@@petar1499 Well, not exactly. Vegans aren't mentally ill. But they are religious though. It's amazing how they're so arrogant that they feel entitled to claim their religion must be used as a universal basis for morality, under the premise that animals have "rights".

@Icy Craft What do you mean by "Why can’t you leave people alone?" You're the one that replied to my passive comment, I didn't harras you actively. And even if, then I'm sure the uncomfortable feeling that I would cause upon someone by "harrasing" them with just open and honest questions for a rational conversation, is nothing compared to the uncomfortable feeling, unimaginable suffering and needless misery that the innocent animals have to go through their whole life because of that persons dietary lifestyle. That's a red herring. That's not being aware of the gravity of the situation. After all, the only reason the stuff in this video happens is because people want to eat that way. Thus I imagine most vegans try to solve this problem at the root. Namely by convincing the general people, rising awareness, asking to eat healthier, etc.
To the second part of your comment: It's absolutely true that this world isn't perfect, that there is lots of injustice, oppression, needless suffering and misery. Most people are aware of that and have no other choice to accept this truth, you're absolutely right. But doing nothing is ignoring the issue. This is precisely why ethical activist work to ask people to live kinder and more caring is so important. After all, I'm sure you would also not want to be exploited, tortured and kept in slavery for your whole life. The thing is that we didn't choose to be born human or one of these animals in the video. You're just lucky, they're just unlucky. But it doesn't need to be that way. And that's the clue. If people from the begining didn't care about moral emergencies and just took everything for graps fatalistically, then we would still live in a world without no laws, no funtional judiciary system, or any kind of progress concearning quality of life at all. So more power to the activists, as far as I'm concerned.
Sorry for the long reply, must be a pain to read, but if you wanna be scientifically honest and accurate, theres no way around long texts.

It makes sense that you like cheese, it's got natural chemicals from the mother that releases endorphins in the calf's brain that keeps it coming back for more milk. Except, it's not in the calf... it's in your body. There's no reason why you would, of course, choose cheese if it didn't create this effect and like the taste, so, whenever you're confronted with cheese again just connect the animal to the product. After nearly being vegan for a year, the smell of cheese actually makes me gag and nearly vomit. Just choose some vegan cheese and know you've not hurt an animal in the process this time.

These people - even though they are appalled by violence towards dogs - pay for the same torture, murder and abuse of cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys and fish.
This contradiction, that only certain species of animals matter, and that we can treat these animals the way we want as long as it's for food, is very much a thing. And that is what carnism is.
Carnism is a subset of speciesism.
Both carnism and speciesism are notions that the human species can treat other species the way we want because we are superior to them. Carnism is related to food, and speciesism to all exploitation of animals for all purposes.

Maybe you didn't. I went vegan because the animal agriculture industry is destroying the planet that my kids are going to grow up on. Going vegan is the most effective way to directly reduce your impact on the environment and climate change, as well as depriving the industry of your support.

@Marija I dont understand what your saying. But "push it upon others" is a term, a believe or better a defense stance of meat eaters to switch the attention to the "bad vegans". And i think the current society is far from normal. When i remember correct, the human diet in the early human history was 90% plantbased, so i would say vegans are more normal than the majority of the current "normal" diet plan. And i think that alot of vegans act not like "i come first". I think people who are going vegan for ethical reasons have a better build brain in the "Parietal lobes" area, this area is for empathy. I never use the term good or bad person or human but at the end, they are just bad humans, thats it. 99% of my colleagues are ignorant people who dont even think about any of there actions. But at the end no one cares what we are saying :D, just stay vegan and give people in your personal circle a little hint about what they doing to the planet, animals and so on.

