that fact that these queens got into complete drag and THEN had to put 4 men who had no idea what was going on into drag is a TALENT

It's actually kinda disgusting on buzzfeed's side how they edited the original to inforce stereotypes and say "haha guys in dresses are funny" instead of showing the true art of drag and how people who do drag are well people
Yea, It always felt like Buzzfeed wanted to have it both ways of "Oh, like at these people, they're so weird haha" and "Omg we're so progressive and woke".
The difference is stark. You can tell there's an education and breaking stereotypes part to it but it's clearly done with a lot of love.
@@ebbandflowph This version is a lot more fun than just funny. Having seen this I'd love to give it a go, something about the anonymity of the makeup and outfit makes the thought of it not scare me, the way performing as myself would.
Yeah, this version just seems more sincere about what goes into drag artistry rather than "omg men wear dresses that's not normal lol". It's way funnier and genuinely a lovely documentary about more masculine-ish men becoming drag divas and i love it.
Indeed. And the thing is, the queens already have an excellent balance of not taking themselves too seriously (which I think is important in any artwork) and respecting their true selves and the hard work they put in. If Buzzfeed had just showed these performers genuinely, they would have found a perfect balance already.

Yes! Their drag mother's intros were so amazing.
Definitely! Did not know that Cupcake Canne was a ballet dancer, but it totally makes sense with the way she moves. Also, knowing that Misty Violet is the Queen of Stupid makes her pairing with Keith even better. You can see how Mayhem and Eugene connected, too, given what he said about his family being slow to accept him and Eugene struggling with his sexuality. It's nice to know they're still friends.
This is crazy closeted to the internet Eugene seems so different. Like he seems confident but not as much as he is now. It’s crazy to see how much has changed since this was filmed

I always saw the drag video as an awakening for him. Like I saw him in other Buzzfeed videos before this but he seemed more sure of himself after this video
The fact that he and Mayhem Miller remained friends after this, and Eugene found community with other drag performers these days is absolutely heartwarming. I don't know if this was truly his introduction to drag, but either way, it warms my heart to see him discovering himself through this

Obviously I have no way of knowing if he was for sure cheating during this shoot, but I think the other commentor just pointed it out because of that possibility.
I really love the extended cut. Y’all turned this video from “wow look at these guys in heels wowie that’s silly” to something genuinely informational. Shows how much care they put into the actual process
Okay, so since the original drag video was released...
- Keith and Becky have gotten married.
- Ned and Ariel have had 2 sons.
- Eugene has come out and looks somuch happier and comfortable in his skin.
- Zack and Maggie have gotten engaged.
Not to mention their whole independent company move, releasing a book and merchandise, going on tour, and launching other businesses etc. :)

On rewatch, (1) Keith is such a great performer and I love how expressive he is. He's a true showman. And (2) I was wondering if Eugene had come out to the queens here because it seemed like these might be people he could confide in, and I'm so glad that halfway thru it was revealed he did (or at least was open over what he was going thru) because it means he had people who knew and were there for him while being in the closet. This was probably such a great and cathartic episode for him.
I think he was actually dating Matt at the time of recording. Matt later mentioned that he picked Eugene's drag name

It is an art form tho. It combines both the aspects of art, history, culture, the battles people had to face and having fun, strutting down a runway, and boys dancing around in heels. They aren’t just dressing like women, they’re creating this whole character and personality and performance. The makeup just in itself along with all the creativity it takes makes it an art form alone. I get what you’re saying, it’s not this uptight thing it’s fun and messy, but please don’t discredit everything drag has meant and still means.
If Taylor Swift can re-record her first 6 albums, the Try Guys should be able to re-upload all their old BuzzFeed videos.

Coming back to this after “Drunk Gays Explain Drag Race to Straights”, it’s wonderful and beautiful to see the growth of Eugene. From this, to his “I’m Gay” project, to his “My Longest Relationship” video, to wearing heels/nails for a day, doing more exploration with makeup, the MET gala, even taking his own father to a drag show. In the years we’ve been able to see and know Eugene, it’s beautiful and wonderful to see him come into himself and openly express love for the people around him and himself. I am so so proud of him as a human for the growth he has shared with us, and especially proud of the village he chooses to surround himself with. Zach, Ned, and Keith embrace this community with open arms, not to mention the Try Team and Try Partners. The willingness to be educated and informed about things that might not affect them, but someone they love, is astounding.
As a rather insecure woman... is it bad that I wish *I* could do drag? I just love the confidence and fun of these ladies and just wish I could get like a small piece of it
No! It's not bad at all! You could become a drag king if you want, which is basically this but reversed so woman to man. Do what you want if it makes you confident! I'd bet you would look awesome.

Drags queens are amazing. I am asexual, but when I went to this one drag performance, and one of the queens made eye contact with me as she took my dollar, I could've melted into the floor right there. This was several years ago, and I will never forget that moment. ❤️
Its so interesting comparing the videos because 25:26 it's very obvious it's Eugene's choice, he went down the line of spices and chose one he liked and reworked it into something that he liked and everyone liked it
But in the buzzfeed video it was just Eugene running through random names ( Kore Ann and Kay Drama ) and it's Miller who gives him his name and he has sort of a dumbstruck look on his face

It's is a community that provides a safe space for people to express themselves, but this also gives great insight into the struggles that still existed in 2014. I can't thank the try guys enough for always going above and beyond to do such an amazing job exploring different communities, minorities, artforms, and ways for personal expression. From a clinical therapist to you, thank you for providing our youth and young people a safe space to learn and build community always! ❤❤❤
