i dont comment on anything, but whenever, if you ever see this, know that someone thinks you're something damn special, something that this world is in sore need of, thank you, friend, safe travels wherever your path may take you.
I never comment either. But I wanted to share that I broke into tears reading what you wrote. I haven’t heard anyone say those words to me in over four years. I was starting to think my usefulness in the world had run its course. Crazy, how we can survive for so long on “emergency mode” without hearing so much as a drop of authentic and sincere encouraging words, and how deep an impact it can have if a person is so lucky as to be on the receiving end of that. The drought of encouragement in the world bothers me on a very deep level… and getting a taste of that reminds me why I try to be so generous with my heartfelt comments and compliments in the first place. I’m ashamed that I didn’t realize how desperately I needed that for myself. And to be honest, I was starting to question the value of continuing to do so with nothing in return. It gets exhausting living for others. But it makes a difference. Even if people never tell you that, it makes a difference. So keep up the good fight. I’ll try and do the same.

@@JackBanjoman Yo! What a pleasant surprise seeing you here Hobo's Lullaby is definitely in my radar. It's a little too difficult right now though.. I've tried and been humbled haha
Rest in peace, I hate to see him gone. I'd also like to mention Warren Barnes, another kind and inspirational man gone too early. Murdered by a coward who will never know the happiness that Warren did.
This is better, in my opinion, than any cover of this song that I can find on streaming services. Closed my eyes and just felt this song. I really meant something
This made me cry, I just with I could be out there and doing all this, though I am only a teenager and just barely so, and I have a loving and sopportive family, I feel so alone
Look up wwoof on google. You can travel cheap, get a free meal everyday, and have a free place to stay if you volunteer on farms as you go. Just go wander on your off days and the in the afternoons - experience and meet the people in each place instead of just exploring the land. Did this in my early 20s - best time of my life. You organize everything with each farmer personally before you go, and they background check everybody. Really awesome. I know multiple people who rode their bikes across america doing this too.
When I was younger, my grandfather would play bedtime songs on his guitar for my brother and I. That was a long time ago, we don't stay over anymore, but late at night, this gives me the same comfort. Thank you.
As a tired Hobo- I quite honestly couldn't expect the timing any sooner, this is beautiful and the first minute I heard the tune I was enthralled. Thank you for this piece of art, very nice!
I gotta tell you man it's 1:30am in my NYC apartment and I just stumbled on your page from your Big Rock Candy video, only to find you just posted this 2 days ago. It's beautiful, and it takes me back to 10 years ago when I first saw a video of Marc Nerenberg playing it, which was one of the first few early RUclips videos that inspired me to learn banjo. Thank you for sharing this. What tuning do you have your banjo in?
This is the guy who got me into playing the Banjo. Saw his "Big Rock Candy Mountain" video and knew I wanted to learn to play. I've been going strong with it for a while. So thanks, Square Toe Joe. I appreciate the videos!
Come back very often to hear you play this, the songs plays in my head 24/7 and im very grateful for it. Thanks for putting this amazing version out into the world
Texan living in NY. this is a beautiful rendition. it was one of the first songs i learned to play on the guitar, i haven’t heard it again in years. keep playing you are incredibly talented
I grew up listening to folks play guitar and all sorts of string instruments. Country, Rock, Folk, Etc. This made me want to pick up my banjo and guitars. This put my heart to rest, just like my mom sang to me as a baby. Wonderful performance. Cheers, hope this stuff keeps coming :)
I hope more people see this - but in the meantime, I feel special to be one of the first few.
We are witnessing the dawn of a legend
I can’t believe it has only 1500 views!
I found this around 2k, now it’s at 3.9k. I am so happy I found this video.
Yup, glad to say that I was one of the early few

There are no police in heaven? I always figured that was likely.
I dedicate this very fitting song in memory of Hobo Shoestring who recently passed.
I was just about to comment that same thing. May be rest in peace.
amen
anyone know if Utah Phillips is still around?
Rest in peace, I hate to see him gone. I'd also like to mention Warren Barnes, another kind and inspirational man gone too early. Murdered by a coward who will never know the happiness that Warren did.

Somewhere in that canyon, we all saunter. Listening to the Hobos lullaby while we wander.
this is what youtube was meant for
Reminds me of my Grandpa a drunk but wise old man, had his fair share in life. Always playing music, he taught me my guitar
His songs make me miss home and feel at home at the same time. Hell of a voice
Never delete this, phenomenal rendition

Hobo here, feels. Forgot to mention beer.
This song feels profoundly kind. Thanks for sharing.
Theres something about this scenery, the soft wind at times, the soft voice and the sweet banjo playing. It Feels Good
