Modlite PLHv2 vs Surefire Dual Fuel Comparison

- IMO, for close distances within 30 yards the Dual Fuel does a better job for wide illumination but for every distance beyond that the PLHv2 is superior in every way.
This is not a paid promotion or sponsored video. I have zero affiliation with Surefire or Modlite. I purchased both lights online at their listed prices. The Surefire I got from Arms Unlimited and Modlite from Kosher Surplus. I have ZERO affiliations with either seller
Got a modlite coming in Tuesday. Now I’ll be able to see my wife in the dark as she runs towards me to ask why I spent $300 on a flashlight!
LOL !
That's why you don't tell her ... Haha same boat
I feel like Surefire vs modlite just depends on whether you want more of a flood for shorter distances or room clearing or want a focused long throw spot for long distances. If you want something for home defense, a Nuclear hot intensely focused beam is not necessarily going to serve you better than filling the whole space with light.
Agreed. The DF is better suited for that type of use.
Great comparison. Most reviews I’ve seen show one or the other; or both at the same time moving all around. Your style gave me a chance to pause and really look at the difference between the two. It’s still Surefire for me. Looking forward to more of your gear reviews. Thank you for sharing! 👍👍
Thanks brother much appreciated 🤙The DF is a great close in light with excellent flood
This is exactly why I put my DF head on a Modlite 18350 handheld body and put my PLH V2 onto my rifle. The DF is great for searching and indoor uses. It is sufficient for handheld pistol techniques. It just isn't suitable for rifle use.
The real test would have been telling her to hide in the trees at different distances and see how long it takes to find her with each light
That would be a really good test 👍
Now modlike just has to integrate the mount into the body like the new Surefires. Good vid!
What would be even better is, modlight works with ariska on making similar product. I know of one company that makes one already for the swivel.
Get a Baldr Pivot Body from Valhalla Tactical.
Been saving for a modlite for awhile now. This just ads fuel to the fire. Thanks for the video man. I always enjoy your stuff.
Dont fall, you might hurt yourself Thanks brother 👊 BTW, the kit bundle is worth it. You get two batteries and a dual charger besides the light.
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION Im just trying to find a damn modbutton lol
@@dontfallyoumighthurtyourse4694 if you haven't found one. Big tex has the modbutton lite in stock
Great comparison
zachattack 4111 👊
Great video
Thanks!
would be nice to see plh v1 vs surefire to compare area coverage.
Done just in time for the Cloud Defensive Rein to drop.
The rein is so so so thick, its unusable in my opinion on a rifle. So damn long and bulky.
Now just go get the OKW head and be done. Keep 'em coming man! Shooters Symposium next week in TX?
Todd Arnold I’m perfectly happy with the PLH. Unfortunately no on TX. And thanks 🤙
Sorry its much harder to look around for threats when all you have is a fine focused beam, Surefire wins hands down and has much more useful light then a modlight or cloud….. you did a awesome review and I thank you so much! 👍🏻💪🏻
U should compare it to a malkoff hyper throw.
Late to the party but great video 👍🏽
Damn! Of course I just ordered a m600u. Though I did that based on the fact I read the 600u has better throw than the DF. But I’m kinda wishing I had gone modlite. Oh well.
MrAdvantage1 Well, the M600U is a good light and there’s always next time
NITEWALKER oh I know. Me, my bank account, and my ever expanding pile of semi used gear know all about “next time” 😂😂
MrAdvantage1 Lol you and me both!
Depends on intended use... for general use, I would still lean on the Surefire for better spill specially indoors CQB/search which majority these WMLs are going to be used for. Plus on the Surefire's proven track record...
The SF for sure indoors/CQB/close range. But further out the ML is superior. If haven't used one yet (PLHv2 or OKW), I highly recommend trying it out.
