No, use air pressure to push the valve up. Get a leak down tester and the air will push the valve up. Sounds like you lost the valve keepers also. Pull the oil pan and find the missing parts.
@@Rynos9Lives do you happen to know if you need to be on #1 TDC for a cam swap? Some say yes, some say No as the cam and crank sensor control and you just need dot to dot

Very helpful video. My Haynes manual says to set TDC on the compression stroke using a screw-in compressor gauge which I don't have. Thanks.
Timing marks help ALOT also.
Plus, watching the intake valve close, tells you that the next up stroke is compression.

@@teabag402for cam swap: there's a video where a guy inserts wooden dowel rods from the front to swap out the cam. Might be worth a watch.
If there is play from side to side but not up and down is that the rocker arm is bad
@@djnaughtyboy971 shouldn't be a bad rocker arm. They have some side to side play.
