  • Hi guys!
So, this week I am training with Richard who is a blue belt at my gym. He is 5’8 & 145 lbs which is very close to my size! It was highly requested that I go against a male that was my height and weight. Richard is the lightest male at our gym, so this is as close as it gets! I hope you guys enjoy it! Make sure you leave comments below on other BJJ content you would like to see from me! 😊
    Xoxo,

I miss Jiu Jitsu I myself was or is a blue belt haven't been to class in years so I don't know if I'm still considered blue only reason i stopped was cause I felt like I was taking advantage of living with my parents kindness & money and needed to get my own job & place to live did Jiu Jitsu for 7 years I still dream about it or think about it occasionally watch videos like this reminding me of how much i miss simple things like being aware of the other groups around as we roll not trying to disturb them at the same time of my partner 🤣 its nice to see someone with that fire burning inside just to learn more & improve. Thanks for this.

Hello, you're doing so great !
I'm curious about your use of physical strenght.
I was wondering, is it easier when you fight with a same weigh guy for you than heavier guy (logically yes) ? How do you adapt your technique ? Do you use more physical strenght to get a submission when you oppose someone like him than usual ? What about the grapevine, does it require strenght/technique depending on the opponent ? And why you BJJ practitioners, you rarely grip the wrist to secure the pin ? That baffles me.
Sorry if it is too many questions (and sorry for my english, it might be a bit strange but I'm French actually). I'm not a practitioner but I quite like to watch some combat sometimes, I'm also a writer and knowing more about that could be useful to be faithfull in some action scenes.
Thank you so much for your kind reply !

Love the narration. I am thinking of making more writing pieces around wrestling and/or Jiu Jitsu, as they are becoming my two favourite martial arts to watch. I have a softer spot for grappling than I do for punching and kicking. Grappling feels more safer to do than punching, kicking, or swinging bamboo swords, though injuries can and will still occur, just like every other martial art. Still, I thank you for this, and I might watch some more of your content.

ROFL! As a bluebelt myself I was kindof getting depressed until I clicked the "about". Very awesome video and skillset on display! I have a background in lifting, and I approached BJJ as I've approached other combatives, and strength matters, but it doesn't matter nearly as much as I thought it would. I remember first time someone I outweighed by 50# (and probably lift 2-3x what they do on various lifts) absolutely demolished me. I tried it again with the same results. And again. It was depressing as they were a new guy to my gym and it was always in no-gi. I finally asked how long he had been fighting BJJ and he said he'd done semi-pro level MMA for 10-12 years, heavy grappling focus. You really just cannot make up for skillset with anything in this game. This video underscores that once again! Props!

Hi Fallon, Girls are generally more flexible compared to guys, but how important is flexibility in Gi/No-Gi? or is it not that much relevant?

    • @FallonFratone
      @FallonFratone  Год назад +7

Hi!👋🏻 so, flexibility definitely has its strengths in BJJ. It’s easier for me to do certain positions because of my flexibility. For example, let’s say someone has mount on me. I can throw my legs over their body and escape fairly easy compared to someone who isn’t flexible. So, my flexibility helps my BJJ game in a lot of ways. But, you don’t have to be flexible to be good, some people are super strong or quick and that’s their strength instead. Everyone has their own game which is why BJJ is so cool!

I've rolled with a lot of women who beat me. Even if being physically stronger, I focus more on technique instead of trying to power my way through. It helps me to learn to be better at my game.
Though there were a couple girls that were very strong and skilled who got me.
The creator of this video is actually skilled on a technical level. There's nothing wrong with her filming this. The blue belt is trying to learn, and it's very common in a gym/academy to have rolls like this. That's the beauty of BJJ. A "smaller/ weaker" opponent actually does have a chance if we're just talking grappling.
These are training partners. You go into rolls with the intent to learn. It's not about beating your opponent as the top priority. That's what you don't understand. Rolling in your gym is about teamwork, comradery, building trust, having fun, learning, discipline, & fitness.
If you train and don't understand this, then whomever is teaching you isn't doing a good job or you aren't paying attention.
Last, full disclosure, in my opinion women have a slight advantage in one aspect during a bjj roll vs guys, particularly in no gi for one reason. Us guys in general will be very cognizant about not putting pressure on women's breasts with our arms & hands. Things I would do while rolling with other males aren't done in the same manner with female training partners.
Other than that, the focus should usually be on technique over pure strength, then applying pressure once dialed in.

Hi! 👋🏻 I love when I get BJJ practitioners on my channel! 🥋💪🏻 everyone goes through it, so don’t worry. As a white and blue belt your defense will progress tremendously and that’s from always being attacked by higher belts and that’s a good thing! Just focus on what the higher belts are doing to you, so you can start understanding offense better. Then you’ll know how to defend and attack positions eventually. Just keep it up, I promise you will get there! Focus on a handful of attacks that you are good at and perfect them!

    • @StanleyPinchak

@@vichaon Does your gym offer any beginner / fundamental classes? It can be helpful to see the basics again and again. Ideally, you should be getting the opportunity to work your techniques on a mix of people, including a decent percentage who are less skilled than you.
If neither of these are an option, I suggest that you start focusing on a particular position or area that is difficult for you and stick with improving it for a month or two at a time as your primary focus. Ask your coach or more advanced partners for tips on these weak spots. If you start to notice your partners beating you in specific patterns, ask them after the roll about what mistake you made and what you might do to improve it.
I started to experiment with butterfly guard as a baby blue belt and it took a good solid month and a half of getting smashed before I could play it with enough success to compliment and not detract from the half guard game I predominantly relied upon at the time.
I highly recommend position specific sparring with designated stop and reset criteria. E.g. sweep pass, or submit from a particular guard, or submit or escape from back control. This way you can get a bunch of reps in and clean up weak areas. See if your coach is willing to run a practice like this. If not, you could ask your partner before a roll or at open mat.
Video instructionals and youtube may be beneficial at your level, but I would do so with a focus on a specific technique / position / problem area. Then find a partner who can watch the same video and drill it at open mat. Binge watching a smorgasbord of techniques will not be helpful. Rewatching a technique similar or identical to a move you are working on is helpful.
If your finances are able to support it, you may consider a private lesson, but if you do, come with an idea on what you want to work on.