I don't know what happened with my journey, I was vegan for almost 5 years, and after a sexual assault that I'm still awaiting the trial for, I fell into a depression. One day I just started eating meat again, it's like I was so disconnected from reality that I didn't grasp my beliefs about the whole thing. Which is ironic, watching this now I wonder why I didn't feel closer to veganism morals after everything I had been through. I am proud to say I have been vegetarian for almost a year, and by new years I hope to go vegan again, for the last time. I feel like a vegan, I agree with the morals of it and how important it is to live in your truth (Colleen Patrick-Goudreau is wonderful for guidance in this arena) and I am so glad that there are caring, strong vegans out there like Ed who continue to do what they do for the animals. I am thankful for videos like this, and I do want to be better. It's hard juggling veganism and mental health, I truthfully felt so traumatized the first time I went fully vegan. Veggie going Vegan here, just wanted to clear a few things up: In India it differentiates in most state what kind of cattle is killed. Only in the right most states is where cows aren't protected because they are of a different breed than the "religious" ones, so to speak. Killing female cattle is illegal almost all over but it varies where you can kill bulls and calves. Either way, 55% of our milk come from Buffalos and those are the ones that after "completing their purpose" are sent to slaughterhouses, where all the beef or rather "carabeef(buffalo meat)" is exported to different countries and the skin used as leather domestically, hence giving us the "honour" of ranking 2nd place in beef exports for a while now, if not keep on fluctuating between 1st and 5th place. Our "beef ban" just replaced one animal for another, and that doesn't mean that our cows, regardless of our Monopolic Amul Company Milk Industry(Along with Mother Dairy and Go), don't suffer behind closed doors. Few places here where you can get beef. And if you're ever caught getting cow beef beware of the Hindu Cow vigilantes in the upper states, they won't hesitate to kill you, but what's worse is that they may take pleasure in it if you're Muslim. Happy to see Ed applying India in his videos. Just wished that he'd make a video with a sole focus on India, but it'd be hard since very little cruelty information gets out, but definitely not impossible. For example: It is common practice that after killing the buffalo calf for its milk to stuff it's head and body with hay and balm to trick the mother into thinking that the calf is still there and produce milk. Of course the audience, especially from the Indian community, may have backlash, but since when has that ever stopped him before?

Challenge those around you to do the same! I've noticed since being vegan that when I tell ppl I am, they say things like "oh I don't eat much meat anymore." They question their own moral codes because they too, innately I believe, want to do the right thing for their health and nature. I didn't know that becoming vegan would affect others this way.

In a life, where all of us continuously consume products that are made from milk and eggs throughout our lives, it is very difficult to eventually make a shift. Majority of products in supermarkets will have milk or eggs in them: all pastries, cookies, many brands of bread, etc. Vegan options even in the western world are still very scarce. It is just mind gobbling that we all grow up being a part of this cruelty without having any thought of it. It is in fact quite ridiculous that we let ourselves go like this, normalising this inhumane cruelty and systematically shutting our eyes off the reality.

    • @user-dt3hk7fu8w

I'm no international dairy expert, but there's just certain practices that are universal. Impregnating the cow, removing the baby, then killing the cow after milk production. No one is going to keep these animals as companions, it's a business at the end of the day. Cows can live up to 25 years in nature. That's a lot of food, water, land use and medical care if they weren't killed. So I'm sure in Indian, what you just watched in this video, happens just the same there my friend.

Extreme is the way humans treat cows for their own needs. As difficult as it is to watch, thank you Earthling Ed for opening our eyes to the cruelty that goes on.

Buy milk and eggs from certain local farms where they don't pump in hormones or kill calves

My mom has a few chickens, so she gets eggs. My grampa has a few goats on his farm, so he gets milk occasionally. I don't see anything wrong with eating unfertilized eggs and excess milk, if they are obtained in this way. But so few of us have the will or the means to live outside cities, so we rely on everything to be shipped in from factories elsewhere.
Btw, my mom's hens lay eggs almost daily, more during mating season, and they are healthy and have been laying eggs for many years. She mixes their poop with the compost to fertilize her home garden.
My grampa lets the goats clear his fields for new planting - they eat everything down to the roots. He tries not to let them breed too quickly (so he separates the males and females sometimes), but otherwise lets them live their natural lifespans.

Vegetarianism is still better than nothing for those that never will go vegan, and for some people vegetarianism is a great steppingstone towards veganism. I am vegetarian myself, and basically through that I got my whole family to eat almost only vegetarian food and have greatly cut down on dairy. But they never would have gotten there, or anywhere, if the expectation was veganism. I do see that veganism is the best way, but it's unrealistic to expect from most people. I will go vegan when I'm out of school and have my own place tho.

