    • @Arkryal
      @Arkryal Месяц назад +10

I'll throw some Weight behind "Fred Bear", great song.
So Ted Nugent is a famed hunter (probably more famous now for that than his music, which says a lot). His mentor was Fred Bear, a famed bow hunter. He taught Ted how to bow hunt. The song is a tribute to Fred after his death in 1988, and Ted himself considers it the most meaningful song he's ever written.
For a long time (5-6 years), you could only really hear the song live. The recording was only available on an esoteric mail-order cassette tape with other hunting songs, so it was difficult to get a copy, and opened up a huge audience outside of his mainstream rock fans. It didn't get published on any of his official albums until 1995. So it was a legendarily coveted bootleg before streaming and music sharing online. You were lucky if you knew a guy who knew a guy who had a copy of a copy of a copy, lol.
Very catchy song, the lyrics are excellent. Just all around a great song.

What younger people today totally miss about these long rolling rock songs is that they were meant to be listened to while laying on the floor in your room with a bunch of floor pillows around, your head by the speaker, or with headphones on, maybe one of those wavy lava lights on and just zoning out, riding the wave of the guitars, letting your imagination run wild. Possibly enhanced by some grass 😅. But it was total head space music that was supposed to take you on a magic carpet ride. Others that come to mind are Slow Ride by Foghat, Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd or Whole Lotta Love by Led Zeppelin.
Additionally, we didn't just listen to a single song, we listened to the whole album. A LP album was just that, a suite of music that was meant to be listened to as a whole picture. If ya weren't a teenager in the 70s, i feel sorry for ya, it was the best, and too bad for us, we didn't realize it.

Let Uncle Ted guide your journey! 😆 Derek St. Holmes was the singer on this one. Nugent was all about the guitar in most of his early stuff. His vocals are best heard on songs like Cat Scratch Fever. This song was about him throwing middle fingers at the record industry. They decided that he was unmarketable as long as he insisted on doing his own style of music.

      I was in junior high.
I never seen so many blonde chicks in my life.
      But months before that concert.
I saw Teddy open up for Jonny Winters.
The concert was at the San Bernardino community college auditorium.
      It was real small.
      It sat maybe 200 people.
Teddy came out and just rocked the place.
But Jonny Winter came out with his guitar and a bar stool.
And started playing the blues and totally blew teddy away.
      It wasn't even close.
It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
And I've been to well over a hundred concerts.
Oh, and by the way. I paid $ 7.50 for those tickets.
But you are correct, back then you could have a great time on the cheap.

He had a 'FU' relationship w/record company's that did not appreciate his music, and refusing to sign him up. However .. Nugent refused to be silenced and finally found a producer at Epic Records that believed in his talent, creativity and love of music just as much as Ted himself did. He stated in a interview that after signing w/Epic and "40 million albums later .. the rest of the industry can kiss his a$$!"

You are right, Ted's music is an experience! This is his masterpiece. Ted is an anti drug, pro life, pro American, red , white and blue patriot. A Conservative, Republican, outdoorsman, hunter, marksman, 2nd Amendment guy. He wrote a book called Red, White and Ted! Check out Cat Scratch Fever next!

I fell asleep once with my headphones on. Surprising since the volue was up pretty high. I awoke to this song, and almost found myself in a trance. I remember this from high school, 1975, but I hadn't heard it since then. What a beast he was on guitar. And the bassline is entrancing.

The vocals are Dereck St. Holmes, Rob Grange is the bassist and Cliff Davies is on drums. My first photos pass were for Ted Nugent shows. I got them from Ted's crew, back then I had no idea it would eventually lead to me making my living as a professional rock photographer. So I owe a lot to Uncle Ted and the boys. They treated me great!

I saw Uncle Ted in concert when I was 16 years old. I’m 57 years old now, I still listen to Ted and when I do it’s always loud, very loud!! He should have been inducted to the RR hall of fame a long time ago but because of his political beliefs he’s been looked over. He’s an incredible guitar player and performer. He’s true to himself and does not give two shits what people think. Gotta love Uncle Ted. Side note, rumor has it Uncle Ted recorded this in one take!! Have fun!!

You have seen him on Rogan so you probably already know he’s an interesting cat😂. I have read one of his books as well, “God, Guns and Rock and Roll. Interesting stuff. I’m not that much older than you but I definitely grew up on this music and I remember all of the feelings that gave me when I first heard it and I can’t imagine having that experience for the first time when I was 40. It’s going to be really cool to hear this music for the first time at an age we are old enough to understand it and respect it for what it is. Man the 60s 70s and 80s were awesome time for music!