The ModLite's only beneficial use is on a long gun where you need the focal intensity to be in your optic window. Its spot is too concentrated to be of any use unless you like counting squirrels at night. I think Surefire needs to have more focus, especially on their weapon-mounted variants. Both of these appear to be the weapon-light versions. I'd like to see what the purpose-built handhelds perform like. Thank you for sharing.
@@DAV1979 That's kind of the reason to have competing manufacturers. I have no use for a Modlite variant because I don't need the throw and a more dispersed cone is beneficial to me. The Surefire series were developed in MOUT and LEO close to mid range. Too bright of a spot has a tendency for tunnel vision. Broadcasting your location with a searchlight beam at a longer range target, well, that's kind of silly, even when hunting hogs or the squirrels I joked about. I have a handheld light with a much tighter focus that I use to illuminate areas at distance in low light searches, like a warehouse or an open field. If you're actually engaging threats at distance, imo, nods and IR illuminators are a better option. Even if that threat is a squirrel. Evil bastards.
Good stuff bro! Have a quick question. getting ready to buy for the first time and I really appreciate all the info! My question is for my first purchase who and what would you recommend? looking to use for training but also would like to be able to share with my daughter,so I'm thinking to start: a pvs14 and later buy another with similar specs and bridge them so when shes with me we both have something? If you have a better idea please let me know! But we're sould i buy? And what sould i be looking 4? Would like wp but open to anything good. My price point is for a pvs-14 I'd like to spend around 3500 give or take a couple bucks. And for duals if I can, keep it under 6 grand if thats possible? Lol. Anyway thanks bro and sorry for the long message
In that price you can get a thin filmed white or green phosphor with good specs of an unfilmed white phosphor with good specs but a spot blemish in the zone 3 area of the tube. For thin filmed, take a look at TNVC, JRH Enterprises, and N-Vision. The unfilmed WP with the spot is offered by N-Vision. Personally, I’d go with the best performing tube which would be the spot blemish from N-Vision. There is a huge back up on tubes with almost everyone so you may not find anything in stock.
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION thanks bro! I really appreciate it! Also is there a set of duals that spit into 2 units? If so some suggestions but thanks again I can't wait to get a tube or tubes lol 🤘
@@chrisleskanic4484 That would be the Mod-3. There are two versions. One with no gain control and another with gain control. If they’ll be split apart often and used as monoculars, the gain control version is better, but it’s a little heavier. TNVC and Night Goggles are the only sources I mentioned who sell that housing.
@@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION thanks for the info brother! Let you know what I can get my hands on! And hopefully soon🤙 just sucks waited so long to have the extra funds to get something, and now it's like gotta wait even longer 😠😡🤬🤯🤣😂🤣
Which would be better for 300blackout hog hunting?
Which one of these lights would you guys pick for an Alaskan anti bear shotgun? I'm thinking Surefire?
I’d go with the Modlite for the extra reach and it’s flood is still usable.
Do you think not being able to use a couple of CR123A’s is a disadvantage?
Mike B I thought it could be initially but after using them the rechargeable batteries work great plus more power. If it’s a concern I’d keep a spare or two fully charged on your kit. If you want 123’s, honestly I preferred the output of the M600V white light compared to the DF. Better hotspot
I don't know anyone who isn't disappointed in the DF offering. The throw is abysmal. I put mine on a dedicated entry gun that will likely never see use past 25 yards. Team guys have REINs for every gun on the way.
Nate Rivera I’ll definitely have to check one out
Is this the m600df or the m640df?
600
So pissed I bought the M600DF
your wife's a good sport
She sure is 👍
I'm in the market for a "carry / home defense" light like these, and my research tells me the choices are:
-Surefire if you want good quality control, good switch actuation, aesthetics and physical design both in durability and overall size.
-Modlite if you want the next gen in performance, but the quality control is iffy, switch actuation is iffy and not that durable, battery performance can be considered garbage and it even drains when not in use. It's an young product in so many ways.
Surefire is surely designed and great for home defense. Modlite is great for duty use. Ofc either is fine i'm sure