My vegetarian roommates got so offended when I denied ordering pizza and resisting food that contain butter and ghee.
Earlier when I was a non veg and go out to eat with them, I would always eat veg food so as to not them make feel uncomfortable....but these bitches were asking me to eat chicken and dairy items.
I hate that inconsiderate behaviour when I never asked them to eat nonveg, who the hell are they to criticize me and make fun of me for being vegan.
I told them that remaining of my life I'll live as a vegan. 🙏🙏🙏

Yeah Ive noticed that with vegetarians from indian backgrounds. They have this moral superiority complex. It kills them to eat with vegans. My family (except my wife and children) are all like that. They try and mock me as well.

You really think cutting up a cucumber is the same as killing an innocent animal. Plants do not have a central nervous system which means they do not feel pain. They don’t have a brain and they don’t scream with agony like animals do when being killed which is evidence that they suffer and therefore feel pain and therefore like you do, have a central nervous system.

@Anthony Mercado i have to disagree. How can someone be "vegetarian for the animals" and then use them to get their eggs and dairy? It makes no sense. It's like saying i eat free range meat and eggs bc i care about the animals (which is something ppl actually believe).
I was a vegetarian for 2 years and in no way am I shaming vegetarians. I just wish all vegetarians' end goal was to become vegan.
And you're so close! I hope u make the switch soon:)

I have wanted to do my research on animal rights for a while. In March my college took us to a company in another city to learn about the chicken industry. It was supposedly the happiest place in the country for chickens. They sold you that the chickens were all pure white and the knew how to lower their stress levels and stuff. But then the field portion came and those were not happy chickens. They don’t kill them there, their job is to raise them and transport them so they are killed in another place. However, a lot of them were dead. They said they used antibiotics as if it was super normal (my parents are doctor, so I knew that is not ok). The chickens were filthy, some were dead and were still with the other chickens. I didn’t know if they were covered in dirt or feces and it horrified me how could they so close to their own waste. It was honestly awful. This was supposed to be the place with the best standards. It was supposed to be that place that prefers quality over quantity, which is why the land was no huge. I couldn’t even image what about the other farmers that put quantity over everything. How were those chickens living? In that place they told us that the chickens were very calm all the time cause they were happy. But they were not happy while being put in a truck as if they were potatoes. They were scared and wanted to get away. That experience made me re-evaluate my meat eating lifestyle. But I tried to make excuses for months. All the excuses of the book. I really took like five months because on top of everything veganism is not a big thing in Peru and there is not availability of vegan options. Plus everyone in my family is a meat eater, so I was scared of what they may say. The relationship between veganism and extremism was too deep. I didn’t want to be ostracised or be seen as an extremist. I was honestly scared of my family saying that I was being dumb.
Four months ago I decided to go vegetarian since it was seen as the most “normal” way to care about the animals. But I still had that little bug telling me that something was not right and it wasn’t enough. Two months ago I decided to go vegan. I watched the What the health documentary and I also watched Cowspiracy. I made it a family experience because I really wanted my family to understand why I was going vegan. I wanted to end the documentaries to finally tell them what my decision was. While we were watching, I couldn’t even see the part where they kill a duck. So my commitment was reinforced, if couldn’t even watch it on a documentary then why was it ok for me to keep eating animals? To my surprise, when the documentaries ended and I finally told them I was going vegan, my family was on board with the idea. They didn’t know about the dairy industry until that day and decided to support me completely. They didn’t go full vegan as I did, but they replaced milk with plant based alternatives, reduced considerably the amount of meat for family meals (since I couldn’t eat it) and stock the pantry with all sorts of veggies, legumes, grains and seeds. They do eat cheese on snacks or egg on their own breakfast, but they are actively looking for viable vegan alternatives so they can change that.
If I regret anything then it’s probably taking too long to take the decision. Even my parents understand now that being vegetarian is not enough, and while it may take them more time than me (they have over 50 years of habits to break down) I really makes time happy that they are enjoying the vegan food and actively making an effort to change their habits.
