see what I'm talking about if you continue down the rabbit hole. There shouldn't be any reason why ya wouldn't after you watch this video.
    I highly recommend that you react to "Texas Flood" .. "Third Stone From the Sun" .. "Little Wing" and "Lenny" LIVE at the El Mocambo. "Life Without You" .. "Couldn't Stand the Weather" LIVE at the Capital Theater. Stevie wrote "Life Without You" for his guitar maker and good friend, Charlie who had died unexpectedly from heart failure/or heart attack. I guarantee that you will be hit with a tsunami of suggestions suggesting these three songs. All his videos are good. You will never hear any song played the same way twice.
    Another reason why he is so beloved and adored is because we lost Stevie at the tender age of 35 in a freak helicopter crash on August 27, 1990 at the Alpine Valley Music Theater, East Troy, Wisconsin. It was 12:50 am, on a Monday morning. SRV, along with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and older brother, Jimmy [by 3 years] had wrapped up a two-day blues festival, with a 20+ minute jam session at the end.
    Stevie Ray and a couple members of Clapton's entourage boarded a helicopter heading to Midway International Airport in Chicago. Weather conditions we're foggy and visibility was under 2 miles. Don't forget this venue was in a valley. Two other helicopters had departed the venue prior to the third one that Vaughan was on. As the pilot lifted off, he remained low in altitude {Why?? .. Only the pilot could answer that question} and then turned southeasterly flying towards higher terrain. About 3/5 of a mile from take off, the helicopter at high velocity speed, crashed head on into the side of a man-made ski hill. Jeff Brown /pilot .. Bobby Brooks/agent .. Niguel Browne/bodyguard .. Colin Smythe/tour manager and Stevie Ray Vaughan we're on board. The coroner's report stated that all 5, including the pilot, died instantly from severe head trauma/internal injuries.
    Even though the toxicology tests came back negative for all 5 people, the FAA stated that the pilot was experienced/qualified to fly planes with instrument panels but not helicopters at the time of the crash.
    RIP Stevie Ray Vaughan 🎸

He played so much and so hard that before shows he'd fill the holes in his fingers of the neck hand, left hand in this case, with superglue. Guitar players develop callouses on their finger tips from constant play and practice, his would rip off.

      That is absolutely not true. SRV was great but far from the greatest improvisors. No comparison, not even close.

      @hesch-tag Год назад

      @@donovantaylor5707 Well in that case I don't agree with BB King. Listen to Stone free live at the Royal Albert Hall '69. Now that is improvising. Jimi created whole new songs. Improvising in blues is not that hard . Staying fresh is another story. SRV impressed certain people so much that they forget that he always stayed in the same lane. Give me a few examples where SRV really improvised without just rehashing fast licks on a different part of the neck. It might change my mind. People always go on about his version of Texas flood but it is so repetitive and predictable, it drives me crazy. Most people are just too impressed because he plays the same fast licks behind his back. Though very impressive, in the end it is just a trick to entertain the audience, just like Jimi did with his teeth (musically it doesn't add anything). SRV was great but he was not a great improvisor, no matter what his peers and friends claimed. I am open to taking back my words if you can come up with great examples.
